ArPharazonV: nice
FarmerMaggotV: yes, it is ain't it :-P
MyCantalopeH8tsU: Im confused
MyCantalopeH8tsU: the last one of these Ive been to was back when everyone still had to meet on b.net
FarmerMaggotV: ah
MyCantalopeH8tsU: Im Dior-(V) btw
FarmerMaggotV: the bridge is a fairly new thing -> I wrote it so people on IRC, Battle.net, AIM, and SigmaChat can talk to each other
MyCantalopeH8tsU: wow... thats a lot of codec work
FarmerMaggotV: hm, not codec, protocol
MyCantalopeH8tsU: that would make more sense
ArPharazonV: Aiya, Dior
FarmerMaggotV: I was lucky enough that there were libraries to do AIM and IRC
ArPharazonV: bnet is quite a while ago...
FarmerMaggotV: so all I had to write my own for was Bnet and IRC
MyCantalopeH8tsU: aye that it is
MyCantalopeH8tsU: its been well over a year
FarmerMaggotV: it seems it's 5:08
ArPharazonV: well over a year, eh?
MyCantalopeH8tsU: yep
MyCantalopeH8tsU: to both
FarmerMaggotV: heh
FarmerMaggotV: *wonders where Varda is*
ArPharazonV: chances are I wasn't even a member yet when you were here the last time :-)
MyCantalopeH8tsU: no you werent
FarmerMaggotV: I *might* have been
MyCantalopeH8tsU: man, I remember these back when BW was brand new
FarmerMaggotV: I've been around a while, at least it seems
ArPharazonV: in a few months, I'll reach my 1.5-year-anniversary
ArPharazonV: joined on the Guild-anniversary in 2003, fourth of October
MyCantalopeH8tsU: lol, I also remember the chrsis that was D1v1.8 patch upgrade
FarmerMaggotV: I can't remember stuff like that :-P
MyCantalopeH8tsU: I dont remember that either
FarmerMaggotV: I got D1 back in 98, I was like 10 :-P
MyCantalopeH8tsU: lets see, it has to have been atleast over 3 years now I guess
MyCantalopeH8tsU: yep
Eonwe Valar has entered the room.
FarmerMaggotV: what a great game to give a 10 year old
FarmerMaggotV: :-P
ArPharazonV: Aiya
GilraenV has entered the room.
Arwen V1 has entered the room.
ArPharazonV: Aiya

MyCantalopeH8tsU: hello Eonwe
FarmerMaggotV: hm, brb, getting on guild name
FarmerMaggotV has left the room.
FarmerMaggotV has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar: Greetings Cantalope. Pardon if I don't recognize the name. Under which would I know you, Cantalope?
ArPharazonV: Aiyata
AlatarValar2 has entered the room.
ArPharazonV: Aiya
AlatarValar2: Aiya
MyCantalopeH8tsU: Dior
Orodreth V has entered the room.
ArPharazonV: oh, just in case you were planning on starting with the meeting.. I've got a small bit of member news
Eonwe Valar: ok, will make a note of it Phar
ArPharazonV: ok
Eonwe Valar: One sec while I jot some stuff down. I will be chairing the meeting tonight.
Orodreth V: In case any of you were wondering why I'm madly waving a knife around...
Eonwe Valar: Not really, figured it was just because you're Orodreth :}
ArPharazonV: no, what you do and who you kill in your spare time isn't really our business :-)
Orodreth V: I'm writing a boring paper on Archimdes with not enough information.
ArPharazonV: hey, new MSN version
Orodreth V: Archimedes*
GilraenV: Gwai is, as usual, lol, at work. he'll be home in about 2 hours
Orodreth V: ..ya'll are wonder friends, you know that?
ArPharazonV: here's a word for your paper
ArPharazonV: "Eureka"
GilraenV: ouch, Orod
MyCantalopeH8tsU: I live in Eureka
ArPharazonV: really?
MyCantalopeH8tsU: yeah
MyCantalopeH8tsU: well used to
ArPharazonV: didn't know it was a city/village
MyCantalopeH8tsU: Missouri
FarmerMaggotV: oh, btw: I was looking into MSN support for the bridge, it simply isn't worth the effort (I could elaborate, but it's a bit longish)
Orodreth V: Anyone who has a knack for making paragraphs longer and is bored..lemme know. :-P
ArPharazonV: add a few useless words
ArPharazonV: like... lemme check the English terms...
MyCantalopeH8tsU: what do you need to know
Eonwe Valar: Meeting starting momentarily. Please turn off text highlighting.
ArPharazonV: adjectives, I think they're called
ArPharazonV: add lots and lots of useless adjectives
FarmerMaggotV: and adverbs
MyCantalopeH8tsU has left the room.
ArPharazonV: or just fancy words
Eonwe Valar: OK, time to begin.
ArPharazonV: ok
top

Eonwe Valar: Elen Sila Lumenn Omentielvo.
Eonwe Valar: Memberships News:
Eonwe Valar: Varda is wrapping up the Inactivity Drop, and there are a few who have not responded yet. They are in danger of being swept.
Eonwe Valar: A full list can be found on the web page.
Eonwe Valar: The News page, to be more specific.
Eonwe Valar: Doesn't look like any of you made the list :}
AlatarValar2: 8-)
Menelvagor Valar has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar: Surprisingly, we have just as many TOlkien-Only members in danger of a sweep
Eonwe Valar: Pharazon, you had Member News?
ArPharazonV: aye
ArPharazonV: I've got a new email-address
ArPharazonV: will be using it for all Guild-business, and probably all WoW-business as well
ArPharazonV: arpharazonv@gmail.com
ArPharazonV: starting with the transcript which I'll be sending tonight
Eonwe Valar: WoW business counts as Guild business :}
ArPharazonV: European WoW business, I mean...
ArPharazonV: I've got a Forsaken main in mind as well
Eonwe Valar: ah, ok
ArPharazonV: in fact, I've written up her background this very week
ArPharazonV: and I swear I'll be making my next rp-post next week :-)
Eonwe Valar: hehe
ArPharazonV: still don't have a Guild for that Main, though
ArPharazonV: I wrote that history for an application to a Guild I liked
HeruRasa has entered the room.
HeruRasa: Aiya
Eonwe Valar: Don't forget about us :}
ArPharazonV: but the Guild has had a complete make-over, and doesn't readily appeal to what I want with this character anymore
ArPharazonV: so my Nemesys Windrunner is Guildless once more :-)
ArPharazonV: but don't worry
ArPharazonV: as soon as I can play on a US-server
ArPharazonV: I'll be creating my other main in Lothar
Eonwe Valar: Hope to see you there then :}
ArPharazonV: like I'd ever forget about you guys ;-)
Menelvagor Valar: we can play together in the meantime Phar :-)
ArPharazonV: aye
ArPharazonV: what server you playing on?
Eonwe Valar: Any othe rMember News?
Menelvagor Valar: I'll have to check lol
Eonwe Valar: Move that to private chat please :}
ArPharazonV: we'll continue this in IM
ArPharazonV: aye
Eonwe Valar: Thanks
VardaValar1 has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Thanks, Menelvagor :-)
ArPharazonV: no other Member News from me... well, Isildur just made himself known in the Bnet-channel
VardaValar1: Aiya
ArPharazonV: Aiya
Eonwe Valar: OK, so that makes two people who've made themselves visible today.
ArPharazonV: You'll be receiving my transcript from another adress today, Varda
Eonwe Valar: Dior, who came in as Cantelope, and Isildur
ArPharazonV: somebody on the War3 forums was handing out g-mail invites, I grabbed one
VardaValar1: Great, Phar!
ArPharazonV: so arpharazonv@gmail.com is my new Guild-email
VardaValar1: Dior still interested?
FarmerMaggotV: off to eat! :-)
Menelvagor Valar: on Argent Dawn (RP)
ArPharazonV: Argent Dawn? Cool! that was the one I had in mind for Nemesys
Eonwe Valar: Didn't get a chance to find out.
Menelvagor Valar: good
ArPharazonV: is also where that other guild is playing, perhaps I'll apply to them later in time...
Eonwe Valar: PM, guys :}
GilraenV: (If anyone wants a gmail invit, I have over 100 between my gmail accounts)
Eonwe Valar: Did anyone in here bfore me hear whether Dior was still interested in the Guild?
Eonwe Valar: Guess Not.
Eonwe Valar: Last call for member news.
Eonwe Valar: Once
VardaValar1: Did you
VardaValar1: go over the Sweep news?
Eonwe Valar: Aye
Eonwe Valar: Mentioned it was wrapping up, and that a list of those in danger is on the News Page. Anythign you want to add to that?
VardaValar1: Most of those people had an email problem and no AIM
VardaValar1: Just need a way to contact
VardaValar1: They can all rejoin, none in trouble
Musics4Me2: Alatar (SigmaChat): You received my email msg with Mahtan's address, Varda?
VardaValar1: Yes, thank you :-)
VardaValar1: I emailed him
Eonwe Valar: Anything else?
Eonwe Valar: Going Twice.
ArPharazonV: ... nope, can't think of any

Eonwe Valar: On to Web News:
Eonwe Valar: Encyclopedia:
Eonwe Valar: Events page is up and working.
Eonwe Valar: List of Major ages with links to articles pertaining to Events.
AlatarValar2 has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: ALso a new article "Types of Elves" and
Eonwe Valar: an unpdated one, Trolls.
Eonwe Valar: Varda, would you like to say anything about these?
Eonwe Valar: *unpdated=updated
VardaValar1: Events page also has three new sections
VardaValar1: Marriages, Births, Deaths of War of the Ring notables
VardaValar1: Each is a separate page
VardaValar1: Doing them in response to some emails I've had for info
VardaValar1: Also Time Changes between 3rd and 4th Ages
VardaValar1: Links to the Chronology of the Silmarillion
VardaValar1: and three artist pages
VardaValar1: Garland, Howe, Nasmith
VardaValar1: Links to all are on the News
AlatarValar2 has entered the room.
VardaValar1: I'm done
Eonwe Valar: Thanks Varda.
Eonwe Valar: Menelvagor, your floor.
Menelvagor Valar: thanks
Menelvagor Valar: I have added a new bit of humor to the humor text page
Menelvagor Valar: http://valarguild.org/menelvagor/humortext.html#toughguide
Menelvagor Valar: Pharazon came to me with it when one of his friends bought "The tough guide to Fantasy Land"
Musics4Me2: Varda (SigmaChat): Aiya
ArPharazonV: wow, how did you get all those other quotes?
ArPharazonV: btw, I bought it myself afterwards :-)
Menelvagor Valar: in itself, it has not much to do with Tolkien itself, but on the back with the honoraries (or whatever they are called) were a couple of funny Tolkien quotes
Menelvagor Valar: so, I thought to add a couple od what LotR characters might say
Menelvagor Valar: for a quick example:
Menelvagor Valar: Nazgûl: 'Would have saved a lot of time locating the Shire.'
Menelvagor Valar: Frodo: 'You could've given me that before I got stuck in Emyn Muil and having to hook up with Gollum to get out.'
Menelvagor Valar: and some more
Menelvagor Valar: any suggestions / funny quotes are of course welcome :-)
Menelvagor Valar: and that's it :-)
Eonwe Valar: Thanks Menelvagor.
Eonwe Valar: Any other Web News?
VardaValar1: Encyc:
VardaValar1: Still updating the navigation
VardaValar1: Keep sidetracking with articles. heh
VardaValar1: I'm done
Eonwe Valar: Thanks.
Eonwe Valar: Web News Going Once.
Eonwe Valar: Twice.

Eonwe Valar: Gaming News:
Eonwe Valar: If I can base anything on earlier chat, I'd say WoW is retail in Europe now :}
Menelvagor Valar: aye
Eonwe Valar: Blizzard announced on it's US Community page it'd be in Stores on the 11th.
ArPharazonV: aye... haven't actually acquired it yet, though, made the mistake of pre-ordering in the last week, so it would have been faster to just buy it in the stores:-D
Menelvagor Valar: although setting up an account for pre-paid gamecards is as yet unavaiable
FallenGlory has entered the room.
Menelvagor Valar: a solution should be made by tomorrow
Eonwe Valar: Warning Menel- That's what they said about US Gamecards :}
Menelvagor Valar: (of course, I wouldn't wait for that, and got my dad to use his cc to set up my account :-))
Eonwe Valar: Hopefully this means it won't be long before they provide that solution by which the US Valar Guild members can be joined by our friends in Europe on Lothar.
HeruRasa: I used my ATM card, same as credit card in how it works, but more like a self-writing check.
ArPharazonV: aye, and Calion can finally join your ranks :-)
Menelvagor Valar: and Estarion :-)
Menelvagor Valar: which comes to mind a question:
Eonwe Valar: Go ahead Menelvagor.
Menelvagor Valar: Is it mandatory to have the same gender in WoW as your gender in the Guild / irl?
VardaValar1: No more so than in Diablo :-)
HeruRasa: Arathorn hopes not :-)
ArPharazonV: aye, Harana...
Menelvagor Valar: ah, of course :-)
Eonwe Valar: You know, I never really considered making that a requirement :}
VardaValar1: Would have knocked me out of most of Diablo
ArPharazonV: don't worry, haven't really thought about making female characters... except for Nemesys, of course
HeruRasa: Diablo was different, in WoW all chat types have a choice
Menelvagor Valar: asking because for some odd reason, I generally have more female chars than male :-)
VardaValar1: You prefer the scenery :-)
HeruRasa: char types *
ArPharazonV: ah, there is that to consider
Eonwe Valar: As long as new members are honest about which gender they are (not their characters) so they can choose a Guild name accordingly, I see no reason to make it mandantory.
VardaValar1: They don't seem to have any advantage in WoW though
ArPharazonV: whose behind you'll be staring at during the game
ArPharazonV: had better be a pretty one
Menelvagor Valar: I'd rather stare at the front, but that is a personal preference :-P
ArPharazonV: I'm not saying how I'd like it, Menel, just how it is :-)
ArPharazonV: or can you play from front-view as well?
Menelvagor Valar: which is completely doable, since you can set your own camera views
Eonwe Valar: There is no advantage gamewise of choosing male/female over the other. Simply an aesthetic one.
Eonwe Valar: If that.
VardaValar1: It might work better with your name for a particular gender, otherwise no big deal
Eonwe Valar: I personally prefer to choose my own gender because I like to be represented by a guy, which is what I am :}
HeruRasa: WoW can be played first or 3rd person view, and zoom back and forth
Menelvagor Valar: well, I generally have female-like names for females
Menelvagor Valar: such as Ondolinde
Menelvagor Valar: or Crissaegrim for a rogue
Menelvagor Valar: (which can go both ways btw :-))
VardaValar1: Any more Gaming news, Eonwe?
GilraenV: I suppose it just depends on your mood when making the character. My chars on Gwai's account ar all female so far, and he has chars of both genders
Eonwe Valar: Aye
ArPharazonV: I'll be playing male with most of my characters, except for one which I have in mind mainly in admirance for Sylvanas...
ArPharazonV: but I have no doubt other females will come in time
Eonwe Valar: We all understand about char and gender now?
Menelvagor Valar: yes
Menelvagor Valar: I would like to make an official request....
ArPharazonV: something ending with 'grim' seems more like a male name to me, btw...
Eonwe Valar: I assume it's involved in gaming news?
Menelvagor Valar: that everyone sends their current characters and classes (preferrably Lothar realm, but others can do as well) to my email, so I can make an up-to-date list on who plays what
Menelvagor Valar: and so that people can see what classes might be needed
Aerandir V: i must relocate to another comp
Menelvagor Valar: sends to me that is :-)
Aerandir V has left the room.
ArPharazonV: my Lothar-character will be a Rogue, that's for sure
ArPharazonV: a throwing-dagger-wielding Rogue :-)
VardaValar1: Or send the email to me and I will forward to Menel
Menelvagor Valar: well, I'm asking this, because there could be a shortage on priests or mages
Eonwe Valar: Ok everyone, send your Character in to Menelvagor. Inundate his e-mail :}
VardaValar1: You can also put the info on the Forum
Eonwe Valar: We have 2 mages I know of :}
Menelvagor Valar: e.pas@home.nl
Eonwe Valar: *Chracter info to
ArPharazonV: hmm.... it occurs to me that both my mains are Rogues... oh well
Eonwe Valar: On with Gaming News:
ArPharazonV: one is Alliance and male, the other's Horde and female... so they'll be different experiences anyway...
ArPharazonV: but go ahead
Eonwe Valar: We have 30 odd character members, which means probably around 15-20 actual members in the WoW branch.
Eonwe Valar: We've got plenty to start getting together groups of Guild members for quests.
Eonwe Valar: Discussions on the message board have been related to this in some fashion, so I have put this off a bit to hear what those participating had to say
Eonwe Valar: I think I have a pretty good idea where most of those contributing stand now.
AlatarValar2: :-X
Eonwe Valar: Some have spoken saying we need leaders in groups, and some have spoken against it, both citing experiences they've had.
Aerandir V has entered the room.
Aerandir V: back
Aerandir V: scrolling
ArPharazonV: Aiyata
VardaValar1: So play it by ear?
ArPharazonV: scrolling? you just entered!
FarmerMaggotV: I was wondering the same Phar ;-)
Eonwe Valar: Reading both, those who cite bad experiences tend to be citing leaders who seem to not be doing their job well, and I can only imagine "lording it" over the team members.
Aerandir V: ok...Ill be scrolling
Eonwe Valar: This of course is not what a leader should be doing.
Eonwe Valar: Part of the job of a leader is to make sure everyone in the group is on the same page.
Eonwe Valar: His/her ob is to make sure everything goes smoothly, and when necessary actually make decisions.
Menelvagor Valar: which I think we in Valar will have little problems with :-)
Eonwe Valar: ob-job
Eonwe Valar: This is not so much needed in everyday circumstances, like we on some regular day decide to get together for a few quests.
Eonwe Valar: If the group is made of of long-time friends, it may even seem unnecessary
Eonwe Valar: However, we cannot assume that everyone who becomes a member of the Valar Guild will automatically know exactly how we do things in any game.
HeruRasa: Difficult instances, one which shows brown or red text requires communication, agreed upon tactics and someone who coordinates/leads the tactics.
Eonwe Valar: We can't assume everyone is on the same level of experience, and doing so only results in anger when someone goes off doing something else when what they should've done was "common sense."
AlatarValar2: Aye, but some things are good for a leader to do. For example, the leader could choose which mob to pull. But they might not be the best class to pull. WoW game mechanics make this easy. Leader selects target, puller selects leader
AlatarValar2: then presses "F" to get his target.
AlatarValar2: However, this could not be understood unless communicated.
AlatarValar2: And having a group where everyone and anyone pulls whenever they feel like a fight, is a short-lived group.
AlatarValar2: (just an example)
VardaValar1: When some guildies and I were grouping, we had an easy time getting across what we needed to do and doing it. Took out Van Cleef pretty nicely
Eonwe Valar: Having one person who everyone knows is going to make decisions when they arise saves on anyone crying foul.
AlatarValar2: Van Cleef <sigh> I am on 4 servers, with some in their upper 20s, I have STILL not done that quest. I just can't find a group that stays together long enough.
AlatarValar2: I think I shall just buy Van Cleef's head on eBay. I'm sure it's there. :-D
ArPharazonV: (just saved the transcript, just in case my pc goes down)
Eonwe Valar: That's not to say discussion isn't encouraged and suggestions can't be made, but that when the talk is over, we know exactly what's going to happen.
VardaValar1: Join us, Alatar :-)
Orodreth V: Er, is anyone here familiar with the MLA style guidelines?
HeruRasa: People can take turns being leader, it is part of the fun. But WoW is a game for single play and group play. For me one of the most fun things to do is pull off a well coordinated group effort in beating a tough quest due to playg
AlatarValar2: Agreed
AlatarValar2: That is also a great pleasure of mine.
AlatarValar2: A small well played team doing what others say cannot be done by such a small team :-)
FarmerMaggotV: I am somewhat oro
AlatarValar2: On the other hand, I am discovering that a warlock can do quests SOLO when they are orange in his journal. It's really completely bizarre. With my warlock on Elune, I don't even bother to attack something unless it's +2 or +3 me.
AlatarValar2: Seriously. Even con bores the warlock. :-)
Eonwe Valar: As has been said, having a leader in tough instances and later on in raids and on Battlegrounds (raids and BG will be discussed later) helps to cut confusion nad makes playing quicker.
HeruRasa: I can do orange ones too, but no class can do an orange elite quest solo
Eonwe Valar: Guys, I know I'm a bit long winded, but I promise I'm getting to the point :}
AlatarValar2: No, but he can do yellow elite quests solo, depending on the quest. My paladin blows hard to do GREEN elite quests by himself.
AlatarValar2: In fact, he cannot :-)
VardaValar1: Being familiar with each other's play styles helps a lot too. Almost automatically set into normal roles
AlatarValar2: Agreed, Varda. That's very very true. It is one of the GREAT advantages to guild groups.
AlatarValar2: People get used to each other.
Eonwe Valar: Anyway, when we group together, it would certainly help us to have a designated leader.
VardaValar1: I just point at Auros when he's around ;-)
HeruRasa: BTW, group leaders are allowed to listen too :-)
Eonwe Valar: Group together for Guild questing, that is
ArPharazonV: I don't think any of you knows my game-style... heck, even I don't know
Menelvagor Valar: will come in time, Phar :-)
AlatarValar2: My style is simple. I die with grace, if I die first, and I die with courage, if I am the last man standing.
AlatarValar2: ;-)
ArPharazonV: so as long as you die, you're ok :-)
HeruRasa: /em hates to die at all :-)
Eonwe Valar: Every Weekend at least once a week (Friday, to be exact).
ArPharazonV: hmm.... I wonder... what would WoW have been like as a Single-player game
Eonwe Valar: I would like to set up a Guild gathering in the Cathedral of the Light in Stormwind.
ArPharazonV: well, Single-Player originally, but able to play the same world in Multiplayer too... like Diablo-series
VardaValar1: (Good spot for finding all the types of NPC's you want too, where Eonwe said)
ArPharazonV: I should just make a Horde character in Lothar and raid Stormwind just as you're gathering ;-)
Menelvagor Valar: the guards there would kill you before you get far
ArPharazonV: probably, aye
Eonwe Valar: It's getting hard competing with so many voices, guys.
ArPharazonV: but it depends with how many we are :-)
Menelvagor Valar: most minor settlements have a bunch of lvl 62 guards around them
ArPharazonV: :-X
Menelvagor Valar: and I reckon Stormwind has even higher
Eonwe Valar: From Stormwind, we can break into groups of 5 or so to complete quest sets
Eonwe Valar: or instances
Eonwe Valar: Such as working through the entire Redridge quests, or just running over to complete Blackfathom Deeps.
ArPharazonV: small question: did any of you order the Collectors Edition?
Eonwe Valar: Phar, that can wait
ArPharazonV: ok
Eonwe Valar: Leaders for the groups will be randomly chosen useing the Random command, barring those who had already been a leader for a group until everyone gets a chance to be a leader.
Eonwe Valar: This will be a learning experience for everyone.
Eonwe Valar: On top of making sure everything goes smoothly, these leaders will be asked to type something up for either the Forum, or a Web page for weekly questing Reports Should our WoW wabmsters be interested in setting one up.
Eonwe Valar: *webmasters
Menelvagor Valar: sure, should be no prob
VardaValar1: I could put it on the News too :-)
Eonwe Valar: These reports don't need to be long and drawn out.
Eonwe Valar: The minimum I ask is for Names/classes /levels of people in group (levels at the start of the questing,.. levels after not terribly important), where you quested.
Eonwe Valar: Approximately which quests were completed (for example, if you completed the entire Redridge set, just saying "All Redridge Quests" is fine)
Eonwe Valar: And a short summary on how you all did.
Eonwe Valar: If you're a bit of a writer and like to be creative, you can also make a version of this for the WoW RP section. I challenge you to add a Tolkien theme :}
Menelvagor Valar: suggestion
Arwen V1 has left the room.
Menelvagor Valar: possibly tactics used
Eonwe Valar: One sec Menelvagor, I'm almost done.
Eonwe Valar: To facilitate our ability to gather together, Varda has suggested that we gather for a Gryphon run, all of use gathering together to get several of the gryphons needed for daily travel (such as the Menethil Gryphon).
Eonwe Valar: Other Gryphons could be added, such as the one at Refuge Point, or the one at Theramore. This event is scheduled for next weekend.
Eonwe Valar: Menelvagor, go ahead.
Menelvagor Valar: suggestion for that quest write-up thingy could be what tactics were used
Menelvagor Valar: perhaps to be used another time by a different group
Eonwe Valar: Aye, I hope that's part of the summary given.
AlatarValar2: comment on that?
Menelvagor Valar: other than that, I have nothing to add on this topic
VardaValar1: Perhaps some of us could start tonight, locating gryphons and getting set up to do escort duty for next weekend?
VardaValar1: And guide duty : )
Eonwe Valar: We could. Anyone interested in doing that?
AlatarValar2: (I was waiting to be recognized. Should I go ahead with my comment?)
Eonwe Valar: Pardon. Go ahead Alatar.
Menelvagor Valar: Alatar had a comment about my suggestion, perhaps we should let him speak up :-)
HeruRasa: I can lead people to Gadgetzan, that is a fun death-run for low leverl toons :-)
AlatarValar2: There are some in the guild - I disagree with this position personally, quite ardently - who feel that information gleaned from sources outside of the game itself is cheating. Be prepared for an argument if our quest reports appear
AlatarValar2: to be a walkthrough or guide to the quest.
Menelvagor Valar: good point
AlatarValar2: *I* would not criticize such a thing.
AlatarValar2: But others will, vigorously.
AlatarValar2: That is my comment.
ArPharazonV: I wouldn't criticize it... but I doubt I'd use it either
Menelvagor Valar: is it forbidden by Bliz?
Eonwe Valar: If someone goes that into detail, they certainly have a darn good memory, becuase I hope the leader isn't standing around for several minutes jotting all this stuff down while the group wonders what's going on.
AlatarValar2: No. It is an ethical position by the members who feel this.
ArPharazonV: I know I would personally prefer to find things out for myself, but I know there are many who do not share this preference, and I don't blame them
Menelvagor Valar: well, those members do not need to read the quest report
HeruRasa: If WoW is anything like EQ, and I think it will be, it won't be long before walk-thrus exist for all instances
AlatarValar2: They object to its existence.
GilraenV: sometimes it's fun to wander around looking for x or y location... but sometimes it's darned annoying
ArPharazonV: probably in gamefaqs.com :-)
Menelvagor Valar: and I could also make details a separate part of the report if nwwsws
Menelvagor Valar: needed*
AlatarValar2: Anyway, for what it is worth - I would appreciate knowing the tatics used :-)
Menelvagor Valar: allakhazam.com as well :-)
ArPharazonV: http://www.gamefaqs.com/computer/doswin/game/534914.html :-)
AlatarValar2: Hmm. I suddenly shifted back to red text. Apologies. (Spanks AIM)
ArPharazonV: expect this page to fill up considerely in time
Menelvagor Valar: I can always draw on other sources for back-up or storage purposes
AlatarValar2: The dinner bell is rung in the House of Alatar, friends. I must go, or wrisk the wrath of She Who Has Prepared It.
Eonwe Valar: A Summary should be that: a summary. That being said, while there there is no limit as to how much to write, I certain want more than 3 sentences.
AlatarValar2: Namarie! :-)
ArPharazonV: Namarie
AlatarValar2 has left the room.
ArPharazonV: is it ok to ask my question yet?
Eonwe Valar: I'm more interested in how the team did than in how many monsters there are in the dungeon.
Aerandir V has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: Pharazon, your floor.
ArPharazonV: ok
ArPharazonV: first question: did any of you order/buy the Collector's Edition of WoW?
HeruRasa: brb on another comp
Eonwe Valar: I did. why?
HeruRasa has left the room.
ArPharazonV: I was wondering about the extra cd of soundtracks
Eonwe Valar: It's WoW music.
ArPharazonV: they would be the soundtracks from the cinematics, right? not the background of the game itself?
Eonwe Valar: Both quite likely, or else there's be about 4 songs total.
ArPharazonV: for I am a big fan of the soundtracks from the cinematics, and the CE is sold out here, so I can't get my hands on the cd
ArPharazonV: how large are the files?
Eonwe Valar: I have no idea.
ArPharazonV: small enough to send over AIM or MSN or something?
ArPharazonV: I would really enjoy possessing them :-)
Eonwe Valar: I seriously doubt. But they're in CD format anyway.
ArPharazonV: usually music-files tend to be about 5 mb or something, which could be done over AIM
Eonwe Valar: I don't make it a habit of taking songs off cds for distribution.
ArPharazonV: aye, I understand that
Eonwe Valar: Anythign else Phar?
ArPharazonV: but I've been looking for the soundtracks for quite a while, so I thought I could give it a shot
ArPharazonV: hmm... no, don't think so
ArPharazonV: except that I'll be leaving soon
ArPharazonV: early day tomorrow
Eonwe Valar: BLizzard might eventually sell them on their online store, or you might find it on E-bay.
Menelvagor Valar: I've got something concerning the WoW page
Eonwe Valar: Before that, Menelvagor, I want to make sure there are no more questions or comments about what I said.
Eonwe Valar: Anyone?
HeruRasa has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar: OK, your floor Mene.
Eonwe Valar: *Menel
ArPharazonV: (Aiyata)
Menelvagor Valar: ok, here goes
Menelvagor Valar: I've been thinking about how to deal with the WoW member roster list
Menelvagor Valar: and I would like some input on the matter
VardaValar1: Forum and email?
Menelvagor Valar: I was thinking of categorising into 2 or 3 different sets
Menelvagor Valar: forum, email, in here :-)
VardaValar1: We need to know alts, and we need to be able to invite them to the guild on Sundays and other times
VardaValar1: aye, and in here :-)
Menelvagor Valar: that is what the earlier request was about
Menelvagor Valar: this is about the layout of the page :-)
Menelvagor Valar: I was thinking to categorise by level and or class first
Menelvagor Valar: so people can quickly see what classes being used and what levels they are
Menelvagor Valar: secondly
Menelvagor Valar: categorised by member
Menelvagor Valar: to see who plays what
Menelvagor Valar: (all categories will have all the info in the others, so it's more or less a database kinda thingy where it's easier to look up some of the info)
Menelvagor Valar: and thirdly, and possibly outside guild chars
Eonwe Valar: It might give the impression level and/or class is more important than the member
VardaValar1: Sure, because we like to play together even unofficially :-)
VardaValar1: Name is most important
Menelvagor Valar: on this last one I have to note that I have received some objections concerning encouraging disparation of the Guild
VardaValar1: We are starting guild events and they will have something to come to
Menelvagor Valar: ok
VardaValar1: Even preparing for events is fun :-)
HeruRasa: My personal opinion is that any info on characters outside of Valar is totally uneccesary and even counter-productive, but that's prolly just me
VardaValar1: Just names and server if we do outside at all
Menelvagor Valar: so, what I could do, is make a splash page like the one I did for the humor pages, and link to the actual data thingies
VardaValar1: Not needed on the guild page, as it is for the guild
Eonwe Valar: what do you mean, "encouraing disparation of the Guild?"
VardaValar1: You have a splash page for WoW already. Just need a link straight out from there
VardaValar1: dissipation in garblespeak
Menelvagor Valar: yep :-)
Menelvagor Valar: thanks Varda
Menelvagor Valar: well....
Menelvagor Valar: the thing is
Eonwe Valar: ok, not what it sounded like.
Menelvagor Valar: some people think Names are most important (which of course they are) and others (like me) would like to see quickly who plays what so we know who we can ask for quests at equal levels / class ranges
Menelvagor Valar: if you know what I mean
Eonwe Valar: The guild roster gives you that ability
VardaValar1: That is what the Guild box does in the game
HeruRasa: The guild tool in the game keeps a tally including levels, when last played, on-line status and where they campsed if off-line
VardaValar1: If we have a name, we can find the rest
Eonwe Valar: You can see levels, locations, classes, etc.
VardaValar1: No need to work yourself to death, Menel :-)
Eonwe Valar: I use it all the time to see where people are.
Menelvagor Valar: ah, didn't know that
Menelvagor Valar: nothing too hard to do I think :-)
Menelvagor Valar: but I didn't know that was there
VardaValar1: It is if you expect people to email it to you. Won't happen
Menelvagor Valar: so I guess just a list of people playing what will do
HeruRasa: But your right Menel, we are lacking in priests :-)
VardaValar1: I have one :-)
Menelvagor Valar: general issue :-)
Menelvagor Valar: priests are generally no solo- ers
VardaValar1: Paladins and druids heal too
ArPharazonV: priests... priests... ah, too bad, my envisaged first priest is a Troll, so it'll be a European character... meh, perhaps later
Menelvagor Valar: true
VardaValar1: I can solo, if careful
Menelvagor Valar: but priests are full-heal
Eonwe Valar: As for outside chars, I tend to agree with Ulmo, except where we do not have a physical branch presence, such as Halflife. KNowing those names helps members get together there.
VardaValar1: Alliance for guild, because we can't talk to Horde or trade items
Menelvagor Valar: ok, so in essence, we agree on the following:
Menelvagor Valar: a list of names, each followed by the characters played on Lothar
VardaValar1: Tell readers we are on Lothar, Alliance
Musics4Me2: ArPharazonV (SigmaChat): but I gotta go... see you later
VardaValar1: Namarie Phar!
Menelvagor Valar: chars including level and class of course
Menelvagor Valar: Namarie
VardaValar1: don't need levels
ArPharazonV: will save now
VardaValar1: Type such as priest, alchemist helops
VardaValar1: helps
Menelvagor Valar: professions
Menelvagor Valar: good point, didn't think of that yet
VardaValar1: Class, profession, race
Menelvagor Valar: so, for example:
Menelvagor Valar: Eonwe:
GwaihirValar has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Human Paladin, Blacksmith, mining
(continuing using Menelvagor's transcript):
ArPharazonV (19:07:02): saved
VardaValar1 (19:07:02): Aiya Gwaihir :-)
VardaValar1 (19:07:05): Thanks
ArPharazonV (19:07:14): I'll enjoy reading the rest on the web next week
Menelvagor Valar (19:07:32): and of course, char name :-)
VardaValar1 (19:07:39): aye :-)
ArPharazonV (19:07:40): Varda, could you give me your mail again? don't have it yet for my new adress
VardaValar1 (19:07:52): Eonwe: Auros, human paladin, blacksmithing, mining
VardaValar1 (19:08:06): That tells us what he can do and what he needs, in general
Menelvagor Valar (19:08:08): few people have enchanting, do they?
VardaValar1 (19:08:13): I do :-)
Menelvagor Valar (19:08:20): good
HeruRasa (19:08:28): I enchant
Menelvagor Valar (19:08:33): is a rare profession as much as I gathered :-)
VardaValar1 (19:08:44): Ulmo is much better than I am at Enchant
HeruRasa (19:08:53): 38 gnome mage, 161 enchanter
VardaValar1 (19:09:01): Very nice :-)
GwaihirValar (19:09:11): hey :-)
VardaValar1 (19:09:14): When can a druid group port
VardaValar1 (19:09:22): Heya, Gwaihir
HeruRasa (19:09:23): ever?
FarmerMaggotV (19:09:26): Aiya Gwai
Menelvagor Valar (19:09:26): need to know figures of professions?
Eonwe Valar (19:09:27): Remember to e-mail your Guild Char info to Menelvagor, including these items and using your Guild name so he knows who you are :}
Eonwe Valar (19:09:52): Profession levels can change as often as actual levels. Sometimes more often
Menelvagor Valar (19:10:05): forum PM is good as well :-)
HeruRasa (19:10:08): daily for me :-)
Eonwe Valar (19:10:24): A person can look in game at the level and estimate from there what that person's primary profession levels are.
VardaValar1 (19:10:27): Don't even try to keep track of levels!
GwaihirValar (19:10:41): my Mage is an enchanter... at the beginning of theGolden Rod stage
GwaihirValar (19:11:06): however, in stead of keeping track of levels, keep track of 'rank'...(Journeyman/Expert/Artisan)
HeruRasa (19:11:13): I just runed the golden rod Eonwe gave me today :-)
VardaValar1 (19:11:13): On Lothar, Gwaihir?
GwaihirValar (19:11:17): ya
GwaihirValar (19:11:20): that's where my mage is ;-)
Eonwe Valar (19:11:29): That might be a good idea, Gwaihir.
Menelvagor Valar (19:11:34): well, I guess that is settled :-)
VardaValar1 (19:11:35): Cool
Eonwe Valar (19:11:37): The problem is, I don't remember what I am :}
Menelvagor Valar (19:11:40): I have no more :-)
GwaihirValar (19:11:44): its easy to find out
Eonwe Valar (19:11:51): I just know I hit 185 Blacksmithing :}
GwaihirValar (19:11:52): which trainer do you train at?
Eonwe Valar (19:12:08): the Artisan, so I assume that makes me Expert.
GwaihirValar (19:12:12): exactly
Menelvagor Valar (19:12:13): rank is a good idea, will keep that in mind :-)
GwaihirValar (19:12:17): you go the one step lower
GwaihirValar (19:12:39): so if you're training at the journeyman, you're basic... expert would make you journeyman... etc
Eonwe Valar (19:12:48): Also gets fun when you start talking about branchoff,.. for example, when I can I'm going weaponsmith.
GwaihirValar (19:12:50): ALSO we might wish to keep track fo specialization for later on....
GwaihirValar (19:13:31): Tribal/Elemental/Dragonscale Leatherworking, Weaponsmith/Swordsmith, Weaponsmith/Hammersmith, Armoursmith for Blacksmithing... Gnomish/Goblin for engineering
VardaValar1 (19:13:33): Annatar went armor, so we already have some variety
Eonwe Valar (19:13:58): Ok, if that's settled, anyone else with Gaming News?
Eonwe Valar (19:14:15): Going Once.
Eonwe Valar (19:14:35): Going Twice.
GwaihirValar (19:15:20): if anyone wants to have a char on a pvp server, I recommend Shattered Hand... its very good for lag and most of my chars are there :-)
top

Eonwe Valar (19:15:45): Any Questions/Comments about anything? Time to send me Tolkien topics as well.
Menelvagor Valar (19:15:56): I'm off to WoW
Menelvagor Valar (19:16:10): will keep being in here for saving chat purposes
Eonwe Valar (19:17:15): OK, no questions, no topic.. that means we talk about Balrog wings :}
VardaValar1 (19:17:22): back
VardaValar1 (19:17:25): I have a topic :-)
Eonwe Valar (19:17:36): Your floor Varda.
VardaValar1 (19:17:55): What qualities did the Fellowship actually display, that are the ones we admire?
VardaValar1 (19:18:00): As in things they did
VardaValar1 (19:18:08): How they went the extra mile
VardaValar1 (19:18:24): Try starting with Gimli :-)
HeruRasa (19:19:05): He took the time to get to know an elf, not your normal dwarf thing to do
Orodreth V (19:19:17): Oh bother, was going to ask if anyonr here had teamspeak.
GwaihirValar (19:19:28): nope, no mic and never plan to get one
Orodreth V (19:19:36): /me kicks report
Orodreth V (19:20:16): But you could listen to me rant and rave about this report. Wouldn't that be FUN? ;-)
Orodreth V (19:20:57): </offtopic>
Eonwe Valar (19:21:01): Well, I'll comment on the Conspiracy :}
Eonwe Valar (19:21:56): Sam, Merry, and Pippin showed deep love and concern for Frodo, knowing that if BIlbo disappeared, Frodo was soon to follow. it was their love for Frodo that gave him some protection against many of the first trials he faced.
Orodreth V (19:22:12): I can't comment myself on anything about the personality of the characters of the fellowship. A side effect of too much fan fiction and not enough Tolkien I'm afraid.
Eonwe Valar (19:22:25): And in speaking of the Conspiracy, we can't leave out Fatty Bolger, who risked his own safety to ensure the secrecy of Frodo's mission.
Eonwe Valar (19:23:39): None of the Conspirators had to do anything that they did.
ArPharazonV (19:24:01): well, gotta go...
Eonwe Valar (19:24:01): except maybe Sam :}
ArPharazonV (19:24:09): Namarie
ArPharazonV (19:24:12): for real
Eonwe Valar (19:24:24): Take care
ArPharazonV (19:24:44): thnx
ArPharazonV (19:24:44): you too
(19:25:00) ArPharazonV has left the room.
Eonwe Valar (19:25:07): I know you all have at some point read Tolkien. Where are your comments? :}
FarmerMaggotV (19:25:46): my comment is that I cannot rotate / fold paper in my head....... now to scroll up and see what you're talking about :-P
Eonwe Valar (19:26:01): :}
FarmerMaggotV (19:26:59): hm, I'd have to say Gandalf's quality was the sage like / wiseness
Eonwe Valar (19:27:11): Anyone else folding paper? :}
GwaihirValar (19:27:21): I'm sorry, a little distracted... writing a few posts on the WoW forums about problems with hunters lol... and I can't think too clearly right now... (still a little sick from last week and tired after work)
FarmerMaggotV (19:27:59): and sigh, I made a valentines on the computer. The Gimp said a standard piece of paper was 2550x3300..... so I have a very tiny valentines that you have to flip over when you open it so it looks right :-P
VardaValar1 (19:28:02): How did Gandalf go the extra mile?
FarmerMaggotV (19:28:13): Hm, he kept checking up on them
FarmerMaggotV (19:28:43): because he clearly had other places to be
GwaihirValar (19:28:51): he came back from the dead? ;-)
FarmerMaggotV (19:29:06): that too, not too many of them did that for the team :-P
Eonwe Valar (19:29:13): Sounds like you're talking about the Hobbit Farmer :}
FarmerMaggotV (19:29:26): No, I was speaking of the LOTR
FarmerMaggotV (19:29:47): doesn't he keep checking on them (moreso in the beginning)
Eonwe Valar (19:29:52): During most of LotR, Gandalf is with at least part of the Fellowship. HIs place to be was right there.
FarmerMaggotV (19:30:17): ah, but he did have to check on stuff did he not? (my memory's lousy, sorry)
VardaValar1 (19:30:29): Gandalf died fighting the Balrog to help the Fellowship
HeruRasa (19:31:02): Gandalf lost his physical presence, he can't die :-)
(19:31:08) GilraenV has left the room.
FarmerMaggotV (19:31:43): ah right, I was thinking of like Frodo, Sam, and Aragorn -> before the fellowship
VardaValar1 (19:32:16): Topic is the Fellowship and how they went the extra mile for each other
FarmerMaggotV (19:32:26): yeah, I realize that now
VardaValar1 (19:33:36): Gandalf did indeed lose his original physical presence, had to be most unpleasant, and got a new physical presence
FarmerMaggotV (19:34:07): Well, Gandalf staying to hold the bridge while they crossed, and ultimately being killed / relocated / something
FarmerMaggotV (19:35:42): not sure which word to use heh
HeruRasa (19:36:19): don't use any, or you risk me sidetracking the whole chat as I say he was never killed at all :-)
FarmerMaggotV (19:36:43): I think I've seen that topic once or twice brought up heh
VardaValar1 (19:37:37): That delves into what death is. All I mean is that Gandalf went to great personal discomfort and effort for the Fellowship
Eonwe Valar (19:38:34): I wrote a paper for the Encyclopedia on Gandalf's death once. I know there's those who don't agree, as I wrote that paper because of them :}
FarmerMaggotV (19:40:25): Sam did the extra mile when he took the ring from Frodo (as I doubt Sam did it because of greed), I'm sure he could see how it was messing up Frodo
VardaValar1 (19:40:46): Aye
(19:40:55) Xseanzee disco has entered the room.
VardaValar1 (19:41:11): And when Sam carried Frodo, or even went with him when Frodo tried to leave them all behind
VardaValar1 (19:41:14): Aiya Gil-galad :-)
Xseanzee disco (19:41:18): Heyy
Xseanzee disco (19:41:27): what area are you guys in on wow?
VardaValar1 (19:41:36): Server? Lothar
VardaValar1 (19:41:57): Let me know here what name you use so I can invite you to the guild
VardaValar1 (19:42:03): I'm doing that for guys right now
VardaValar1 (19:42:21): Tell me in AIM
Xseanzee disco (19:42:40): k
Eonwe Valar (19:45:27): Guess thats' it for Tolkien chat. Meeting Adjourned :} [Note: Tolkien chat continued anyway in After-meeting]
FarmerMaggotV (19:45:47): heh
VardaValar1 (19:45:56): sorry was also Tolkien chatiting with Ulmo in pm and
VardaValar1 (19:45:59): in WoW
VardaValar1 (19:46:05): *puff*
HeruRasa (19:46:09): hehe
VardaValar1 (19:46:10): Hey Ulmo!
VardaValar1 (19:46:19): Copy paste what you were saying? :-)
HeruRasa (19:47:02): hmm, wont let me
Xseanzee disco (19:48:18): what race do i have to be?
VardaValar1 (19:48:25): HeruRasa (6:34:18 PM): matter of symantics, I say he can't die in any shape or form, elves can and are reincarnated, Maiar just lose physical ties to Arda and have to find another to come back
VardaValar1 (19:48:35): Gil, whatever you please in Alliance
VardaValar1 (19:48:48): You are supposed to enjoy your time :-)
Eonwe Valar (19:48:53): Lose physical ties to Arda?
VardaValar1 (19:49:12): VardaValar1 (6:43:00 PM): But isn't death just separating from your physical body because it was rendered unusable?
Eonwe Valar (19:49:13): Middle Earth, perhaps, but they are trapped in Arda, with or without a Fëa
VardaValar1 (19:49:22): HeruRasa (6:43:23 PM): not for humans or dwarvesHeruRasa (6:43:47 PM): it is the end of all ties to Arda for them
VardaValar1 (19:49:31): HeruRasa (6:45:28 PM): same for elves killed, unless they had some task yet to fulfill worthy of reincarnation
Eonwe Valar (19:49:34): well, trapped in Ea, at least, if you take Ea to be the Universe and Arda to be Earth.
VardaValar1 (19:49:37): That's it :-)
Eonwe Valar (19:50:15): I see, I'l lassume "Arda" means "Middle Earth"
Eonwe Valar (19:50:47): (I hear Gandalf Exorcizing Theoden in the background :})
VardaValar1 (19:53:46): We could take this chat to WoW?
VardaValar1 (19:53:55): I am hopping between 2 comps
Eonwe Valar (19:55:03): Will do.. But you get stuck with me standing around and chatting :}
HeruRasa (19:55:14): hehe, ok
VardaValar1 (19:55:15): ok :-)
Eonwe Valar (19:55:16): As hard as it will be to keep myself from not moving around my character :}
