Menelvagor Valar: checking on a WoW europe member if she's going to come
FarmerMaggotV: Varda: is it on Sigmachat / Battle.net and just not AIM?
VardaValar1: back
Menelvagor Valar: is it possible it can't come here due to a recent patch for AIM?
VardaValar1: Not talking from Diablo
VardaValar1: Twisted is being rewritten
VardaValar1: I'll start calling in people
FarmerMaggotV: hm
Menelvagor Valar: bridge is in sigma
FarmerMaggotV: *** NetworkPlugin AIM has died. *** -- how fun
VardaValar1: ouch
FarmerMaggotV: I'm trying to figure out why
VardaValar1: Bridge shows in Diablo, just not talking
GilraenV has entered the room.

GilraenV: aiya folks

Menelvagor Valar: going to be quiet tonight *grin*
VardaValar1: Aiya
VardaValar1: We are having a problem with the Bridge thanks to AIM
AuSteinM: hey
FarmerMaggotV: can BNet and Sigmachat talk to each other as it should?
AuSteinM: yeah, the bridge is dead
GwaihirValar has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya
AuSteinM: what's it coded in? I can recode it

FarmerMaggotV: it's Python, and I'm workin' on it heh
AuSteinM: alright
Eonwe Valar has entered the room.
VardaValar1: I hear nothing on Diablo, double-checking
VardaValar1: Diablo is hearing SigmaChat
VardaValar1: Hi Eonwe : )
Eonwe Valar: hey
VardaValar1: I'm going to eat supper and type anyway : )
top

VardaValar1: Elen sila lumenn' omentielvo
FladrifV has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya
VardaValar1: Does anyone have Pengolodh on the AIM list?
LouieKisKowsKi has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya
LouieKisKowsKi: Hi you all
FarmerMaggotV: hm, thanks to AuStein I've figured out what's wrong -> http://blogs.mit.edu/austein
FarmerMaggotV: should have it up in 10 minutes to 30
LouieKisKowsKi: Dawn of war is the coolest game of all time
VardaValar1: Great! Thanks
VardaValar1: Ok, we'll call on you in Games part then :-)

VardaValar1: Membership:
VardaValar1: New member this week: Pengolodh
VardaValar1: That is his AIM name too, if any of you see him on
VardaValar1: Pengolodh-(V) joined as a full member at the end of last meeting
VardaValar1: Arwen has gone back to college, but keeping in contact
VardaValar1: She just got WoW Lothar and joined the branch today
VardaValar1: Any other Member news?
Menelvagor Valar: a tidbit
VardaValar1: Go ahead : )
LiberalHound has entered the room.
Menelvagor Valar: I'm going back to school monday in a week, and that would mean I probably won't be able to stay much longer after 12 (or 6 EST) to get my much required sleep
Menelvagor Valar: and that means I am unfortunately for a while, no longer saving transcripts *cry*
VardaValar1: We need to make these meetings faster anyway. So that gives you about one hour?
Menelvagor Valar: 2 at most
VardaValar1: Better than many. We will miss those transcripts, but we'll scrape by
Menelvagor Valar: I have to travel about an hour and a half to school, which means I'll have to get up real early
VardaValar1: ouch - a long commute1
LouieKisKowsKi: i am lots afk sorry
Menelvagor Valar: true, but I am completely intent on finishing school this time!
VardaValar1: Please do!
VardaValar1: If we can help, holler. Sometimes we are useful
Menelvagor Valar: oh, I am going to :-)
VardaValar1: hehe - good
VardaValar1: Is your friend from WoW Europe on the way?
Menelvagor Valar: in my third year I will have a foreign internship, so any help in housing + finding a school for internship would be greatly appreciated
Menelvagor Valar: checking, one moment :-)
FladrifV has left the room.
VardaValar1: And the tree crashes
VardaValar1: Any other member news?
VardaValar1: Birthdays, anniversaries?
Menelvagor Valar: unfortunately, no reply from my europe member
VardaValar1: Okies
VardaValar1: We trust not sufferering from keyboard face
top

VardaValar1: Web News:
Menelvagor Valar: 2 week and 1 month until Valar Guild's 8th anniversary! :-D
VardaValar1: Go us! : )
VardaValar1: Links page with a zillion links added an updated one for both Tengwar scripts
VardaValar1: sent in by Pengolodh
VardaValar1: http://at.mansbjorkman.net/
VardaValar1: Galdor sent us a link to a thread that is funny:
VardaValar1: http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.as px?FN=wow-realm-cenarioncircle&T=145 812&P=1
VardaValar1: Son posts in Official WoW forums at 3:30 a.m. and then gets busted by his mother...on the same board a few hours later.
VardaValar1: It's one of the longest and fastest growing threads on the net
Menelvagor Valar: I've seen it, and relayed it to my friends in europe
Menelvagor Valar: unfortunately us euro's can't post in US forums :-(
VardaValar1: The Tolkien Encyclopedia has all the good guys on the Maiar page separated into separate articles
VardaValar1: Guess you'll have to post on our Guild forum. Galdor mentions it there and you comment at that spot : )
VardaValar1: And I'm currently working on the Balrog articles, almost done
GwaihirValar: oh, member news... I'm still alive ;-)
VardaValar1: Yay Eagle!
VardaValar1: Not working during the meeting today? : )
GwaihirValar: I'm usually sleeping during the meeting
GwaihirValar: lol
GwaihirValar: I work 11:30PM - 8 AM
GwaihirValar: so my sleep schedule's a little wierd ;-)
VardaValar1: Understood
VardaValar1: WoW Lothar players page is updated every few days
VardaValar1: We need some volunteers
VardaValar1: They need to handle a page for their favorite game not already handled
VardaValar1: listing members in a way that other gamers of that game can find them
VardaValar1: For instance, D2X would have a primary name with account names under it
VardaValar1: Email me if you want to give it a shot. Someone is reading the transcript even if not present right now.
VardaValar1: We can also have team ups, with someone setting up a page that another can update
VardaValar1: But they need to work together, not have one wander off into the pixel night.
VardaValar1: Any other Web New?
VardaValar1: Eonwe? Menelvagor?
VardaValar1: *nudge*
Menelvagor Valar: nope, sorry
VardaValar1: That's a report too : )
VardaValar1: Eonwe?
Menelvagor Valar: working on a coversite for both the euro WoW guild, as well as the alliance I'm creating
VardaValar1: Toss us the URL when you have it and we'll put it somewhere : )
VardaValar1: I know Eonwe's been working on the Games page, even if he's afk right now
top

VardaValar1: Gaming News:
VardaValar1: Menel, would you like to give your WoW Europe report first?
Menelvagor Valar: sure
Menelvagor Valar: guildwise: nothing.
Menelvagor Valar: as for the rest
VardaValar1: Any of them showing up in the games?
Menelvagor Valar: mostly Fladrif and Phar
Menelvagor Valar: Valandile is around now and then as well
VardaValar1: Good to hear!
Menelvagor Valar: as for the alliance I am setting up, mostly for raiding purposes at the moment, we're almost done with that part, and we're already raiding once a week
VardaValar1: Is that raiding Instances?
Menelvagor Valar: aye
Menelvagor Valar: have done Molten Core twice in the past 2 weeks, both times killed the first boss, Lucifron
Menelvagor Valar: friday will be the 3rd time we're going in, this time we'll be aiming to kill Magmadar as well
Menelvagor Valar: and that's about it
VardaValar1: Thank you Menel! That's a lot : )
VardaValar1: Good to hear you can field raids!
VardaValar1: Eonwe, could you give the US WoW report?
Eonwe Valar: Sure
Menelvagor Valar: would have been more would I not want to spare those who don't have WoW with insignificant details, Varda :-D
VardaValar1: hehe
VardaValar1: Type it up for your site if you like ;-)
VardaValar1: Eonwe's floor
GwaihirValar: afk for a little sry :-)
Eonwe Valar: Meeting in Un'goro Crater, Sauron shared the quests he had gathered with Eonwë, for Arathorn did not need them, and we began killing Diemetradons and Pterrordaxes to help fix Shizzle's Flyer.
Eonwe Valar: The later also helped us complete Beware of Pterrordax.
Eonwe Valar: Once gathering all the scales we needed and ridding Un'goro of the necessary amount of Pterrordaxes and Frenzied Pterrordaxes, we went after the gorilla pelts and A-ME.
Eonwe Valar: Achieving both tasks, we took a moment to get Mithril casings for Kalasul to fix A-ME.
Eonwe Valar: Upon our return to the mechanical ape, a mage named Amelan joined us so that he may complete the quest as well. We escorted A-ME to safety and went back for U'Cha.
Eonwe Valar: That concluded questing in Un'goro.
Eonwe Valar: Later that night, Eonwë, Varda, and Gil-Galad got together to sneak into Eldreth Row in Dire Maul.
VardaValar1: =)
Eonwe Valar: A slight slipup caused us to snag a fight at first, but after that we managed to sneak quietly through and attain our Dire Water without incident.
Eonwe Valar: Once out, we killed a few of the Ogres for good measure and went on our way.
Eonwe Valar: And that concludes the Friday questing report.
VardaValar1: Thank you, Eonwe!
Eonwe Valar: MP
VardaValar1: We were going to have a Dawn of Ages report, but our reporter promptly had to go make dinner. Maybe later
VardaValar1: Family first : )
VardaValar1: Do we have any other gaming reports, reviews?
VardaValar1: Anyone play anything this week other than WoW?
Eonwe Valar: I tried to play WotR, but apparently my CD doesn't like being read by my DVD/CD combo drive.
VardaValar1: ouch
aranfinwe: just browser games on my part
aranfinwe: well...
VardaValar1: Any you find that really hook you, Finwe?
aranfinwe: now that I think about it, Civ3 and Halo
aranfinwe: depends on how slow a day at work I'm having :-)
aranfinwe: (if store is clean, merchandise on walls, but nobody in store, boss don't mind)
VardaValar1: Keeps you from wandering off : )
aranfinwe: heh, one of the guys keeps his Xbox at his store for downtimes
LSPrefersCarbon has entered the room.
FarmerMaggotV: there we go, LSPrefersCarbon is the bridge
VardaValar1: We're going to have to run you back through the books for more Tolkien oriented names : )
VardaValar1: Thanks, Farmer
VardaValar1: Something like Mushrooms, even ;-)
VardaValar1: Glad to have it, Farmer. A Rose by any other name, even Gamgee...
VardaValar1: Any other news, comments, suggestions, or what you would like to have us do in meetings?
VardaValar1: More gaming? Less? More Tolkien? More Tolkien?
aranfinwe: how much is WoW/month?
aranfinwe: shouldn't but am considering....
VardaValar1: hehe
Eonwe Valar: $16.00/month, rounded
VardaValar1: Depends on how long a stretch you buy for
Eonwe Valar: If that's not enough to shy you away, you were going to play anyway :}
aranfinwe: ahhh....
VardaValar1: 12 something a month for 6 months
aranfinwe: hehe :-)
aranfinwe: just been looking at possible games to play when at home...
VardaValar1: Used to be a year's worth, but I didn't see it last check
aranfinwe: some of mine are losing their shine
VardaValar1: First month is free
VardaValar1: A lot of the fun is in bumping into buddies from Valar
VardaValar1: If you come in to Lothar, type /join Valar
aranfinwe: I'll have to look into it
VardaValar1: That gives you our extra channel, does not put you in the guild
aranfinwe: lol
VardaValar1: Sure looks like it : )
VardaValar1: You are a member, we just have to know you are there and bring you in
VardaValar1: Use your Tolkien name or a version thereof
VardaValar1: You can type /who Valar for whoever is on right at that very second
aranfinwe: kk
VardaValar1: But then more come in right after you typed it!
VardaValar1: So the extra channel is good
aranfinwe: can't say it'll be happening immediately, but I need a comp game fix badly
VardaValar1: It was not working for a while
VardaValar1: We'll be around a while : )
aranfinwe: :-)
VardaValar1: We are hoping Lord of the Rings Online will come out next year and be wonderful
VardaValar1: But a lot of us probably won't have good enough comps at first
aranfinwe: lol
aranfinwe: any word on if it's mac compatible?
VardaValar1: I expect that is part of what they are working on
Eonwe Valar: quite sure it is.
aranfinwe: t'would be nice
VardaValar1: With Apple going with Intel, more things will be compatible maybe
aranfinwe: ummm....
FarmerMaggotV: I severly doubt it, if they're using the DirectX stuff
FarmerMaggotV: (which most Windows games do)
aranfinwe: compatibilty w/ apple is less hardware and more software
FarmerMaggotV: well, the only thing it'd help is the extremely optimized stuff
aranfinwe: as far as DirectX goes, most ports that had it originally find a way - there's just a bit of delay getting there
FarmerMaggotV: yea, depends if they feel the extra work is worth the money, and a lot of times they don't think so
VardaValar1: Bringing in Mac people isn't worth it?
FarmerMaggotV: 5% of computer users, and not all of those 5% would play the game
aranfinwe: Mac market share is pretty small...
FarmerMaggotV: yeah, 5% is optimistic at best
VardaValar1: That is a small share, aye
aranfinwe: I'm curious as to how small they are in the gaming market, tho....
GilraenV: I'm off, folks. Work in the morning. Namarie.
VardaValar1: Namarie!
aranfinwe: namarie
GilraenV has left the room.
aranfinwe: having said that about market share....
aranfinwe: 5% of the comp market is still a lot of money....
VardaValar1: Whisper Tolkien topics?
FarmerMaggotV: yeah, but only a small portion have decent graphics cards -- the Mac Mini's only have a card with 32MB RAM on the chip (forgot which card though)
FladrifV has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Welcome back : )
top

Tolkien:
VardaValar1: Some side-whispering about Tolkien topics
VardaValar1: The best one so far is what do Balrogs do when not in duels to the death with Elves? : )
VardaValar1: Eonwe had that one
VardaValar1: We know the Balrog in Moria had dealings going on
aranfinwe: poker?
VardaValar1: no doubt : )
aranfinwe: (sry, couldn't resist) :-)
VardaValar1: What a bluff he would have1
Menelvagor Valar: oh, just a funny side thing, one of my euro guildies got The One Ring a few days ago
Menelvagor Valar: not quite as good as The Two Ring though (grin(
Menelvagor Valar: *grin*
VardaValar1: Real life buying?
VardaValar1: hoho
Menelvagor Valar: nope, in-game item, adds +1 to all stats
VardaValar1: WoW? Where?
VardaValar1: *puts hands in front of Sauron's eyes*
VardaValar1: How about which continent? : )
Menelvagor Valar: http://www.thottbot.com/?i=5503
VardaValar1: okies, thanks
VardaValar1: Back to the Balrog of Moria : )
Menelvagor Valar: actually called `The 1 Ring` but who looks at the difference?
VardaValar1: He worked with the Orcs in Moria
Menelvagor Valar: sowwy *smile*
VardaValar1: We could discuss the One Ring : )
VardaValar1: Sounds like something WoW Tolkien fan programmers do
VardaValar1: They have a ton of Tolkien and other pop culture references. Much fun
VardaValar1: Whoever is here and able to join in, please type Aye
VardaValar1: Aye
Menelvagor Valar: half aye
VardaValar1: Hmm, guess I should go back to working on the Tolkien Encyc :-)
Menelvagor Valar: WoW guild stuff keeps popping up around every corner I walk
VardaValar1: Same here, Menel
Eonwe Valar: Aye
aranfinwe: sry, kinda distracted by side conversation...
VardaValar1: Ok, I guess I'll let this afk lot go
VardaValar1: I have several going all the time, Finwe : )
VardaValar1: We know you are at work too
GwaihirValar: back :-)
VardaValar1: hiya
VardaValar1: Would any of you like to get together for a game?
VardaValar1: As on Lothar, or Bnet?
aranfinwe: not much longer... actually have to go get some stuff for delivery to another store...
VardaValar1: Okies
VardaValar1: Any thoughts on Balrogs?
VardaValar1: How well they do at Poker?
Eonwe Valar: Don't fight them unless you have to
VardaValar1: Better to seal off the cave?
VardaValar1: Put up a sign in Khuzdul, "Do not disturb."
Eonwe Valar: "Do not open until the Valar arrive."
VardaValar1: There you go : )
GwaihirValar: I dunno, they might make good bouncers.
VardaValar1: Topic: Signs needed for Middle-earth
GwaihirValar: maybe the Dwarves might be wise to make friends with them ;-)
VardaValar1: Topic: Other uses for out of work bad guys
VardaValar1: The Balrogs would be glad to invite Dwarves for lunch.
aranfinwe: time for me to depart all, namarie
VardaValar1: Namarie. Dead here anyway : )
VardaValar1: Be careful
aranfinwe: will try, but it's up to others on road, too :-)
VardaValar1: Too true
Eonwe Valar: Balrogs could put in the ceiling fixtures in the 8th Hall.
VardaValar1: Then be lucky!
VardaValar1: Good idea
Eonwe Valar: Nazgul could be used to gather intelligence.
aranfinwe: heh, same to you all :-)
aranfinwe has left the room.
VardaValar1: The empty-headed need to gather intelligence. Take a peek behind the cowl lately?
Eonwe Valar: orcs can be used as lawn ornaments.
VardaValar1: Or scarecrows?
GwaihirValar: the trolls make good lawn ornaments too... especially with bird's nests
Eonwe Valar: Trolls can be used to form multiple Middle-Earth versions of Master Blaster with Hobbits.
Eonwe Valar: (Mad Max reference there)
GwaihirValar: as Pippin found out ;-)
Eonwe Valar: Dragons can be used to give kiddies rides around a pen for $5.
Eonwe Valar: Rough crowd tonight :}
VardaValar1: Absentee crowd :-)
VardaValar1: I was just inviting Orodreth
Eonwe Valar: I thought the Master Blaster one would get a few chuckels at least :}
VardaValar1: Should tell him to go play : )
VardaValar1: Didn't understand, and I saw Mad Max
Eonwe Valar: I hope I'm not making a reference no one knows :}
VardaValar1: Been a while
Eonwe Valar: Mad Max beyond Thunderdome is the specific movie
VardaValar1: Second one. Still been a while
VardaValar1: Eowyn didn't get it either, so I feel better ;-)
Eonwe Valar: Third one actually.
Eonwe Valar: There's 3 in the Mad Max movie series.
VardaValar1: okies. Shot over my head
Eonwe Valar: One's called "The Road Warrior"
VardaValar1: yep
Eonwe Valar: the other two are more obvious
VardaValar1: All three very violent and a lot of leather
VardaValar1: noisy machines, cages
Eonwe Valar: It is post-apocalyptic :}
VardaValar1: aye
Orodreth V has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Jan Michel-Vincent was in a post-apocolyptic that I can't think of now
VardaValar1: Aiya Oro : )
VardaValar1: The meeting is pretty much over, as we didn't really have a topic that caught on
VardaValar1: It turned into jobs that Tolkien's bad guys could be given after the war
VardaValar1: Balrog barbecue grills
VardaValar1: And about signs that should be posted around Middle-earth
VardaValar1: Call before you dig, over the cave-in at Moria.
VardaValar1: Maybe we can think of a few Menelvagor can use for the Humor page : )
top

After-meeting:
LSPrefersCarbon: Varda-(Valar) (Bnet): Bridge still good on Bnet : )
FarmerMaggotV: =)
Eonwe Valar: yay :}
Orodreth V: My comp is weirdly broken.
VardaValar1: What is it doing?
Orodreth V: I can't play any fullscreen games, or it locks up after about half an hour.
VardaValar1: So you make the screen smaller to play and use a magnifying glass for chat?
VardaValar1: Ok, you comp folk. Orodreth has a puzzle for you to work out. : )
Eonwe Valar: I assume you meet the minimum requirements for the games you play?
Orodreth V: Yea.
Orodreth V: They all worked fine until, they, youknow, broke.
VardaValar1: All at the same time?
Orodreth V: And it happens for anything that tries to take fullscreencontrol of my box.
VardaValar1: Vidoe card?
Orodreth V: GeForce 6800.
VardaValar1: Video card?
VardaValar1: We had a video card once that blew smoke and died part way. : )
FarmerMaggotV: nice card Oro
VardaValar1: Aye! In warranty?
VardaValar1: Sounds new enough
VardaValar1: I'm going to go start my D2X, Ladder 3 character
VardaValar1: Everyone remember the pass?
Orodreth V: It's still under warranty, but it's weird.
Orodreth V: I actually ran Firefly on here
VardaValar1: If under warranty, you can excange it
VardaValar1: The TV show?
Orodreth V: Yea, I got the DVD from a friend.
VardaValar1: We picked up the series. Waiting for the movie :-)
VardaValar1: So it runs DVD, but gets weird on CD?
VardaValar1: Namarie guys. My machine is running slower and slower
Eonwe Valar: take care
