ElatanValar: Evening all
ArPharazonV: Aiya

Orodreth V: My friend is giving me the actual game soon, though.
Orodreth V: I'll have War3/TFT/SC/BW all installed by next sunday.
bnetValar: ArPharazonV (SigmaChat): Yup, working
: k
Orodreth V: If anyone wants the specs, they are an athlon 2800+ xp processor, a geforce 6800 vid card, 512mb ram, and 250 gig hd.
VardaValar1: Orodreth, what will you be playing?
Orodreth V: and the ram is not a bottleneck
Orodreth V: TFT/BW
Orodreth V: And the pandora tomorrow demo.
Orodreth V: which is <3
FladrifV: is the geforce 6800 preforming well?
Orodreth V: very
FladrifV: I was myself thinking of the 6800 le :-)
Orodreth V: anthings an improvement on my old raedon 500 though
FladrifV: lol
Orodreth V: 7500
Eonwe Valar has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya
Eonwe Valar: Heya All.
Orodreth V: I
Orodreth V: I'll stop bragging now.
ArPharazonV: Aiya
: hehe Oro
VardaValar1: We rejoice with you : )
GwaihirValar: lol I can't even fill my 80 gigs of hd space....
: I can't either, but it's a pain to back up 30 or so gigs
FladrifV: confused
VardaValar1: Put five constant users on it and it will fill up : )
FladrifV: 30 gig a problem?
: yeah, for me =P
ArPharazonV: soon, Flad... soon I'll get 180 gig in total ;-)
Eonwe Valar: I have a friend who filled his 235 gigs of Hardrive space and is now trying to transfer stuff to dvd so he can fill it some more.
ElatanValar: Heyas Eonwe
FladrifV: arphara much more :-)
GwaihirValar: by the way, sorry I haven't seemed to be alive lately... I've been working late evenings so its hard to find time to see anyone... but I am alive!
ArPharazonV: ?
ArPharazonV: was it more than 120?
VardaValar1: Oh good, we won't have to poke you to check
GwaihirValar: hehe
FladrifV: make 260 of it
ArPharazonV: ah, right
ArPharazonV: that's going to be a pain to fill... :P
GwaihirValar: don't worry, Gilraen's ensuring I don't go dying on you
VardaValar1: Good for her : )
VardaValar1: We have some more member business
Eonwe Valar: So,.. we don't get Kentucky fried Eagle? :}
VardaValar1: We are going to try an experiment in our MMORPG recruiting policy
VardaValar1: This will only affect the big MMORPG games like WoW, EQ, EQ2, DAoC, MeO
VardaValar1: Not the other games where characters build faster
VardaValar1: When we are scouting, it is okay for a person with a high level outsider to bring in one character
VardaValar1: Only one
VardaValar1: No point in bothering if it is a small one that can be built in a few days
VardaValar1: In World of WarCraft, we put a note on the guild list that shows the correct guild name beside the outsider name
VardaValar1: We wonderful folk who joined Valar before the MMORPG don't have to be bothered with such confusions.
VardaValar1: We can start off with guild names
VardaValar1: In EQ, we tried a very strict policy. We died. Unable to recruit.
VardaValar1: In DAOC, we went too lenient and lost the Tolkien altogether and turned into just another nice group
VardaValar1: It died
VardaValar1: So from hard experience, we think this will work
ArPharazonV: I'm confused to this new policy... but I guess I'll see it into practice some day
VardaValar1: Discussion invited : )
GwaihirValar: nobody wants to abandon their top level characters just to join a guild... they wanna join it so they can use their top level characters with other top level characters....
VardaValar1: Aye, Gwaihir
ArPharazonV: oh, I get it now... never mind
ElatanValar: And when done with that they might want to build another one
VardaValar1: See, we need the eagle around to clarify what I say
ElatanValar: but then with the proper guild name
VardaValar1: Any new characters made for the guild after that first one joins must be in a guild name, right
GwaihirValar: Birds eye view helps to make things easier ;-)
VardaValar1: hehe
HeruRasa has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya Ulmo : )
GwaihirValar: Aiya! :-)
VardaValar1: This suggestion was made by Ulmo : )
ElatanValar: Greetings Ulmo
HeruRasa: it was? :-)
VardaValar1: Elatan, Eonwe, and I are with him on this
VardaValar1: Yes : )
VardaValar1: We were talking about the new MMORPG recruiting policy : )
VardaValar1: Thought I'd give you a shock ; )
VardaValar1: All we've said so far is that in MMORPG's we allow a new recruit to come in with one character only
VardaValar1: in case he has a high level he does not want to abandon
VardaValar1: If it's low level, we might talk him into just using his guild guy ; )
: afk, dinner
VardaValar1: But after that first one, he must make guild characters for the guild
VardaValar1: Is there anything you would like to add or clarify?
HeruRasa: hmm
ArPharazonV: Aiya, btw
HeruRasa: The reason why I am so in favor of it is that I can't see us being able to recruit active gamers if we don't allow it
GwaihirValar: aye, me neither
VardaValar1: "Active Gamers" being guys who are in near 60
VardaValar1: Does that make my 39 "inactive"? ;-)
Xseanzee disco has entered the room.
HeruRasa: Our regular Tolkien requirements are restrictive in themselves (not a complaint)
HeruRasa: No, I don't refer to level, I refer to wanting to play well and advance as the fun in mmorgs
ElatanValar: True Ulmo, if someone spent days of gaming to build a char they do not want to abandon it just to join a guild ( even a nice one ) since there is lots of nice guilds around
ArPharazonV: Aiya
GwaihirValar: aye, and I know a number of people who have a main at 60 and alts at 40+...
HeruRasa: not too far off for me :-)
GwaihirValar: so I mean even the one 60 bringing over may discourage some people...
GwaihirValar: I've got my main at 60 and an alt at 40, one at 32, and a few around 20... on diff servers hehe
GwaihirValar: I think my mage is 32... I'll have to get on to check
HeruRasa: and I thought I played too much ;-)
VardaValar1: Congrats on your 59 Ulmo!
ArPharazonV: too much WoW? Is there any such thing? ;-)
VardaValar1: Come in and join us as Vaiwalcin when you can, Gwaihir!
GwaihirValar: I've seen the inside of Molten Core once though, which is neat :-)
ElatanValar: I want euro players joining :-) I spend too much time alone
GwaihirValar: we didn't get far... man the enemies in there are insane...
GwaihirValar: two enemies can kill 40 level 60s... not even bosses
HeruRasa: BRS?
VardaValar1: Any word on when Euro can join?
GwaihirValar: no, Molten Core
VardaValar1: I thought we had guys on 24/7
ArPharazonV: not sure... but the next batch of games will be out next week
ElatanValar: not officially as far as I know
GwaihirValar: BRS is nothing compared to Molten Core :-)
ArPharazonV: so I'll probably at least have the game in a week ;-)
ArPharazonV: so many games... so little time...
ElatanValar: nope Varda
VardaValar1: Elatan, could you get with the other Euro guys and see if you can help them figure how to reach Lothar?
Xseanzee disco: whoa - two of what can kill 40 lvl 60s?
GwaihirValar: two of the 'regular' enemies in molten core
GwaihirValar: its ridiculous
ElatanValar: If they ask I`ll tell :-)
GwaihirValar: if you're not perfectly coordinated
GwaihirValar: you'll die
Xseanzee disco: is that like a fact or just your take?
GwaihirValar: its crazy... we were in there for over an hour and we successfully killed maybe ten enemies with 40 level 60s
HeruRasa: sounds like Plane of Time in EQ
GwaihirValar: MAYBE ten enemies
VardaValar1: Ok, Euros! Get with Elatan as soon as you can!
ArPharazonV: heheh.... as soon as we can... unfortunately that's not up to us
ElatanValar: well all they need is an International creditcard and a US WOW. rest is easy
VardaValar1: If the new recruit is willing to start new with a new name to join us, then that is still the best
Xseanzee disco: Quick question - does anyone know if my reformatting my computer will delete the characters on WoW? or are they stored in a sort of blizzard database?
VardaValar1: We are finding a number of Tolkien name guys on WoW, quite a few : )
GwaihirValar: they're stored on blizz
VardaValar1: Could get confusing
HeruRasa: characters are saved on the server, shouldnt matter
VardaValar1: Aye
Xseanzee disco: thanks
GwaihirValar: If they were stored locally blizz would have so many troubles with hackers
: same goes for D2
GwaihirValar: If you actually look in your folder
VardaValar1: They learned the hard way with D1 : )
GwaihirValar: you don't even have the game files
GwaihirValar: everything is stored on server
GwaihirValar: basically what we have are a few data tables, a TON of images, a few cinematics, and, effectively, a server connection
Xseanzee disco: First time MMORPG'er
: I prefer having the characters on my computer -- that way if I want I can play with them over a LAN too, but this is a whole other subject heh
GwaihirValar: we don't even have World of Warcraft, we just have a connection to World of Warcraft and the Art of World of Warcraft, basically
GwaihirValar: hehe
VardaValar1: LAN BW and D1 is still popular at my house : )
FladrifV: one thing holds me back from playing WoW
GwaihirValar: oh, and the sound
ArPharazonV: the monthly fee
ArPharazonV: ?
FladrifV: the monthly fee AND the fee for the game
ArPharazonV: so two things :-)
VardaValar1: It is like a magazine subscription for a heavy duty brand
FladrifV: dont like the pay twice rule
GwaihirValar: oh? buy a car ;-)
GwaihirValar: you pay for the car, and the gas to run the car
FladrifV: a magazine I pay only once :-)
HeruRasa: wait till WoW has expansions
: a.) a monthly feeb.) it's a completely closed system
VardaValar1: I pay yearly for WoW or a magazine
ArPharazonV: wait until you get a house
HeruRasa: lol
VardaValar1: EQ had a lot of expansions
GwaihirValar: or a house... you pay for the house, and then you pay for all the things used to run the house
ArPharazonV: wait until you get a... wait, you already have a girlfriend ;-)
FladrifV: :P
VardaValar1: Then try three kids in college ; )
FladrifV: that are vital things :P
GwaihirValar: thats basically the same concept... you buy the game and then you pay for access to the system that runs the game... hehe
HeruRasa: then you pay taxes for the priveledge to continue owning it
VardaValar1: Not sure how we play WoW, but all five of us do
VardaValar1: Aye Ulmo! Rent from the government!
FladrifV: I considder going to play guild wars :-)
ArPharazonV: tsk tsk tsk, Flad... WoW not a vital thing ;-)
ArPharazonV: oh, yes, Guildwars... man, my list keeps on growing... what do we have so far? Guildwars, WoW, Oblivion, DS 2, perhaps MeO....
FladrifV: university?
VardaValar1: D2X : )
ArPharazonV: not to mention actually finishing Morrowind, BfME, and DS 1...
ArPharazonV: oh, yes, D2X too
VardaValar1: MeO has been shoved back to 2006 after Turbine took over
FladrifV: need a good one without nothly fee :-)
FladrifV: n=m
ArPharazonV: so? DS 2 and Oblivion will still be a while too
ArPharazonV: Oblivion has just recently been announced (well, a few months ago), so it could take a year or 2, if not more
ArPharazonV: I'm just stating everything I want so far :-)
VardaValar1: I refused the monthly fee games for years. Finally got into them, but only one at a time thank you
ArPharazonV: so you'll give up WoW for MeO?
Eonwe Valar: By "took over" Varda means got the exclusive license so that now they are in control of the game development, not their parent company Vivendi.
ArPharazonV: Turbine.... Asheron's Call 2... good game that was
ArPharazonV: only played the 15-day trial, but still
VardaValar1: I don't know yet
Eonwe Valar: Didn't want anyone thinking MEO has been dropped and taken up by yet another company.
VardaValar1: Depends on the money situation at the time
VardaValar1: Thanks Eonwe
ArPharazonV: money situation? planning on winning the lottery? :P
FladrifV: yes i do :P
VardaValar1: Yes!
ElatanValar: MeO is far away, we could all be feed up by WoW at the time it is released
GwaihirValar: man Vivendi owns a lot
GwaihirValar: lol
VardaValar1: Also we are all trying to get decent paying jobs and hoping between us to afford such things
VardaValar1: Aye, Elatan : )
ArPharazonV: fed up by WoW? hmm... I don't see that happening for years to come... but hey, we'll see
GwaihirValar: afk for a bit
VardaValar1: but look how long we played EQ and DAOC! Years
GwaihirValar: *Shudders*
VardaValar1: I am hoping for both, but MeO is very slow coming out, so no worries for a while : )
ElatanValar: exactly Arp, we do not know and there is no reason to speculate upon it yet :-)
VardaValar1: I speculate on everything, reason or no ; )
ArPharazonV: long-term planning never harmed anybody... well, you know what I mean
ElatanValar: it could be pushed into 2007 :-)
HeruRasa: I actively played EQ for almost 4 years
VardaValar1: Very probable, Elatan
VardaValar1: And Ulmo was verrry good at it : )
VardaValar1: I am hoping we will play WoW a long time
VardaValar1: It is an excellent way for a large guild to play together, if they will get Euro on board!
HeruRasa: RPI will be offering a game programming major in computer science next year
VardaValar1: What is RPI?
: that the one in NY?
VardaValar1: *gets plane tickets ready*
HeruRasa: Renselear Polytechnic Institute
: ah, yeah, my guidance counselor was talking about that
VardaValar1: What state?
HeruRasa: upstate NY
: "upstate" hah
VardaValar1: Notice the continental tilt in that direction?
ElatanValar: I`ll log off here and play a bit WoW, need a couple scales yet to make my first piece of mail. Namarie here
VardaValar1: Namarie!
HeruRasa: Gothmog is deciding between RPI and Univ of Rochester right now for his college next year
VardaValar1: Eowyn is on WoW too : )
ArPharazonV: Namarie
HeruRasa: namarie
VardaValar1: Happy gaming!
ElatanValar has left the room.
VardaValar1: I have no further news of any kind
VardaValar1: Unless
ArPharazonV: technically
VardaValar1: Anyone wants to re-start the Counter-Strike Valar group?
ArPharazonV: we haven't even passed member yet, right?
VardaValar1: Gil-galad and Olwe?
VardaValar1: Right
Orodreth V: I might get HL (not 2).
ArPharazonV: but, if we want to skip web, I guess we can continue with gaming
Xseanzee disco: :-)

VardaValar1: Web:
VardaValar1: I've been working on the Encyc navigation
VardaValar1: and will for probably forever : )
VardaValar1: Any other web news?
VardaValar1: Farmer, this could also be the computer programmer section
VardaValar1: Is the Bridge still leaking your memory badly?
: the bridge is having some interesting issues tonight, and I've not a clue (only looked briefly though)
: memory seems to be fine
bnetValar: ArPharazonV (SigmaChat): working fine from here ;-)
VardaValar1: We also are continuing to keep the Sigma Chat available for members. Just click the link in the news, type your name, and you are there
: While you were talking about changing the recruiting stuff way above, it flooded in Bnet and disconnected
VardaValar1: And you can use your guild name with no trouble, unlike our beloved AIM
: (from bnet)
VardaValar1: ouch
: apparently sending too fast -- I should add some sort of queue to prevent flooding
VardaValar1: But we have no one in Bnet but the bridge. Might that be a problem?
: nope, just too many messages too fast
VardaValar1: So count to two before each keystroke? Sorry, I'd die ;-)
: heh
VardaValar1: Any further Web News?
VardaValar1: Games page? Humor page? Book Reviews?
VardaValar1: Anyone want to take over a current page?
VardaValar1: Do we have people who want to research for name variants for Tolkien characters used by the guild?
VardaValar1: Like to send something to the Encyc?
: what pages are available for the taking?
VardaValar1: (Isn't it handy to look afk? And how do I do that?)
VardaValar1: Farmer, would you be into the Web Weaver page?
FladrifV: is it posible to have a quake3 clan? :P
VardaValar1: If you can get the members in our guild for a branch, yes
VardaValar1: Would you like to work on that?
: hm, whatchya mean by web weaver page Varda? you lost me heh
VardaValar1: You need a person willing to spend time communicating with the rest of the guild, making reports at meetings, and putting info on the Forum
VardaValar1: We have a page called Web Weavers : )
FladrifV: qauke3 would be cool
FladrifV: its a gem it runs on any system and is highly modable
VardaValar1: You might have to get a member to make a charter, name roster, web page
VardaValar1: Then let us connect that to the main guild pages
: hm, perhaps
VardaValar1: The Web Weaver page is rather neglected, since I already have so many irons in the fire. I apologize
VardaValar1: It needs input from someone who likes to put up web pages
: which one is the Web Weavers page? the "Web Team for the Valar Guild" one?
VardaValar1: Any page you do for the guild needs a link back to the guild index
VardaValar1: Yes
VardaValar1: That was written that way to avoid the confusion you just showed at the name
VardaValar1: So we have only Gil and Olwe interested in CounterStrike, at least at this meeting?
VardaValar1: Anyone besides Fladrif intoQuake 3?
VardaValar1: We can form a guild branch anywhere, guys. And you can use our huge site to help you recruit. The usual things apply
VardaValar1: honor, courtesy, use guild names
Orodreth V: I might get HL/CS. Original, not 2.
VardaValar1: BroodWar? WC3?
VardaValar1: See what Olwe and Gil-galad are using, Orodreth.
Xseanzee disco: Orodreth - i STRONGLY reccommend HL2
Orodreth V: I'll be playing BW/WC3 alot.
VardaValar1: Olwe is Fallen Glory, Xseanzee disco is Gil-galad
Xseanzee disco: one of the best games i have ever played.
Orodreth V: I STRONGLY reccommend you give me cash,
VardaValar1: hehe
Orodreth V: Becasue without it I have no Hl2
Xseanzee disco: haha - i had a gift certificate to the mall.
Xseanzee disco: thats how i gotr mine
VardaValar1: Maybe after another hundred mowed lawns?
Xseanzee disco: ouch.
: or if you're lucky, you have retired teachers who need tech support =D
VardaValar1: At $10 apiece, takes 5 lawns for one CD
ArPharazonV: 10 apiece? must be big lawns
VardaValar1: They are
Xseanzee disco: HL2 was 60 bucks when i got it - like 2 days after it came out.
Xseanzee disco: it hasnt gone down yet?
VardaValar1: You get to do another lawn : )
VardaValar1: Might have to do edging to get the full $10
Xseanzee disco: part time lifeguard right here :-)
FladrifV: maybe a game with less system power need is handy :-)
VardaValar1: That's good too : )
ArPharazonV: the fun never stops ;-)
ArPharazonV: and that was lag
ArPharazonV: it was a comment on 'you get to do another lawn'
VardaValar1: Grass just keeps growing and makiing green money ;-)
VardaValar1: Any further web news?

VardaValar1: Gaming News:
VardaValar1: Any further Gaming News?
ArPharazonV: well
ArPharazonV: WoW coming out next week on Friday again, here in Europe
ArPharazonV: this time I do intend to get it
VardaValar1: In WoW, we currently have Dusksinger, Linqil, Arathorn variants, and Eowyn : )
ArPharazonV: I've already tried reserving it, but the store I went to (and is easiest gotten to by me) didn't have confirmation yet
VardaValar1: Phar, be sure to talk to Elatan first to see how to come to the US
ArPharazonV: so I'll go again on tuesday, and will see if they can reserve it then
VardaValar1: He might have suggestions you want before buying it
VardaValar1: Email is good too : )
ArPharazonV: well, to be honest... even without the US I'd still be wanting WoW
VardaValar1: Of course : )
VardaValar1: I'd just like to see you!
ArPharazonV: why would I need suggestions for joining the US before buying it?
VardaValar1: I suggest talking to Elatan
ArPharazonV: ...
ArPharazonV: again, why do I need to contact him before Friday?
ArPharazonV: will it effect my purchase in any way?
VardaValar1: Ask Elatan. I am now talking with you in a side window : )
VardaValar1: More gaming news:
VardaValar1: The Forum Middle-earth rp has a new post
ArPharazonV: today? haven't seen it yet...
VardaValar1: Eonwe
ArPharazonV: ah, the first of section 4?
VardaValar1: Would you like to say anything about the rp?
Xseanzee disco: Wait - where is 'the core'?
VardaValar1: And it is cheap, Fladrif ;-)
ArPharazonV: well, I thought about adding a post before the time of departure
VardaValar1: You can join us for just having a web browser
Eonwe Valar: Sure
Eonwe Valar: Part 4 has begun :}
ArPharazonV: but I don't think I have anything to add before the saying goodbye
ArPharazonV: and even that can be in retro-view
ArPharazonV: so I think I'll be waiting for the departure, since my last character developments in the Halls I did in my last post
FladrifV: I saw my name but dont understand a lot of it :-)
VardaValar1: Fladrif, the guild has a Forum
VardaValar1: Have you seen it?
FladrifV: yes
FladrifV: once...... ashamed :-)
ArPharazonV: within that Forum, there is a MeO-secton
VardaValar1: On the Forum, we have a section called Middle-earth Online
ArPharazonV: *section
FladrifV: ic
VardaValar1: In that section is the text rp
ArPharazonV: within the section, there is a sub-section about role-play
VardaValar1: It costs nothing to play, but bring your wits : )
ArPharazonV: in that section you can join our RP
ArPharazonV: I'll give a link
FladrifV: ok
FladrifV: sounds indeed cheap enough
VardaValar1: Easy to reach
ArPharazonV: ?board=MEORP
VardaValar1: type
FladrifV: and not so system consuming )
VardaValar1: click Forum
VardaValar1: Right : )
Eonwe Valar: I posted in 2 parts, the second half will take us up to the departure. Thought I'd give everyone a chance to start their day.
VardaValar1: I figured the whole guild could jump in free if they liked : )
VardaValar1: Scroll down to the MeO section
ArPharazonV: I don't have anything to do on my day before saying goodbye at the point of departure itself
Eonwe Valar: or rather, I will post in two parts, part one of which is there, part two of which is coming.
ArPharazonV: so I'll just wait until the point of departure, say my last goodbyes there, and we can be on our merry way
VardaValar1: We are about to leave Mirkwood with an escort, if you'd like to join in as a Mirkwood elf
VardaValar1: We are headed to Erebor, if you'd like to join in as a Man or Dwarf
FladrifV: :-) no posibility for a lost ent?
ArPharazonV: an Ent-wife, perhaps ;-)
VardaValar1: We had a great bird
VardaValar1: Maybe an ent out looking for entwives who would love to visit Lothlorien
FladrifV: sounds good :-)
VardaValar1: We will have to go by Lothlorien and to the Dimrill Stair to follow the book : )
ArPharazonV: I just read ents don't cross the border to Lorien...
VardaValar1: But how do you travel with us?
Eonwe Valar: Would an ent travel with a group of elves, men etc?
FladrifV: indeed troublesome
ArPharazonV: or carry us on your shoulders ;-)
VardaValar1: He might talk to the mallorns from across the border
VardaValar1: You don't have to play your guild character in the rp : )
VardaValar1: I'm playing an Elf, not a Valie
ArPharazonV: hey, I'm an Elf... is that not saying enough ;-)
FladrifV: cant I join as a talking spider? :-)
aranfinwe: time for me to leave..
aranfinwe: namarie all
VardaValar1: We might perf you
FladrifV: namarie
ArPharazonV: Namarie
VardaValar1: Namarie!
HeruRasa: namarie
VardaValar1: So it might be a short join
aranfinwe has left the room.
ArPharazonV: I tamed a wolf, so why not a spider?
VardaValar1: We fought a bunch of spiders recently and might mistake you for one
ArPharazonV: or you can be a squirrel
FladrifV: is there a lack of a ability in the group yet?
VardaValar1: We had a time getting rid of your wolf. Are you taming Fladrif as a spider?!
VardaValar1: We lost our dwarf. Arathorn disappeared into the maw of WoW
ArPharazonV: taming? don't think so... but if a wolf can be nice, so can a spider
ArPharazonV: ah, so that's why Haran left
VardaValar1: The problem is that our party does not recognize they are nice and will probably kill them first
ArPharazonV: I was under the impression he wanted his own sidequest :-)
VardaValar1: Arathorn thought he might suddenly lose connection at any time
VardaValar1: He could not be sure when he would have to drop abruptly
FladrifV: ok Ill be a bird send out by fladrif to find the endwives
VardaValar1: Why would you bother with us?
ArPharazonV: 'I'm like a bird...'
VardaValar1: My hair isn't that twiggy
Eonwe Valar: I hardly think a spider is going to get a chance even from Mirkwood Elves. Not with the Spiders they deal with consistently.
VardaValar1: Afraid Eonwe is right
VardaValar1: As a Mirkwood elf, I would shoot you on sight, if you are a spider
ArPharazonV: so, what do we have then?
FladrifV: /me never played any rpg like this :-)
Eonwe Valar: Wolf really was stretching.
VardaValar1: Would you like to play a dwarf or elf or man?
ArPharazonV: spider, wolf, bird... Beorning?
FladrifV: I prefer something not too human
VardaValar1: Beorning would have been easier earlier
Orodreth V: I must depart.
VardaValar1: Our dwarf was really different from the rest of us
Orodreth V: Namarie.
VardaValar1: Namarie Orodreth!
Eonwe Valar: all the Free Peoples are "human" :}
ArPharazonV: Namarie!
FladrifV: but A dwarf is good :-)
FladrifV: namarie
Orodreth V has left the room.
VardaValar1: An Elf is not human and I am in the market for a brother : )
ArPharazonV: my brother is staying behind... but he'll have his own adventures
FladrifV: ok dwarf or elf
FladrifV: elf maybe most reasonable seen from the location
VardaValar1: You might want to look at it and see how the story line is going
VardaValar1: You could also be a friend or relative of Haran's, or a dwarf we meet since we are headed to Erebor
VardaValar1: You could decide an elf-heavy party needs your good advice ;-)
FladrifV: I will think about
VardaValar1: Have fun
ArPharazonV: a Dwarf heading towards us asking for help... 'Erebor under siege!'
VardaValar1: Lots of possibilities!
Eonwe Valar: Don't think Erebor was under seige yet.
VardaValar1: But remember this is Tolkien
FladrifV: it will wtart with you become aware of something is looking at thou
ArPharazonV: yeah, allright
FladrifV: wtrat = start
VardaValar1: We are at the time when Elrond sent out scouts to check the roads for the Fellowship
ArPharazonV: hmm.... that brings up a random thought I had
ArPharazonV: how big, in Geography, will MeO be?
VardaValar1: I have ten of those a minute, Phar
VardaValar1: Have you looked at the MeO pages yet, Phar?
ArPharazonV: I was thinking about making my home in the forests of the Sea of Rhun, as an Elf, if I ever decided to join
VardaValar1: The first part has all the area on the west to the mountains
ArPharazonV: not extensively, no, I figured one of you might know this of the top of the head
ArPharazonV: *off... you figure out which one
Eonwe Valar: Since they wiped the FAQ's and little is certain anymore, no one really knows
VardaValar1: The expansions will add all of Middle-earth
VardaValar1: It used to include the mountains between Rivendell and Mirkwood
Eonwe Valar: However, they originally intended only to have from The Tower Hills (coastal region) to THe Misty Mountains, east to west
ArPharazonV: I'm going to swim in the Sea of Rhun... I just know it
Eonwe Valar: in the first release
VardaValar1: We can push you if you like, Phar
ArPharazonV: heh
Eonwe Valar: up to the Northern mountains and down to I don't remember where
VardaValar1: They used to show it on the Kinship map
Eonwe Valar: but not much more geographically south that the Shire I don't believe.
ArPharazonV: I've always been interested in that far eastern part... the Sea and the Forests of Rhun
ArPharazonV: so many holes
Eonwe Valar: We've still got a copy on the Forum.
ArPharazonV: so many stories to create
VardaValar1: You will have to wait for the later expansions for that
VardaValar1: Copy, not URL? Let's check it then : )
Eonwe Valar: With the changes, there may even be a miniscule chance I'll get to be a Noldo in the game, hehe.
ArPharazonV: the most I heard was that the first Houses of Men travelled on both sides of the Sea, and therefore their language varied a little...
VardaValar1: We can hope : )
VardaValar1: It looked like just Tower Hills elves to start
Eonwe Valar: Btw, I recommend anyone keeping an eye on MEO to check out the new developer diaries.
: they technical diaries or what?
Eonwe Valar: Not really technical, but they give insight to what's going on and such, depending on what the person who writes it is willing to reveal at that time.
Eonwe Valar: ok, scratch that, we don't have a complete map, only a closeup on the area we were looking at.
: ah, I enjoy reading indie game devs journals -- they're technical :-)
Eonwe Valar: Give the MEO ones a try.
ArPharazonV: yeah, Eonwe, just saw it in the thread
ArPharazonV: the first thing I thought was... are we settling just west of Dol Guldur?
ArPharazonV: and then I looked a little better, and saw I was looking at the wrong end of the arrows :-)
Eonwe Valar: hehe
VardaValar1: Fladrif, if you are still with us, you might check the section on the side with our comments on the game
  has left the room.
VardaValar1: We do those outside the game and it works well
  has entered the room.
FladrifV: ok
FladrifV: sorry was playing q3 for a short time
FladrifV: :-)
FladrifV: was only testing but ended in playing...
VardaValar1: hehe
VardaValar1: Sounds like a good test
ArPharazonV: man, I do really need to start posting in the rp again... I just lost my fifth place in post-counts to Elatan, and he's not even participating at the moment!
VardaValar1: I caught up on the story, just now guys
VardaValar1: Can't have that, Phar : )
Eonwe Valar: Tsk tsk it's not a race :}
Eonwe Valar: Just because I'm in the lead.. :}
VardaValar1: uh huh ;-)
ArPharazonV: it was always so that the five regular rp-ers stood on top of the list... and now I'm sixth....
VardaValar1: We will be happy to let you post!
ArPharazonV: heheh
ArPharazonV: I just need stuff to say
ArPharazonV: so get that fourth part underway!
Eonwe Valar: afk for a few
VardaValar1: I will probably say bye to my folks and hang out around our starting point, which is probably the stables
VardaValar1: It is up, Phar
VardaValar1: Part 4 is up
ArPharazonV: I know
FladrifV: may I introduce a new spiecies?
VardaValar1: No gulhuine
ArPharazonV: but I don't really have anything to prepare for
VardaValar1: Why?
VardaValar1: We really are trying to be Tolkien as much as possible
FladrifV: ok
VardaValar1: Looks like regular canopy dark, but why so quiet
ArPharazonV: I was thinking of getting up nearly too late.... seeing as it was some time later I went to bed the night before...
VardaValar1: As a girl, all I can do is knock on your door. The others will have to come yank you out by the foot!
ArPharazonV: but introducing coffee in one lotr-rp is more than enough :-)
VardaValar1: Tea has caffeine : )
ArPharazonV: hmm... what was it again... lemme find the thread
ArPharazonV: my very first rp, Orodreth made it on the blizzforums
VardaValar1: Might have to bring it over from the West
VardaValar1: Hidden in a secret garden in Rivendell or Lothlorien?
ArPharazonV: A door opened in the wall of the local tavern, and Caladreth came out.
ArPharazonV: (Caladreth being me)
VardaValar1: We could splash you with cold water
ArPharazonV: "Sorry I'm late, fellas," he shouted to his comrades, "but I was exhausted when I left my room, and wanted to drink some of that new brown stuff they just invented first. I didn't get too much sleep tonight."
ArPharazonV: He swiftly looked around him, energized by the large amounts of caffeine he had just consumed.
VardaValar1: Keels over as the coffee high wears off : )
ArPharazonV: results: a later post:
ArPharazonV: Caladreth, eager to spend his energy, rushed into the tavern, to his room, and picked up his bag, which he had completely packed the day before.
ArPharazonV: He threw it over his shoulder, and went out. He ran into the local armory, paid the blacksmith, and put on his armor in the nearby bathroom.
ArPharazonV: It was a beautiful hard-leather armor, with an iron shield, helmet and sword.
VardaValar1: Bathroom?
ArPharazonV: The sword Caladreth put in the belt of his pants, the shield he flung over his back, and the helmet he put on his head, before running out of the blacksmith.
ArPharazonV: All of this had taken only five minutes, he was still affected by the coffee.
ArPharazonV: Bathroom, aye...
ArPharazonV: how many years after lotr was this again?
ArPharazonV: 1596 S.R.
ArPharazonV: (56 years after the passing of King Elessar and the departure of Legolas and Gimli)
VardaValar1: I think you can get dressed in the Armory anyway
ArPharazonV: I needed privacy
ArPharazonV: for some reason
ArPharazonV: it's been too long, can't remember...
VardaValar1: We helped guys get armor on in the armory or outside by the tourney field
ArPharazonV: this was November 2003
ArPharazonV: I hadn't even been a member for 2 months
VardaValar1: Maybe Rivendell is upscale enough to have cisterns and wells. That could allow some form of plumbing
VardaValar1: It was an amusing post, Phar : )
VardaValar1: Thanks for sharing it : )
ArPharazonV: lemme see, where was this...
ArPharazonV: p?t=30403&page=5&pp=15 btw
Menelvagor Valar has entered the room.
Menelvagor Valar: Aiya
VardaValar1: Aiya!
VardaValar1: We were just discussing the rp : )
Menelvagor Valar: sorry I'm late
ArPharazonV: Aiya
Menelvagor Valar: cool, more RP :-)
VardaValar1: That will make the transcript more interesting to you : )
VardaValar1: But we won't have your handy times on this one
Menelvagor Valar: I just got home from a LARP weekend
VardaValar1: Congrats!
ArPharazonV: ah, it was at Minas Tirith, it seems
Menelvagor Valar: Megacool, but totally exhausting
VardaValar1: Eonwe started Part 4 of the rp
ArPharazonV: did Minas Tirith have indoor-plumbing?
VardaValar1: It does not say : )
VardaValar1: May have had lots of night soil carts
Menelvagor Valar: I'll look into it.... uhm... the day after tomorrow, since tomorrow I will most likely spend in a comatose state
VardaValar1: hehe
ArPharazonV: heh
Menelvagor Valar: to put it simple, I'm hammered
Menelvagor Valar: just here to show my face :-)
VardaValar1: We'd be glad to have your words when you get around to it
VardaValar1: Thanks!
VardaValar1: Now we know you are ok and had fun! : )
Menelvagor Valar: I will try to get a detailed report in on the event during the week
VardaValar1: I was thinking about calling it a night
VardaValar1: cool! Forum report?
Menelvagor Valar: that would do :-)
VardaValar1: Be sure to copy it before posting in case it times out!
Menelvagor Valar: under Community General, or under General?
VardaValar1: Save you a lot of typing
ArPharazonV: calling it a night? I still had some minor Tolkien-facts I found in UT...
VardaValar1: ok Phar
Menelvagor Valar: was intending to put it in draft first anyways :-)
VardaValar1: Tolkien:
VardaValar1: I'll see if I can find where to put it on the Forum
VardaValar1: It has no Tolkien relation, but is all gaming?
Menelvagor Valar: all gaming
Menelvagor Valar: and well, it is fantasy, so has some distant connection to Tolkien, but no direct link :-)
VardaValar1: I thought we had a section for Other games
Menelvagor Valar: I'll check
VardaValar1: eluding me
Menelvagor Valar: general game talk
Menelvagor Valar: right under community and above WotR
VardaValar1: Games/General Game Talk
VardaValar1: Aye, just below Community
VardaValar1: That should cover it : )
VardaValar1: Phar, you have your UT info handy?
ArPharazonV: well, just a few trivia... don't need references or something, I'll just pass them on to you in IM
VardaValar1: Pass them in here, please : )
VardaValar1: This is the place for it and the time :-)

VardaValar1: Tolkien:
ArPharazonV: oh, ok
ArPharazonV: first?
Menelvagor Valar: yep, your floor :-)
VardaValar1: You spoke first, aye
ArPharazonV: well, in the section about the Palantiri, I found something I hadn't anticipated...  [Unfinished Tales]
Eonwe Valar: back
ArPharazonV: it says the smaller palantiri were at least 1 foot tall
ArPharazonV: and the bigger ones were too big to be lifted by one person
ArPharazonV: so I really think they underestimated the size in the movies ;-)
Menelvagor Valar: which is 30 centimeters, just about as large as shown in the movies
ArPharazonV: really? I thought the ones in the movie were a lot smaller
Menelvagor Valar: the settings make them seem smaller though
VardaValar1: About like a bowling bowl
ArPharazonV: like 20 at most
ArPharazonV: but then again, my depth- and size-perception isn't all it should be...
VardaValar1: Now we have to look at the movie again, but it seemed pretty close in my memory, which is like a steel sieve.
Menelvagor Valar: it's not like Denethor can fully grasp the entire ball with both his hands
VardaValar1: Even Aragorn had to use two hands
ArPharazonV: in the movie we didn't even see Denethor's palantir
Menelvagor Valar: same with a bowling ball, there is a large gap between where the 2 hands are placed
ArPharazonV: but I thought the palantiri were a lot smaller... oh well, must be my mistake then
ArPharazonV: the other fact was in the chapter of the Istari
Menelvagor Valar: me is sleepy head, garbling up memories, sorry for that :-)
VardaValar1: Maybe because you think of them as gems and most gems are small
ArPharazonV: it claims that Legolas achieved the least of the Nine Companions
VardaValar1: Easier to wear
ArPharazonV: again, a fact that PJ seems to have sorely miscalculated :-)
VardaValar1: Where are we, Phar?
Menelvagor Valar: Istari
VardaValar1: During the actual journey maybe?
VardaValar1: Not sure how Gimli did more though
ArPharazonV: right, that was what I was thinking as well
VardaValar1: He shot down a Nazgul, not bad!
VardaValar1: a flying one at that
ArPharazonV: and did Pippin do more than Legolas, for example?
Menelvagor Valar: and he shot the cave troll in moria
ArPharazonV: lol
VardaValar1: Well, Pippin was part of what got Fangorn and Sauron moving
VardaValar1: Cave troll in Moria was PJ
VardaValar1: In the book, they avoided it
VardaValar1: Frodo stabbed it in the foot, it retreated, the group ran before it returned
Menelvagor Valar: claiming sleepy head once again :-P
ArPharazonV: in the movies, Legolas took out the cave-troll, and a mumakil all by himself
VardaValar1: Go right ahead.
VardaValar1: The books did not say how the mumakil were taken out
VardaValar1: It does not actually contradict PJ there
ArPharazonV: but it is hard to believe one Elf taking out an entire 'undamaged' mumakil and passengers
VardaValar1: It only has one line where they tell Sam the oliphaunts were all killed
VardaValar1: I enjoyed it in the movie and they showed how it could be done with enough arrow handholds ;-)
ArPharazonV: :-)
VardaValar1: Chopping the girth strap worked for me ;-)
ArPharazonV: not to mention Legolas jumping spectacularly on a horse in Rohan, considering he had a broken rib at the time...
Menelvagor Valar: too bad they didn't have those snowspeeders a la Star Wars available to take out the AT-AT like mumakil
VardaValar1: If you are sitting on a horse, the saddle is held on by the girth strap. Cut that, the saddle and you go over.
VardaValar1: But Legolas did not have a broken rib and should have been a skilled bareback rider. I would expect rather like an Indian
ArPharazonV: well, Orlando had a broken rib at the time :-)
ArPharazonV: just like Aragorn had 2 broken toes, I think
ArPharazonV: and a chipped tooth
Menelvagor Valar: anyways, I did what I had to do before crashing down into a coma, smoke a cig, grab a bite, show my face (not necessarily in that order :-))
ArPharazonV: ok, g'night Menel
Menelvagor Valar: g'night
ArPharazonV: happy coma
ArPharazonV: sweet hallucinations
Menelvagor Valar: I'll read the script when it becomes available (so I'll be watching the link again)
VardaValar1: hehe - Namarie
VardaValar1: Aye, about Viggo
Menelvagor Valar: Namarie
Menelvagor Valar has left the room.
VardaValar1: Script is up
VardaValar1: We have had the movie script link up on the Links page for quite some time
VardaValar1: Even a mention in the Forum
VardaValar1: I guess he meant the transcript
ArPharazonV: aye, I saw that recently.... coincidence or not? can't remember when I saw it
VardaValar1: It was not long ago
VardaValar1: The transcripts aren't perfect, but I linked to the best ones I saw
VardaValar1: Better to enjoy the movies again ; )
ArPharazonV: yup
ArPharazonV: especially now that I can watch it on tv
VardaValar1: I have heard that bit about Legolas achieving the least
VardaValar1: I think it was really that he had the least written about him
ArPharazonV: well, it was mentioned in UT...
VardaValar1: Aye
VardaValar1: I have read it there too
VardaValar1: But that might be why
VardaValar1: He was neglected by the writer
ArPharazonV: and Gimli did beat his kills by one ;-)
VardaValar1: I wonder if he was struggling not to write about the elf, since he was so into elves in the Sil
VardaValar1: aye : )
ArPharazonV: hmm... nice theory
VardaValar1: I read a good fanfic suggesting Legolas threw the match
ArPharazonV: lol... to blow up the wall?
VardaValar1: that he had a lot of kills during the "knife work"
VardaValar1: heheh
VardaValar1: Little goof there, getting rid of Aragorn's pipeweed while lit. See, I'll make up one on the spot
VardaValar1: Even Gimli in the books gets his lineage spoken of for way back
ArPharazonV: so that's why the wall blew up.. it wasn't some berserker with a torch after all
VardaValar1: Shows how he is related to the line of Durin and others
VardaValar1: hehe - I'm just pulling Legolas' leg since Gimli isn't here to do it
ArPharazonV: Legolas had a grudge against Gimli, and decided to detonate Saruman's explosives in order to incapacitate his rival
VardaValar1: In fact, it was Gimli who hid his own smokes and caused it
VardaValar1: Oh we have fun : )
ArPharazonV: and Gimli came out the next morning with a bandage on his head, and Lego thought.... 'dang, orcs, couldn't you have cut any deeper?'
VardaValar1: Arwen is asking me to get Eowyn for her, brb
VardaValar1: heh
VardaValar1: back
ArPharazonV: Aiyata
VardaValar1: Thanks
VardaValar1: So what did Legolas do that is not much?
ArPharazonV: what did he do that is not much? uhm... breathing? walking? eating?
VardaValar1: For hobbits, eating was a Feat
ArPharazonV: heh
ArPharazonV: especially if you do it six times a day
VardaValar1: Comparing them all, I think Gimli and Legolas were about even
VardaValar1: A lot of what they did was to bring the Elves and Dwarves together, make new colonies for their people, and help Aragorn with the Reunited Kingdom
ArPharazonV: hahah! I passed my re-exam for the Iron Age! not even with the lowest grade!
ArPharazonV: ok, back on-topic
VardaValar1: I'd say that Gimli did melee with Legolas doing the distance shooting mostly and some knife work
VardaValar1: Congrats!
ArPharazonV: Iron Age... sounds so much more impressive in English than in Dutch... guess I've been playing too much AoE...
VardaValar1: In "Medieval Archery", it says the archers were looked down on in fights because they were not hand to hand
VardaValar1: but they were terribly dangerous
ArPharazonV: hmm...
VardaValar1: They scared the melee guys
ArPharazonV: perhaps I should start using crossbows then in BfME ;-)
VardaValar1: They could take out numbers from a distance
VardaValar1: hehe
VardaValar1: I have an archer in WoW
VardaValar1: She doesn't need great armor because they have to reach her : )
ArPharazonV: I usually go pure melee and pike, so far... hasn't been a problem yet, because they don't have air yet
Eonwe Valar: Give me a row of orc necks :}
VardaValar1: There you go, Eonwe!
VardaValar1: Put Eonwe in front for a meat shield and I'll mow them down!
ArPharazonV: but I think to recall the crossbows took up either twice as much food or twice as much resources...
ArPharazonV: oh well
VardaValar1: Noldor to the front!
ArPharazonV: my popu-limit grows with every territory I own, already on 400
VardaValar1: I have not seen a way in WoW to make bows or arrows
ArPharazonV: which means 200 Uruk-hai at once ;-)
VardaValar1: Tough finding new bows
VardaValar1: oops. Lot of Uruks!
ArPharazonV: heh, you'd think say
VardaValar1: So what did Legolas and Gimli do?
ArPharazonV: but they all died on the first attack on Edoras
ArPharazonV: *think so
ArPharazonV: I just got Lurtz out... man, heroes are good in that game
VardaValar1: They acted as guards, protection for the hobbits and the King
Eonwe Valar: Engineers can make guns, but that's all I think that can be made by players as far as ranged goes
VardaValar1: (Tolkien did not write Lurtz, just to bug you)
ArPharazonV: yeah, I know
ArPharazonV: but they based the game on the movie
ArPharazonV: and because I play the evil campaign, I've kept Lurtz alive
VardaValar1: It would be faster and therefore better gaming
VardaValar1: That could be a problem in MeO
VardaValar1: They want to base it on the books which are much slower
ArPharazonV: while killing Treebeard, Aragorn, Boromir, Gimli, Legolas, Merry, Pippin, and Eowyn....
VardaValar1: And we can't play bad guys last I heard
VardaValar1: You fink!
ArPharazonV: and I haven't even attacked Helm's Deep yet!
VardaValar1: It's toast if you took out the heros
VardaValar1: Watch for Eomer
Eonwe Valar: As far as we know, they're still going with starting it after the Fellowship has left Moria, so things are picking up in the time frame we're going to be in.
ArPharazonV: Eomer and Theoden are probably my Helm's Deep-targets
ArPharazonV: after that, it's probably onwards toward Gondor
VardaValar1: I am already playing Fainan and you Auros in WoW so we are getting ready!
ArPharazonV: I killed Eowyn in my first attack on Edoras
VardaValar1: (Eowyn waves and says she's fine)
ArPharazonV: I killed all those Fellowshippers at Amon Hen
Eonwe Valar: I like WotR, but the map editor is barely on par with WC2's editor. Now if I can find a way to pull some of the elven graphics from WotR and put them in WC3,...
ArPharazonV: (too bad Frodo and Sam got away)
VardaValar1: haha! You're toast! They are the ones who matter
ArPharazonV: and I killed Treebeard in Fangorn Forest
ArPharazonV: first I had to clear Isengard of enemies
ArPharazonV: then I conquered Fangorn, and slew Treebeard
ArPharazonV: after that, I took out the eaves of Fangorn
ArPharazonV: then, I got to play Amon Hen with Lurtz
VardaValar1: If Sauron the Evil had not come home from work, I'd go play WoW : )
VardaValar1: Guess Eonwe will have to do it for me
ArPharazonV: after the death of 7 of the 9 companions, I took down the Gap of Rohan
ArPharazonV: after that, the center of Rohan
VardaValar1: Not the store!
ArPharazonV: and now, Edoras :-)
ArPharazonV: where I've already killed Eowyn
VardaValar1: Next, Starbucks of Gondor!
ArPharazonV: Osgiliath: City under the Starbucks
VardaValar1: hehe
VardaValar1: Was that all the UT stuff you wanted to comment on?
VardaValar1: How about the Elessar stone?
ArPharazonV: well, I was gonna talk about the Fords of Isen
ArPharazonV: again, evidence that PJ paid no attention whatsoever to UT...
VardaValar1: I thought you made interesting comments so far
VardaValar1: Hey, he left out the Scouring of the Shire for that matter
ArPharazonV: Theodred died right after the first battle, and was hastily buried under a mound on the eyot in the middle of the stream
VardaValar1: Just a bit in Galadriel's mirror
ArPharazonV: he was not taken to Edoras
VardaValar1: True. They added the Theodred bit to have more characterization
VardaValar1: Helped with transition for Eomer
ArPharazonV: they also took out Grimbold (except for a small minor mention), Erkenbrand, and Elfhelm
VardaValar1: I thought we were lucky they didn't make Eomer and Eowyn into Theoden's kids : )
ArPharazonV: heh
ArPharazonV: I don't think they would have gotten away with banishing the King's Heir, then
VardaValar1: Fran and Philippa had a lot of input for PJ too. Makes me wonder who to blame for some of this
VardaValar1: He wasn't banished anyway
ArPharazonV: in the movie he was
VardaValar1: I know
ArPharazonV: in the book they locked him up
VardaValar1: So they could have gotten around it
VardaValar1: Eomer in the Iron Mask
ArPharazonV: heh
VardaValar1: Mixing books, sorry about that
ArPharazonV: I've seen the Movie :-)
ArPharazonV: Man in the Iron Mask
VardaValar1: Ok, so we are also mixing movies
ArPharazonV: well, at least one of the versions
FladrifV: ieks need to get up over 4.30 hours...
ArPharazonV: :-)
VardaValar1: A lot of movies are based on books. Beats starting from scratch with creativity
ArPharazonV: I don't have to get up until 9.30 hours
VardaValar1: Go to bed, Fladrif :-)
ArPharazonV: *over 9.30 hours
FladrifV: good advise :-)
ArPharazonV: good night, Flad
FladrifV: namarie
VardaValar1: Did you peek at the Forum?
ArPharazonV: btw
VardaValar1: Namarie
FladrifV: started reading :-)
ArPharazonV: our birthdays? any idea on sharing them?
VardaValar1: oh cool :-)
ArPharazonV: celebrating them on one day again?
FladrifV: its ok
FladrifV: discuss it tomorrow :-)
ArPharazonV: we'll figure it out later
ArPharazonV: aye
VardaValar1: Bye bye
FladrifV: bye
ArPharazonV: Namarie
FladrifV has left the room.
VardaValar1: Something for you to look forward to, Phar
ArPharazonV: my birthday's on the sixth of May, his is on the 10th
ArPharazonV: last year we celebrated them together on the 8th
Eonwe Valar: In his defense, PJ had license to make a movie based on LotR, not on UT. Response to earlier comment. Have my attention divived between this and some school related stuff.
VardaValar1: Our two new members who said they were interested in the rp did not show up today
VardaValar1: Sounds fun
Eonwe Valar: *divided even
VardaValar1: LotR is what he should have based it on
ArPharazonV: well, to be fair
ArPharazonV: he did base it on Lotr
VardaValar1: Also, he may have used it for the info on the Palantir size
HeruRasa: I have been invited to a raid to BRS, gonna head out
VardaValar1: BRS?
HeruRasa: Black Rock Spires
VardaValar1: Thought you were on WoW by now : )
VardaValar1: Have fun. Sauron is in WoW too
HeruRasa: I was sitting there
VardaValar1: Namarie!
ArPharazonV: Namarie
HeruRasa: Namarie
HeruRasa has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: Well, depends on what the movie license said. The rights aren't owned by Tolkien Enterprises, who licenses for MEO.
VardaValar1: They sold them to New Line?
Eonwe Valar: But the MEO license stipulates only things from LotR, so "officially" ruling out stuff from the Sil and from the Histories.
VardaValar1: ouch
Eonwe Valar: Tolkien sold them long ago.
ArPharazonV: ruling out stuff from the Sil?
VardaValar1: That's how I heard it
ArPharazonV: like Galadriel and Elrond? ;-)
VardaValar1: Well, that would just mean they use LotR for canon ahead of other info
Eonwe Valar: I assume the Rankin-Bass and Bakshi renditions are based on the same (movie) license, which in turn was eventually used for the movies.
VardaValar1: Tolkien got to spend money from the movie rights which pleases me
ArPharazonV: he did?
VardaValar1: Most likely
VardaValar1: Yes
ArPharazonV: JRR?
VardaValar1: It wasn't as big a sum as it would be now, but he was alive then
VardaValar1: Aye
ArPharazonV: when did he sell the rights then?
Eonwe Valar: it was to pay of fa debt as I recall, but don't quote me as I don't have that direct info at my fingertips.
VardaValar1: He has a lot of scathing comments on the animated movies in the Letters : )
ArPharazonV: heh
ArPharazonV: that movie was on tv again a few days ago
ArPharazonV: the cartoon
VardaValar1: Gettting out of debt makes one feel free. I don't remember what he spent it on
VardaValar1: This would be a good time to trot out the old animated Hobbit and LotR
VardaValar1: Sell some shampoo or whatever
VardaValar1: I had better make supper
VardaValar1: Funny thing. Right now we have four computers going
VardaValar1: Fangonr brought in a laptop he's using for work from work
VardaValar1: All three home comps are in use
VardaValar1: What a world!
ArPharazonV: aye, I'll be going... gonna get some sleep before tomorrow-morning... perhaps play a few minutes of BfME first, though... ;-)
VardaValar1: Sleep Phar! Dream of BfME ;-)
ArPharazonV: I'll save transcript
VardaValar1: Thank you!
VardaValar1: Namarie
Eonwe Valar: Sleep well Pharazon
VardaValar1: Namarie to all you afk folk too
VardaValar1: All 5
Eonwe Valar: take care Varda, have fun cooking.
ArPharazonV: saved
VardaValar1: heh - thanks
