Before meeting get-together:
(3:21:20 PM) ArPharazonV has entered the room.
ArPharazonV (3:21:24 PM): back...
(3:38:27 PM) MaglorV has entered the room.
MaglorV (3:38:32 PM): Aiya
ArPharazonV (3:38:38 PM): Aiya
ArPharazonV (3:38:57 PM): hm... not much info for a pre-meeting today...
MaglorV (3:39:09 PM): hehe, o well
MaglorV (3:39:47 PM): Im probably not gonna be checking this chat much until the
meeting starts anyway. I have a term paper for German to write
ArPharazonV (3:39:47 PM): M4n3nn4? yes I still have the URL
ArPharazonV (3:39:55 PM): oh, ok...
MaglorV (3:43:05 PM): you'd be surprised how hard it is to find information
about the history of Berlin. Tons of pages about the history of the Berlin Wall,
but not much about the city itself...
ArPharazonV (3:43:21 PM): I'll help search ;-)
ArPharazonV (3:43:59 PM):
http://www.lonelyplanet.com/destinations/europe/berlin/history.htm
ArPharazonV (3:44:07 PM): only the last part is about the wall I think
ArPharazonV (3:44:50 PM): even better... only the first sentence of that part is
about the wall ;-)
MaglorV (3:45:12 PM): hehe, nice. Not a huge, all-encompassing history, but
it'll work. Thanx
ArPharazonV (3:47:11 PM): np
ArPharazonV (3:47:30 PM): I'll look further
ArPharazonV (3:47:58 PM):
http://europeforvisitors.com/europe/articles/berlin_history.htm what do you
think of this?
ArPharazonV (3:49:06 PM):
http://www.berlin-tourist-information.de/english/berlin-infos/e_bi_geschic
hte.html
ArPharazonV (3:49:19 PM): long live the search engine of searchalot!
MaglorV (3:49:57 PM): hehe
ArPharazonV (3:50:06 PM):
http://www.encyclopedia.com/html/section/berlinger_history.asp
MaglorV (3:50:16 PM): i think google has failed me!
ArPharazonV (3:50:24 PM): :-D
ArPharazonV (3:50:40 PM): www.searchalot.com has been my homepage for years now
MaglorV (3:51:01 PM): this is the best line i have read about a city in a long
time: "Compared to other European cities, Berlin with its less than 800 years is
considered a rather young city,"
MaglorV (3:52:03 PM): lol, really shows North Americans a thing about history
ArPharazonV (3:52:56 PM): not the native ones... they've been there for 14000
years ;-)
MaglorV (3:53:46 PM): hehe, yeah, but there is almost no recorded history, and
no buildings as old as the earlier settlement. Less physical history
MaglorV (3:53:54 PM): settlements*
MaglorV (3:54:10 PM): in Europe you can go into buildings a few thousand years
old
ArPharazonV (3:55:06 PM): stonehenge...
ArPharazonV (3:55:30 PM): a few thousand years? you'd have to go to greece, or
Rome...
MaglorV (3:55:37 PM): yeah
ArPharazonV (3:55:58 PM): look at the Maya temples
ArPharazonV (3:56:08 PM): also a few thousand years...
ArPharazonV (3:56:13 PM): well...
MaglorV (3:56:18 PM): not as old
ArPharazonV (3:56:22 PM): perhaps one and a half thousand
MaglorV (3:56:33 PM): yeah
ArPharazonV (3:56:57 PM): actually you'd have to go to Africa for the really old
ones
ArPharazonV (3:57:02 PM): piramids
MaglorV (3:57:04 PM): true
MaglorV (3:57:31 PM): stonehenge is 4000 years old though, though it doesnt
really count as a building you can go into
ArPharazonV (3:57:51 PM): well, you can step into it...
ArPharazonV (3:57:56 PM): doesn't have a roof though
MaglorV (3:58:03 PM): yeah :-)
ArPharazonV (3:58:04 PM): or actual attached walls
ArPharazonV (3:58:13 PM): or a floor
ArPharazonV (3:58:16 PM): or a door
ArPharazonV (3:58:18 PM): or window
ArPharazonV (3:58:19 PM): s
ArPharazonV (3:58:27 PM): but I say it's a building!
ArPharazonV (3:58:30 PM): ;-)
MaglorV (3:58:40 PM): hehe, my dad got to sit on top of some of the stones, that
would be cool. Too bad you cant get very close anymore
MaglorV (3:58:48 PM): :-(
ArPharazonV (3:59:29 PM): I study Archaeology, gonna specialize in European
prehistory, or continue into Paleontology...
MaglorV (4:00:00 PM): thats awesome, I would like to go into ancient European
history/archeology
ArPharazonV (4:00:10 PM): so, perhaps I could get you an appointment ;-)
ArPharazonV (4:00:15 PM): to sit on it
MaglorV (4:00:19 PM): hehe, cool
ArPharazonV (4:00:31 PM): But hey, it's just my first year...
ArPharazonV (4:00:38 PM): who knows what time will bring
MaglorV (4:01:12 PM): yeah, true. This is my first year too, i have already
changed my major and my minor twice.
ArPharazonV (4:01:30 PM): I guess you guys got a different system ;-)
MaglorV (4:01:37 PM): yeah, i imagine so
ArPharazonV (4:01:56 PM): Ok, here you can choose a major-minor combination as
well, but most people don't....
MaglorV (4:02:26 PM): ic, here you have to, but it isnt required until 3rd or
4th year.
ArPharazonV (4:02:27 PM): and changing 'major' gives a lot of problems I think
MaglorV (4:03:16 PM): so here you can change your major as much as you want as
long as you end with enough credits for your final choice
ArPharazonV (4:03:22 PM): well, we have something like that too.... though it
usually falls in 1 study, so e.g. studying 2 regions Archaeology or something
ArPharazonV (4:03:51 PM): credits? is that what I think it is?
MaglorV (4:04:08 PM): ... i dont know... what do u think it is?
ArPharazonV (4:04:19 PM): what we call ects? (or don't you know what ects are)
MaglorV (4:04:25 PM): no idea
ArPharazonV (4:04:57 PM): we get a number of courses, each one is worth a few
points, ects... a total of 60
ArPharazonV (4:05:15 PM): you have to get 30 to be allowed to stay in your study
ArPharazonV (4:06:05 PM): so you could probably change major, as long as the
remaining colleges of the new one grant you at least 30 ects, so you can
continue on them
(4:06:42 PM) ThorondorV has entered the room.
ArPharazonV (4:06:52 PM): uhm... I have a question... do Americans have
'summer-time'?
ThorondorV (4:07:07 PM): Yeah.. :-)
ArPharazonV (4:07:13 PM): was last night the night in which you had to change
your clocks?
MaglorV (4:07:14 PM): No, for each course you take (History 101, etc) you get a
certain amount of 'credits'. Normally 3 for a 4 month course and 6 for an 8
month course. You need a certain amount of credits to graduate, and a certain
amount have to be
MaglorV (4:07:18 PM): in your fireld of study
ThorondorV (4:07:30 PM): I don't know if they have on different days
MaglorV (4:07:30 PM): field*
MaglorV (4:07:55 PM): Im not an American so i wouldn't know :-). But we do in
Canada
MaglorV (4:08:22 PM): Aiya Thorondor
ArPharazonV (4:08:25 PM): so... does the meeting start in 45 minutes, or should
it have started 15 minutes ago? (±)
ArPharazonV (4:08:33 PM): Aiya Thorondor
ThorondorV (4:08:40 PM): Heya heya
MaglorV (4:08:42 PM): clocks didnt change i dont think
MaglorV (4:08:48 PM): or am i messed up?
ArPharazonV (4:08:54 PM): great... they did here though...
ArPharazonV (4:09:04 PM): that means I have a problem
MaglorV (4:09:12 PM): o, ok... 1 sec
MaglorV (4:10:06 PM): ahh, yes, Europe starts today with daylight savings
MaglorV (4:10:22 PM): Noth American on the 4thof April
ArPharazonV (4:10:35 PM): 4th of April? hm...
MaglorV (4:10:47 PM): Always first sunday in april
ArPharazonV (4:10:49 PM): so today I can spend an hour less at the meeting
ArPharazonV (4:10:56 PM): damn
MaglorV (4:11:05 PM): you have to leave early?
ArPharazonV (4:11:27 PM): let's just say... normally, in my timezone, the
meeting starts at 11 pm
ArPharazonV (4:11:35 PM): and I have to leave at 1 am, to go to bed
ArPharazonV (4:11:59 PM): today, the meeting seems to start at 12 pm... 12am...
what is it exactly? 1 hour after 11 pm
ArPharazonV (4:12:09 PM): so, I can spend just 1 hour at the meeting
ArPharazonV (4:12:14 PM): let's hope they start on time
MaglorV (4:12:19 PM): ahh, that sucks
MaglorV (4:12:26 PM): yeah
ArPharazonV (4:12:42 PM): normally, 2 hours is more than enough
ArPharazonV (4:12:46 PM): but 1 hour...
ThorondorV (4:13:27 PM): I'm off for a while then
(4:13:29 PM) ThorondorV has left the room.
ArPharazonV (4:13:38 PM): is Thorondor European?
ArPharazonV (4:13:53 PM): ah, yes... Finland
MaglorV (4:13:59 PM): yeah
ArPharazonV (4:14:11 PM): wow, it's even 1 hour later where he lives
MaglorV (4:14:54 PM): all you Europeans, somtimes i envy you... but when it
comes to coordiating with Valar, hehe
ArPharazonV (4:14:55 PM): If he went to bed at the same 'time' (depends the way
you look at it) as me, he'd have to leave today when the meeting starts... that
would suck
MaglorV (4:15:01 PM): but not*
ArPharazonV (4:15:24 PM): yeah, at that point I always envy you...
ArPharazonV (4:15:57 PM): I can't even multi with you guys at normal hours!
MaglorV (4:16:00 PM): Well im just as glad im not on the east coast too. Then
i'd always have to leave the meeting for dinnner
ArPharazonV (4:16:19 PM): :-D
ArPharazonV (4:16:41 PM): I'd place a small table in front of my pc...
MaglorV (4:16:49 PM): lol, thatd be nice
ArPharazonV (4:16:57 PM): well, actually, to my side, when I'm in front of the
pc
ArPharazonV (4:17:18 PM): anyway, so I can eat while participating
MaglorV (4:17:29 PM): Argh, its really hard for me to get motivated when i dont
want to do my homework. I never know how to start an essay, and when it is in
German it's just that much harder.
MaglorV (4:17:36 PM): hehe
ArPharazonV (4:17:44 PM): just too bad I can't sleep and typ at the same time...
or even the same place
MaglorV (4:17:51 PM): haha
ArPharazonV (4:18:08 PM): wouldn't that be great? I could multiplay all day...
MaglorV (4:18:14 PM): yeah, pull a Legolas and sleep while doing normal
activities
ArPharazonV (4:18:18 PM): and especially all night...
MaglorV (4:18:32 PM): yeah, i have always hated the waste of time that is sleep
MaglorV (4:19:04 PM): though id rather sleep than do homework
MaglorV (4:19:06 PM): :-)
ArPharazonV (4:19:20 PM): actually, I have long fantasized on splitting myselves
in many duplicates... connected by one goal, and shared knowledge and
experience... yet able for every duplicate to act independently
MaglorV (4:19:45 PM): Calvin and Hobbes style?
ArPharazonV (4:19:59 PM): I could eat, sleep, watch tv, go to college, do my
homework, read, and sit behind the pc every moment of the day...
MaglorV (4:20:17 PM): yeah
ArPharazonV (4:20:35 PM): actually, do you know the Dragonball series?
ArPharazonV (4:20:50 PM): those guys can split themselves up into multiple
duplicates
ArPharazonV (4:21:00 PM): and yet share such a link as I was talking about
MaglorV (4:21:03 PM): hehe, yeah, go Piccolo or Tien
MaglorV (4:21:11 PM): that would be cool
MaglorV (4:21:25 PM): though id rather be like Goku and be uber powerful!
ArPharazonV (4:21:30 PM): :-)
ArPharazonV (4:21:48 PM): you just have to eat so damn much....
MaglorV (4:21:54 PM): haha
ArPharazonV (4:24:22 PM): but, with duplicates, you'd probably have to balance
it out
ArPharazonV (4:24:34 PM): like having half of your duplicates sleeping 24/7
ArPharazonV (4:24:49 PM): so, in The Balance, you'd sleep half the time
ArPharazonV (4:26:46 PM): the same would go with eating...
MaglorV (4:27:15 PM): hehe, probably
ArPharazonV (4:27:16 PM): but, I'm afraid, even if I split up, not one of my
duplicates could be persuaded to spend all his time on homework...
MaglorV (4:27:29 PM): haha, that is sooo Calvin and Hobbes!
MaglorV (4:27:36 PM): did u ever read that comic?
ArPharazonV (4:27:43 PM): well, now that you mention it...
ArPharazonV (4:27:48 PM): with the cloning machine
ArPharazonV (4:28:05 PM): yeah... long time ago, in a newspaper I think
ArPharazonV (4:28:48 PM): the real one ends up doing the boring jobs :-D
MaglorV (4:29:20 PM): yeah, he also had one where he made a time machine to go
to the future, so he could get the finished homework from "future calvin" and he
hadnt done it.. a whole bunch of funny stuff
ArPharazonV (4:29:27 PM): but in my case, all duplicates would be equal... all
actually the same one
MaglorV (4:29:40 PM):
http://aa.1asphost.com/dlazechk/weekdaytimemachineforhomework.html found a site
with the whole thing
MaglorV (4:29:49 PM): hehe
MaglorV (4:29:51 PM): soo funny
ArPharazonV (4:34:28 PM): I've read it now, great!
ArPharazonV (4:35:25 PM): I lost the detailed track of the story after a few
pages, but it's excellent...
MaglorV (4:35:40 PM): yeah, i love Calvin and Hobbes
ArPharazonV (4:40:39 PM): reading about the duplicates now :-D
MaglorV (4:43:05 PM): cool
ArPharazonV (4:43:36 PM): is there a way to put them in chrono-order?
ArPharazonV (4:45:16 PM): or can you give me a few favorites to look at?
MaglorV (4:45:35 PM): crono order of all of the Calvin and Hobbes comics?
ArPharazonV (4:45:45 PM): well, yeah
ArPharazonV (4:45:55 PM): in the order they appeared
MaglorV (4:47:23 PM): hmm, i dont know of a place where they have them like that
ArPharazonV (4:47:46 PM): hm... too bad... so, can you gave me any topics that
stand out above the others?
MaglorV (4:47:55 PM): i have the books in order at my parents place... but that
doesnt really help.. hehe.
MaglorV (4:48:07 PM): ill think of some really funnny ones
ArPharazonV (4:48:08 PM): the duplicator and the time machine are excellent
comics
ArPharazonV (4:48:26 PM): reading about the aliens in the snow now
MaglorV (4:48:32 PM): all of the snowmen and snow art are great
ArPharazonV (4:49:06 PM): snowmen?
MaglorV (4:49:15 PM): yeah
MaglorV (4:49:55 PM): on the page i sent you to, go to "snow art"
ArPharazonV (4:50:08 PM): yeah, I'm at snow art now
ArPharazonV (4:50:14 PM): that the same as snowmen?
ArPharazonV (4:50:22 PM): ah, it appears so...
MaglorV (4:50:43 PM): i guess so
ArPharazonV (4:51:24 PM): snowman house of horror haha
MaglorV (4:51:31 PM): yeah
(4:51:40 PM) Eonwe Valar has entered the room.
MaglorV (4:51:51 PM): Aiya
Eonwe Valar (4:51:56 PM): Heya :}
ArPharazonV (4:52:02 PM): Aiya!
Eonwe Valar (4:52:02 PM): only 4 here so far?
ArPharazonV (4:52:18 PM): mikenowo is Arathorn, hasn't said a word for hours
ArPharazonV (4:52:36 PM): so, 3 actually present here
MaglorV (4:52:52 PM): hehe
Eonwe Valar (4:53:01 PM): hmm
ArPharazonV (4:53:03 PM): is his name really Mike?
Eonwe Valar (4:53:09 PM): figured I was the one running late :}
MaglorV (4:53:14 PM): Pharazon, snowart31 is so funny
MaglorV (4:53:23 PM): yeah, his name is Mike
MaglorV (4:53:28 PM): as far as i know...
ArPharazonV (4:53:32 PM): my name is Mike as well!
ArPharazonV (4:53:36 PM): it's a small world
ArPharazonV (4:54:02 PM): but I'm still at snowart 11...
MaglorV (4:54:14 PM): 45 is one of my favorites
ArPharazonV (4:54:26 PM): how can I get there so fast?
(4:54:38 PM) VardaValar1 has entered the room.
VardaValar1 (4:54:41 PM): Aiya!
MaglorV (4:54:43 PM): change the number in the addres field
Eonwe Valar (4:54:44 PM): heya :}
MaglorV (4:54:45 PM): Aiya
VardaValar1 (4:54:52 PM): Had to repair the LAN, but made it :-)
ArPharazonV (4:55:13 PM): Aiya
(4:55:15 PM) ThorondorV has entered the room.
ArPharazonV (4:55:18 PM): Aiyata
VardaValar1 (4:55:25 PM): Farmer says he'll be late, doing some programming
ThorondorV (4:55:27 PM): Heya and thx
(4:55:27 PM) ArathornValar has entered the room.
VardaValar1 (4:55:29 PM): Aiya
ArPharazonV (4:55:33 PM): Aiya
Eonwe Valar (4:55:38 PM): Hehe Eagle walks in as I try to invite him :}
ThorondorV (4:55:43 PM): :-)
Eonwe Valar (4:55:54 PM): That, my friends, is timing :}
ThorondorV (4:56:00 PM): hehe
VardaValar1 (4:56:01 PM): : )
ArPharazonV (4:56:07 PM): :-)
ArPharazonV (4:56:13 PM): I was just wondering...
Eonwe Valar (4:56:19 PM): Arathorn, is the mikenowo account yours as well?
VardaValar1 (4:56:20 PM): Farmer says the AIM Bridge isn't working
ArPharazonV (4:56:38 PM): how many people in this guild are called Mike in real
life?
Eonwe Valar (4:56:45 PM): (Heya Arathorn btw :})
VardaValar1 (4:57:30 PM): We once asked how many guild guys named David were in
the Bnet channel, think it was 7 : )
(4:57:49 PM) musics4me2 has entered the room.
VardaValar1 (4:57:55 PM): Aiya : )
ArPharazonV (4:57:58 PM): Aiya
MaglorV (4:58:04 PM): Aiya
VardaValar1 (4:58:07 PM): Mikenowo is Arathorn, aye
Eonwe Valar (4:58:15 PM): ok, making sure :}
VardaValar1 (4:58:19 PM): Good plan
ArPharazonV (4:58:20 PM): so, so far we have two mikes... arathorn and me
Eonwe Valar (4:58:26 PM): musics4me2 = ?
musics4me2 (4:58:30 PM): Farmer Maggot
Eonwe Valar (4:58:33 PM): Farmer Maggor?
Eonwe Valar (4:58:38 PM): Maggot even :}
musics4me2 (4:58:41 PM): heh
ArathornValar (4:58:47 PM): heh...coding.. I always put up the mikenowo ID on
the other PC ahead of time just to save the chat... never look at it until the
end (so no point in talking to it Phar! <chuckle>)
ThorondorV (4:58:48 PM): heya Farmer
Eonwe Valar (4:58:48 PM): good, trying to keep these in memory :}
musics4me2 (4:58:50 PM): The bridge is having issues
musics4me2 (4:59:02 PM): prolly AIM's TOC server is down
ArPharazonV (4:59:15 PM): incredible, Varda... you have broken my record
VardaValar1 (4:59:20 PM): The Quick Aim page helps if you want to put it in the
background, then add a display name as well as the screen name
ArPharazonV (4:59:23 PM): the smallest MeO rpg post
VardaValar1 (4:59:30 PM): Parcon, which record?
ArPharazonV (4:59:42 PM): see above
Eonwe Valar (4:59:44 PM): And still a worthwhile contribution :}
musics4me2 (5:00:10 PM): but anyways, I'll be here kinda
Eonwe Valar (5:00:26 PM): so we'll need someone to be between bnet and AiM?
ArPharazonV (5:00:50 PM): Parcon.. that's the weirdest abbrevation of
Ar-Pharazon I've heard so far
(5:01:16 PM) HuanofValar has entered the room.
ArPharazonV (5:01:20 PM): Aiya
Eonwe Valar (5:01:28 PM): Parcon = pardon :}
musics4me2 (5:01:31 PM): most likely, I'm pretty sure AIM's server is down. I'm
using their 'open' protocol and they aren't very good about fixing it when it
breaks :P
(5:01:40 PM) sauronjag has entered the room.
sauronjag (5:01:45 PM): this works too :-)
VardaValar1 (5:01:46 PM): Aiya : )
sauronjag (5:01:49 PM): Heyas (this is raukojag)
Eonwe Valar (5:01:51 PM): Heya it Lungorthin :}
ArPharazonV (5:01:52 PM): oh, pardon :-D
Eonwe Valar (5:02:00 PM): *it's :}
VardaValar1 (5:02:07 PM): Good to see you again : )
ArPharazonV (5:02:07 PM): Aiya
VardaValar1 (5:02:14 PM): Adding to buddy list
sauronjag (5:02:21 PM): my other sn isn't working
VardaValar1 (5:02:25 PM): ouch
Eonwe Valar (5:04:02 PM): Ok, guess I'll volunteer myself as "acting bridge" :}
VardaValar1 (5:04:07 PM): Meneldil is away, I think Erestor is probably at work
musics4me2 (5:04:14 PM): thanks, and I'm terribly sorry it isn't working :-(
VardaValar1 (5:04:23 PM): Hey, it's a program : )
Eonwe Valar (5:04:36 PM): np :}
VardaValar1 (5:04:39 PM): Thanks for all your aggravation with it, helping us
out
VardaValar1 (5:04:47 PM): And thanks to Eonwe for bridging
VardaValar1 (5:05:06 PM): Anyone else needing invited?
ArPharazonV (5:05:21 PM): I've got 16 people in the list... let's see
sauronjag (5:05:23 PM): erestor
Eonwe Valar (5:05:28 PM): Erestor and Demonic are invited, just need to except
sauronjag (5:05:30 PM): ErestorV
sauronjag (5:05:35 PM): ah okay
Eonwe Valar (5:05:41 PM): er, accept
sauronjag (5:05:47 PM): who is Demonic?
ArPharazonV (5:05:55 PM): someone asks that every week
sauronjag (5:06:00 PM): :-)
ArPharazonV (5:06:02 PM): and I keep forgetting the answer :-)
VardaValar1 (5:06:16 PM): Mablung
VardaValar1 (5:06:26 PM): Now write it on the back of your hand... ;-)
ArPharazonV (5:06:29 PM): Mablung... right.. next week it's gone again
ArPharazonV (5:06:43 PM): and I do shower several times a week, you know
VardaValar1 (5:06:45 PM): Put it in your display name for him
ArPharazonV (5:06:53 PM): you can do that?
VardaValar1 (5:06:54 PM): Stickys then : )
VardaValar1 (5:07:02 PM): On my old AIM now using, yes

(5:07:20 PM) gwaihirvalar has entered the room.
ArPharazonV (5:07:20 PM): Aiya
VardaValar1 (5:07:23 PM): If that doesn't work, we have Quick AIM
(5:07:25 PM) sauronjag has left the room.
ArPharazonV (5:07:25 PM): and Aiya again

ArPharazonV (5:08:49 PM): lord of the Solosimpi
ArPharazonV (5:09:06 PM): father-in-law of... Finarfin?
VardaValar1 (5:09:07 PM): Adding Fallen to buddy list
VardaValar1 (5:09:16 PM): Aiyata, Lungorthin :-)
ArPharazonV (5:09:50 PM): I've got 10 windows open, cool!
ArathornValar (5:09:50 PM): You can also add a buddy "comment" so that when you
point at people's names you see teh comment popup.. I put their Guild IDs there
musics4me2 (5:09:56 PM): 10 windows?
musics4me2 (5:10:00 PM): I've had many more :P
MaglorV (5:10:16 PM): haha, i have 11 :D
ArPharazonV (5:10:50 PM): yes, but none I can close without worrying about
consequences...
ArPharazonV (5:10:59 PM): or for abundance
VardaValar1 (5:11:04 PM): Ok, guess that's everybody that's coming for the
moment
Eonwe Valar (5:11:05 PM): ok bridge built,.. I'll just be running from one side
to the other with scrolls, so use small writing so I only have to carry a few :}
Running across a bridge with an armful of scrolls can be dangerous :}
musics4me2 (5:11:10 PM): I find that my mouse tends to go to the close button or
the delete button :P
VardaValar1 (5:11:13 PM): Thanks Eonwe!
VardaValar1 (5:11:23 PM): Let's go ahead and start
ArathornValar (5:11:26 PM): Fallen is on Quickaim...

VardaValar1 (5:12:02 PM): Aiya
suilenroc01 (5:12:06 PM): Aiya
ArPharazonV (5:12:11 PM): Aiya
VardaValar1 (5:12:16 PM): np, we have to scroll too
suilenroc01 (5:12:26 PM): afraid i don't have time to devote to this meeting :-\
suilenroc01 (5:12:32 PM): doing a 10 page report for school
ArathornValar (5:12:38 PM): Should I add this new ID to Quickaim, 'Sauronjag'
along with your other one?
ArPharazonV (5:12:54 PM): 10 page report?
suilenroc01 (5:12:59 PM): yeah
ArPharazonV (5:13:07 PM): would it happen to be about Berlin's history?
VardaValar1 (5:13:10 PM): suilenroc, I need to add you to buddy list, which
guild name?
sauronjag (5:13:11 PM): No you probably shouldn't. I made the raukojag
specifically for the guild
MaglorV (5:13:11 PM): haha
suilenroc01 (5:13:18 PM): Ecthelion-V
sauronjag (5:13:18 PM): the sauronjag is my friends sn from school and such
suilenroc01 (5:13:42 PM): and Berlin's history is a lot more interesting that
the impeachment of President Andrew Johnson
VardaValar1 (5:13:44 PM): Thanks
VardaValar1 (5:13:54 PM): : )
MaglorV (5:13:54 PM): ahh, he asks cuz thats what im doing right now
suilenroc01 (5:13:55 PM): which it is the topic i have the priveledge to write
about this evening
Eonwe Valar (5:13:57 PM): Ecthelion, could you turn off the red bar please?
ArPharazonV (5:14:06 PM): ok, this is getting very annoying...
ArPharazonV (5:14:14 PM): Varda now has it too
MaglorV (5:14:23 PM): yeah
VardaValar1 (5:14:32 PM): I only run black and white far as I know
suilenroc01 (5:14:34 PM): well, i'm requesting that i be excused (sorry about
the text but i'm not an actual AIM user so my colors are different) At any rate,
Namarie all
VardaValar1 (5:14:42 PM): np
ArPharazonV (5:14:48 PM): Namarie
VardaValar1 (5:14:48 PM): Thanks for popping by : )
VardaValar1 (5:14:50 PM): Namarie
ArPharazonV (5:14:52 PM): ah
(5:14:55 PM) suilenroc01 has left the room.
ArPharazonV (5:15:05 PM): so if Varda posts immediately after Ecthelion
Eonwe Valar (5:15:11 PM): I see
ArPharazonV (5:15:12 PM): she gets a red bar as well
Eonwe Valar (5:15:20 PM): interesting
FallenGlory (5:15:24 PM): hmmmm
ArPharazonV (5:15:33 PM): happens to nobody else though

VardaValar1 (5:15:38 PM): Member News:
gwaihirvalar (5:15:52 PM): it happens to everyone... it's a random ele ment in
the aIM system heh...
VardaValar1 (5:16:17 PM): We have an artist who has been linked to our Encyc,
now emailing
VardaValar1 (5:16:36 PM): Interested in us
VardaValar1 (5:16:48 PM): We get a lot of emails from outside, due to the Encyc
VardaValar1 (5:16:54 PM): Any member news from you folks?
ArPharazonV (5:16:58 PM): well..
ArPharazonV (5:17:12 PM): I did have a non-guildmember approaching me today
ArPharazonV (5:17:29 PM): she has visited the site, because she knew when I was
online
ArPharazonV (5:17:36 PM): and she asked me if I knew Elvish
ArPharazonV (5:17:54 PM): at least, I think it was a she...
ArPharazonV (5:18:01 PM): ah well
VardaValar1 (5:18:05 PM): So, how much do we have to know to "know Elvish"? : )
ArPharazonV (5:18:24 PM): after I said I didn't know much, he/she left
VardaValar1 (5:18:26 PM): and is it Sindarin or Quenya? : )
VardaValar1 (5:18:38 PM): You could point her to our language page anyway
ArPharazonV (5:18:39 PM): why do I think it's a she?......
VardaValar1 (5:18:44 PM): Hope? : )
ArPharazonV (5:18:49 PM): perhaps
VardaValar1 (5:18:57 PM): Any other member news?
ArPharazonV (5:19:08 PM): not here
VardaValar1 (5:19:13 PM): Then on to Web News
VardaValar1 (5:19:23 PM): Encyc has a new article
VardaValar1 (5:19:34 PM): by Thorondor, who is actually here!
VardaValar1 (5:19:37 PM): "Istari"
VardaValar1 (5:19:48 PM): Thank you, eagle : )
ThorondorV (5:19:57 PM): no problem
VardaValar1 (5:20:09 PM): It is a nice way to start off the Istari section, very
helpful
VardaValar1 (5:20:15 PM): Links page:
VardaValar1 (5:20:23 PM): Added "Tolkien Library"
VardaValar1 (5:20:39 PM): It might make a nice link from our own Book Reviews
page
VardaValar1 (5:20:52 PM): Question for the group:
VardaValar1 (5:21:15 PM): Do we want a section in Links or elsewhere telling
which movies have our LotR cast guys in it?

VardaValar1 (5:21:20 PM): Aye or Nay is fine
sauronjag (5:21:51 PM): our LotR cast guys?
VardaValar1 (5:21:52 PM): No answer means you are all afk and I can go read a
book :-)
Eonwe Valar (5:21:57 PM): You mean like Hildalgo that has Viggo Mortensen, since
he was Aragorn?
VardaValar1 (5:21:59 PM): sure, PJ's. Joke
VardaValar1 (5:22:03 PM): Aye
ArPharazonV (5:22:13 PM): It also means we don't mind, but we're not really
pushing you to make one
sauronjag (5:22:14 PM): ooh gotcha
FallenGlory (5:22:20 PM): hmm
VardaValar1 (5:22:32 PM): If anyone wants to dig them up, I could put them up
sauronjag (5:22:34 PM): nay
ArathornValar (5:22:41 PM): Personally I don't think so. They're just actors.
Most hadn't even read LoTR before they played the parts <chuckle>
VardaValar1 (5:22:43 PM): Can't get an answer from Aule for his Movies page
Eonwe Valar (5:23:14 PM): ok, as long "our LotR guys" doesn't mean we've been
capturing actors who've been in LotR and forcing them to make other films we'll
post on the internet :}
ArPharazonV (5:23:16 PM): well, some are actually fans of Tolkien
VardaValar1 (5:23:17 PM): guess he's not sure we'd be interested
VardaValar1 (5:23:23 PM): uh no, sorry
ThorondorV (5:23:25 PM): no comment.. :-)
FallenGlory (5:23:26 PM): lol
VardaValar1 (5:23:58 PM): Guess that's pretty negative, so I won't bother with
it.
ArPharazonV (5:24:06 PM): I don't want to get such an image in my head...
EXORCISM PLEASE
VardaValar1 (5:24:08 PM): Games Page:
ArathornValar (5:24:18 PM): Sure now they are... afetr they became famous from
it ... think they would have been if it was a flop :-D
VardaValar1 (5:24:27 PM): Eonwe, would you like to comment on your Games page?
Eonwe Valar (5:24:31 PM): Sure :}
ArPharazonV (5:25:08 PM): actually, Arathorn, I meant some actually read the
books once a year before doing the movie
Eonwe Valar (5:25:11 PM): With the help of the responses to my request for help
on the Webweaver Support section of the MB,
VardaValar1 (5:25:26 PM): (like the actor for Saruman)
ArPharazonV (5:25:36 PM): Christopher Lee, yes
ArPharazonV (5:25:49 PM): Is he related to Alan Lee, btw?
Eonwe Valar (5:26:05 PM): I've updated the Games Page Player pages to also load
a minilink listing that leads to certain important Guild pages, such as the
Ladder and bank pages for the D2/LoD player page
ArPharazonV (5:26:21 PM): they look kinda the same... from the outside
VardaValar1 (5:26:36 PM): important, hehe, thanks
Eonwe Valar (5:26:37 PM): I used the javascript command since it meant less
filler
ArathornValar (5:27:09 PM): He's the only one by what I've seen/heard.
Eonwe Valar (5:27:26 PM): how do you mean they look the same?
Eonwe Valar (5:27:41 PM): oh, you meant the Lees
ArPharazonV (5:27:45 PM): to a certain degree they have the same appearance...
at least in my eyes
Eonwe Valar (5:27:50 PM): Alan and Christopher
ArPharazonV (5:27:52 PM): yes
ArathornValar (5:28:20 PM): Eonwe, I emailed you a couple bugs I saw on the
games page. Not sure if you read it.
ThorondorV (5:28:46 PM): they both have grey hair yes
Eonwe Valar (5:29:11 PM): I saw, and I think I know the problem, so it'll be
fixed this week
sauronjag (5:29:16 PM): I have to go downstairs to eat, namarie all. glad I
could actually make it today! (not so much homework) :-)
VardaValar1 (5:29:23 PM): Bon appetit!
ArPharazonV (5:29:28 PM): Namarie
MaglorV (5:29:29 PM): Namarie
(5:29:38 PM) sauronjag has left the room.
ArathornValar (5:29:40 PM): okie... think I had an idea what it might be too.
Let me know if you still have any probs with it
ArathornValar (5:30:06 PM): er.. who is Alan Lee?
Eonwe Valar (5:30:12 PM): I am having problems getting the background to load
for the right frame, however, if you could give any suggestions

ArathornValar (5:30:24 PM): Artist?
VardaValar1 (5:30:25 PM): Alan is an artist, big name
ArPharazonV (5:30:27 PM): one of the major drawers of Tolkien illustrations
VardaValar1 (5:30:38 PM): aye, helped storyboard movie, famous before it
ArPharazonV (5:30:44 PM): even makes an appearance in TT :-)
ArathornValar (5:30:54 PM): heh... not a follower of the art world
Eonwe Valar (5:30:58 PM): IM me with them :} That's about it with the for the
Games Page
VardaValar1 (5:30:59 PM): Guys, Eonwe's floor
VardaValar1 (5:31:06 PM): Ok, thanks
Eonwe Valar (5:31:09 PM): *updates for
(5:31:22 PM) bnetValar has entered the room.
VardaValar1 (5:31:32 PM): Lungorthin
VardaValar1 (5:31:37 PM): left didn't he
musics4me2 (5:31:40 PM): yay, I guess they got their server up ^^
ArPharazonV (5:31:41 PM): Aiya bridge
VardaValar1 (5:31:46 PM): yay : )
VardaValar1 (5:32:02 PM): Any other Web news?
top

VardaValar1 (5:32:25 PM): Gaming News:
VardaValar1 (5:32:34 PM): Eonwe has some, go ahead : )
Eonwe Valar (5:32:50 PM): Thanks :}
Eonwe Valar (5:33:11 PM): The Guidelines for naming in World of Warcraft has
been posted
ArathornValar (5:33:30 PM): Added more uniques/sets to the D2X mod pages... busy
week <g>
ArPharazonV (5:33:31 PM): my names seem to fit...
ArPharazonV (5:33:50 PM): if K'aos isn't seen as violence or religion
VardaValar1 (5:34:18 PM): Eonwe's floor, guys
Eonwe Valar (5:34:40 PM): I think our best bet for Guild names in WoW will be to
use the same thing we're doing for Middle-Earth Online
Eonwe Valar (5:35:54 PM): Aside from meeting the names requirements, it gives a
nice uniformity across games for naming and means we don't have to guess who is
who as much :}
gwaihirvalar (5:36:06 PM): what're you doing in MEO?
ArPharazonV (5:36:15 PM): I was actually worrying about not-guild names
Eonwe Valar (5:36:20 PM): We're creating names based on our Guild name
gwaihirvalar (5:36:23 PM): a-ha
ArPharazonV (5:36:31 PM): I don't have 8 chars for nothing
Eonwe Valar (5:36:40 PM): Names with similar meanings
gwaihirvalar (5:36:43 PM): so like me using Herusil for mine, as an example...
ThorondorV (5:37:08 PM): I don't have any death's set pieces Gwai, sry
ArPharazonV (5:37:13 PM): I've got Calion in WoW... N-Elf rogue, with throwing
dagger :-D
gwaihirvalar (5:37:15 PM): heh, thanks anyways :-)
ThorondorV (5:37:20 PM): np
Eonwe Valar (5:37:45 PM): Indeed, examples are Calion/Pharazon, haran/Arathorn,
Fainan/ Varda
gwaihirvalar (5:38:12 PM): They have the copyright issue that EQ had then?
Eonwe Valar (5:38:34 PM): Somewhat
Eonwe Valar (5:38:36 PM): I think they
VardaValar1 (5:38:38 PM): MeO has more than copyright issue, has npc's since
it's a Tolkien game
gwaihirvalar (5:39:00 PM): I know, was referring to WOW
Eonwe Valar (5:39:01 PM): 'll screen out the "big" names like Aragorn and
Gandalf quite quickly
gwaihirvalar (5:39:18 PM): oh of course...
Eonwe Valar (5:39:36 PM): More obscure names might slide through, but if someone
complains they may end up having to be changed
VardaValar1 (5:39:44 PM): Tolkien estate site has a list of names not to use,
can check their link from our site
ArPharazonV (5:39:55 PM): I'd say, first one to use it, may keep it
VardaValar1 (5:40:00 PM): Tolkien estate not as rough as the moderators of
games, heh
Eonwe Valar (5:40:26 PM): I don't yet know how great a chance I'll be taking
with Auros :}
VardaValar1 (5:40:45 PM): About zilch ; )
ArPharazonV (5:40:48 PM): how about Arphy for Ar-Pharazon?
VardaValar1 (5:41:13 PM): Lots of ways you can describe him if you want to be
more serious
ArPharazonV (5:41:24 PM): he's a warrior gnome
ArPharazonV (5:41:28 PM): needs he be serious?
VardaValar1 (5:41:59 PM): Nope, just if you want a non-comic name, we can help
ArPharazonV (5:42:16 PM): for a gnome? can you think of one?
MaglorV (5:42:19 PM): I dont expect a big problem with WoW, they naming
guidlines are mainly for offensive names. I dont think anyone other than 'major'
characters (Aragorn, Gandalf etc.) will have a problem.
FallenGlory (5:42:23 PM): What's so comical about a gnome fighting hordes of
orcs and undead?
FallenGlory (5:42:24 PM): lol
ArPharazonV (5:42:39 PM): uhm.. his hight, for one thing
Eonwe Valar (5:42:42 PM): Phara
Eonwe Valar (5:42:45 PM): Pharaz
MaglorV (5:42:48 PM): They just said that if the owner of the copywrite
complains it has to be chaned
MaglorV (5:42:57 PM): changed*
ArPharazonV (5:43:04 PM): what is the Gnome naming-style anyway?
VardaValar1 (5:43:36 PM): "The Golden"
VardaValar1 (5:43:44 PM): "Tar-Calion"
ArPharazonV (5:43:58 PM): I need a fitting GNOME name
MaglorV (5:44:02 PM): hehe
ArPharazonV (5:44:07 PM): somehow, Tar-Calion won't really fit...
Eonwe Valar (5:44:11 PM): Anyway, I am done with my news :}
VardaValar1 (5:44:18 PM): Thank you, Eonwe :-)
Eonwe Valar (5:44:24 PM): Cal-Tar?
gwaihirvalar (5:44:24 PM): Well, the only place I really know of named gnomes is
dnd
gwaihirvalar (5:44:31 PM): but you REALLY don't want to go with their naming
style
VardaValar1 (5:44:42 PM): Galdor and Arathorn both have demo games posted on the
News
ArPharazonV (5:44:47 PM): ah well, Arphy it remains....
VardaValar1 (5:44:52 PM): Or go with the gnomes of Paracelsus
VardaValar1 (5:44:56 PM): or Tolkien's gnomes
VardaValar1 (5:45:05 PM): Phar is usable : )
gwaihirvalar (5:45:06 PM): Tolkien's gnomes are Elves.....
ArPharazonV (5:45:06 PM): Tolkien's gnomes are Elves
gwaihirvalar (5:45:07 PM): lol
ArPharazonV (5:45:09 PM): lol
VardaValar1 (5:45:11 PM): Noldo elves
VardaValar1 (5:45:17 PM): aye
VardaValar1 (5:45:29 PM): MeO rp still going strong
gwaihirvalar (5:45:30 PM): the amusing thing about dnd gnomes... their names are
their entire life stories :-)
ArPharazonV (5:45:40 PM): like with the Ents?
VardaValar1 (5:45:41 PM): Be like listening to an ent name
gwaihirvalar (5:45:49 PM): basically , except they talk fast
VardaValar1 (5:45:54 PM): That helps : )
gwaihirvalar (5:46:02 PM): and are nearly impossible to understand because they
talk SO fast
VardaValar1 (5:46:14 PM): We can use extras on the rp, more regulars too
VardaValar1 (5:46:21 PM): May be about to lose Dusksinger
VardaValar1 (5:46:31 PM): Any further Web news?
VardaValar1 (5:46:36 PM): pardojn
VardaValar1 (5:46:40 PM): Gaming News?
top

VardaValar1 (5:47:10 PM): Tolkien topics, anyone?
VardaValar1 (5:47:24 PM): Such as the aforementioned naming and gnomes, perhaps?
ArPharazonV (5:47:51 PM): well, could be... we're discussing the name Ar-Pharphy
VardaValar1 (5:48:38 PM): Tell us all about Pharazon in the books if you like :
)
VardaValar1 (5:48:44 PM): or
VardaValar1 (5:49:00 PM): You could hear what discussion is going on in the
Council recently
VardaValar1 (5:49:13 PM): It's Eonwe's fault, he started it : )
ArPharazonV (5:49:17 PM): :-)
ArathornValar (5:49:20 PM): >checks to see if Phar and Gwai are sharing a
central cerebral unit today...>
ArPharazonV (5:49:22 PM): sure, bring it on
ArPharazonV (5:49:48 PM): Ah, Arathorn, somebody noticed...
ArPharazonV (5:50:20 PM): actually, my lol was a reaction on the similarity of
the sentences before that
ArathornValar (5:50:31 PM): that too
VardaValar1 (5:50:56 PM): I'll let Eonwe tell it when he's ready
Eonwe Valar (5:51:06 PM): ok :}
Eonwe Valar (5:51:33 PM): I have recently come to a change in my perception of
Ea

VardaValar1 (5:52:28 PM): Eonwe is a more recent Valar, hadn't heard our
previous discussion, so this was kind of fun : )
ArPharazonV (5:52:51 PM): how recent is recent?
Eonwe Valar (5:52:58 PM): Essentially, Ea is not a geocentric universe as I once
believed. Arda is a planet within Ea and is not synonomous with Ea.

VardaValar1 (5:53:07 PM): I've been in this over 6 years, so it can be a good
way back
Eonwe Valar (5:53:20 PM): Recent is about 5 years in April :}
Eonwe Valar (5:53:32 PM): er, wait
ArPharazonV (5:53:32 PM): :-) of the six... could be seen as recent
Eonwe Valar (5:53:35 PM): 3 years I think :}
ArPharazonV (5:53:44 PM): now that's more recent
Eonwe Valar (5:53:50 PM): 5 is my total time ;}
ArPharazonV (5:54:06 PM): how long did it take to get a Maia?
ArPharazonV (5:54:13 PM): to become a Maia?
VardaValar1 (5:54:29 PM): Maia or Ea discussion to go forward?
ArPharazonV (5:54:40 PM): EA
Eonwe Valar (5:55:01 PM): Back to Ea,.. what had lead me to believe it was a
geocentric universe and synonomous with Arda (aside form others' descriptions)
is the simple definition of Ea: The World that is
Eonwe Valar (5:55:46 PM): I'll give you the quotes that changed my mind :}
VardaValar1 (5:55:54 PM): Also, Quenya imperative "to be!"
ArPharazonV (5:56:15 PM): read the Histories, entire chapters about that one
subject
VardaValar1 (5:58:31 PM): also clues in Valaquenta of the Sil, under Varda
Eonwe Valar (5:58:34 PM): "So began their great labours in wastes unmeasured and
unexplored, and in ages uncounted and forgotten, until in the Deeps of Time and
in the midst of the vast halls of Ea there came to be that hour a

Eonwe Valar (5:59:01 PM): and that place where was made the habitation of the
Children of Iluvatar

Eonwe Valar (5:59:36 PM): -Ainulindallë
ArPharazonV (5:59:37 PM): Ah... I'd love to join this discussion
Eonwe Valar (5:59:49 PM): pg 20 of Houghton Mifflin Hardback
ArPharazonV (5:59:58 PM): but thanks to summer-time, which starts earlier here
than in the USA
ArPharazonV (6:00:07 PM): I can spend an hour less at the meeting
ArPharazonV (6:00:11 PM): therefore, I must go now
VardaValar1 (6:00:22 PM): Namarie, Arphy
Eonwe Valar (6:00:26 PM): "And there was strife between Melkor and the other
Valarl and for that time Melkor withdrew and departed to other regions,...."

Eonwe Valar (6:00:31 PM): -pg 21
ArPharazonV (6:00:59 PM): see, Varda, the name works!
Eonwe Valar (6:01:34 PM): "...And seeing now his time he (Melkor) drew near
again to Arda, and looked down upon it,..."

Eonwe Valar (6:01:39 PM): -Of trhe Beginning of Days
VardaValar1 (6:01:42 PM): Used it because you like it
Eonwe Valar (6:01:52 PM): pg 37
ArPharazonV (6:01:59 PM): Namarie
VardaValar1 (6:02:04 PM): Namarie
(6:02:07 PM) ArPharazonV has left the room.
Eonwe Valar (6:02:41 PM): Goes to show there's always something new to learn :}
VardaValar1 (6:02:49 PM): They seemed able to move out from Arda's surface,
which strikes me as odd
VardaValar1 (6:03:10 PM): Maybe they had an area near it that was still
considered close enough
Eonwe Valar (6:03:10 PM): Not only from its surface, but apparetnly from its
atmosphere
VardaValar1 (6:03:13 PM): Too true
VardaValar1 (6:03:35 PM): Valaquenta also
Eonwe Valar (6:03:42 PM): This really got me thinking about where the levels of
the "airs" really fit in proportion

VardaValar1 (6:03:42 PM): Varda knows all the regions of Arda
VardaValar1 (6:03:49 PM): er Ea
VardaValar1 (6:04:12 PM): Out of the deeps of Ea she came to the aid of Manwe
VardaValar1 (6:04:33 PM): Your quotes are excellent!
Eonwe Valar (6:04:41 PM): I guess she would haveto know all the regions, having
put all the stars there
VardaValar1 (6:04:42 PM): I don't guess anyone else is here to talk?
VardaValar1 (6:04:47 PM): Makes sense
MaglorV (6:05:00 PM): lol, im here, just nothing to add
VardaValar1 (6:05:03 PM): Guess we can adjourn our talk back to Council
VardaValar1 (6:05:06 PM): ah ok : )
Eonwe Valar (6:05:10 PM): And then she went about and changed up and added to
it, all from a single point on Arda!
VardaValar1 (6:05:10 PM): Figured everyone else afk
FallenGlory (6:05:18 PM): I'd be in the same boat as Maglor
FallenGlory (6:05:22 PM): :-D
MaglorV (6:05:36 PM): well, i should be getting back to my term paper...
VardaValar1 (6:05:44 PM): Good luck with it
MaglorV (6:05:44 PM): :-(
Eonwe Valar (6:05:45 PM): So, where do you guys think the "airs" around Arda
fall?

MaglorV (6:05:46 PM): thanx
MaglorV (6:05:54 PM): namarie
Eonwe Valar (6:05:56 PM): good luck Maglor
MaglorV (6:05:59 PM): thanx
ArathornValar (6:05:59 PM): nope... we're here... just sitting round the
campfire listening
musics4me2 (6:06:06 PM): I want marshmellows!
VardaValar1 (6:06:17 PM): *passes marshmallows on sticks*
(6:06:30 PM) MaglorV has left the room.
musics4me2 (6:06:36 PM): *yummy*
ThorondorV (6:06:51 PM): I'm off from aim too.. see ya guys later
VardaValar1 (6:06:55 PM): Any of you have a copy of Sil on you?
(6:06:56 PM) ThorondorV has left the room.
Eonwe Valar (6:06:58 PM): Take care Eagle :}
VardaValar1 (6:06:59 PM): Namarie
musics4me2 (6:07:01 PM): I have a copy
VardaValar1 (6:07:10 PM): We need to use the 30 second "rule"
ArathornValar (6:07:16 PM): heh.. there was a comic in teh paper today about
"boyscout cookies".. one flavour was 'flaming marshmallows' <snortle!> :-D
VardaValar1 (6:07:18 PM): Count to 30 after saying Namarie : )
musics4me2 (6:07:27 PM): but I don't know where it is, prolly upstairs on the
book shelf
ArathornValar (6:07:41 PM): I do (Sil)
FallenGlory (6:07:52 PM): I've got Sil about ten feet away from me
VardaValar1 (6:08:06 PM): So what do you come up with for the "airs"?
ArathornValar (6:08:07 PM): ha! Mine's only 3 feet away! <snicker>
Eonwe Valar (6:09:00 PM): Aha!
Eonwe Valar (6:09:06 PM): Imen is space! :}
Eonwe Valar (6:09:10 PM): *Ilmen :}
VardaValar1 (6:09:13 PM): This Sil fell apart, gettting the other
ArathornValar (6:09:34 PM): er.. not sure I understand the question.
FallenGlory (6:09:44 PM): aye, what of the airs?
Eonwe Valar (6:09:56 PM): Earlier I had asked where you all think the airs were
located
ArathornValar (6:09:57 PM): yeah... what do you mean "come up with"?
FallenGlory (6:10:01 PM): above the clouds :-D
FallenGlory (6:10:02 PM): lol
Eonwe Valar (6:10:04 PM): one of those layers of "air" is ilmen
VardaValar1 (6:10:28 PM): Upper Ilmen
ArathornValar (6:10:29 PM): You want teh names of teh layers?
Eonwe Valar (6:10:34 PM): Ilmen, as defined in the back of the Sil, is "The
region above the air where the stars are made"
Eonwe Valar (6:10:48 PM): scxratch made
Eonwe Valar (6:10:54 PM): *scratch even
Eonwe Valar (6:11:02 PM): that would help :}
VardaValar1 (6:11:52 PM): Eru made a place for the Ainur, took them out of it
into the Void, then showed them a vision of their music unfolding
VardaValar1 (6:12:57 PM): "And amid all the splendours of the World, its vast
halls andspaces, and its wheeling fires, Iluvatar chose a place for
theirhabitation in the Deeps of Time and in the midst of the innumerablestars.

VardaValar1 (6:13:13 PM): "immeasureble vastness of the World"
VardaValar1 (6:13:24 PM): World is not always just the one planet, in its use
ArathornValar (6:14:16 PM): Hmm... 'Ilmarë' seems to be 'high-airs"...
ArathornValar (6:14:26 PM): 'Ether' even
VardaValar1 (6:14:29 PM): "this habitation set within the vast spaces of the
World, which the Elves call Arda"

VardaValar1 (6:14:38 PM): aka aether in Old English
Eonwe Valar (6:15:01 PM): Ilmarë,.. you mean Ilmen?
FallenGlory (6:15:45 PM): Ilmare is a maia isnt she?
VardaValar1 (6:16:17 PM): "the habitation of the Children of Iluvatar"
VardaValar1 (6:16:31 PM): Ilmare is a Maia, not to be confused with Ilmen
(6:16:34 PM) bnetValar has left the room.
VardaValar1 (6:16:47 PM): but the root is interesting
gwaihirvalar (6:17:13 PM): isn't 'Ar' the root for 'high, noble'?
VardaValar1 (6:17:17 PM): yes
ArathornValar (6:17:23 PM): She was a handmaiden (Maia yes) but the name also
comes up as high airs in some descriptions.. perhaps that's the meaning of the
name <shrug>
gwaihirvalar (6:17:36 PM): then yes, Ilmare is high airs, because Il would be
air, would it not?
gwaihirvalar (6:17:48 PM): or Ilm
Eonwe Valar (6:18:30 PM): thanks for clarification
VardaValar1 (6:18:33 PM): "all the regions of the air, from the heights to the
depths, fromthe utmost borders of the Veil of Arda t the breezes that blow in
thegrass"
describing Manwe's delight in Valaquenta "Of the Valar"
Eonwe Valar (6:18:36 PM): it fits
ArathornValar (6:18:48 PM): Ilmen is stated as being the region where the stars
are.. which in itself sems to be pretty high! <chuckle>... perhaps they both
mean similar
Eonwe Valar (6:19:59 PM): Was asking to make sure since Ilmarë is right above
Ilmen in my Sil :} But the translation does fit :}
gwaihirvalar (6:20:19 PM): Aye, I remember 'Ar' because I remember looking up
the meaning of 'Arwen' before at one point... and was amused to find that it
literally translated to 'Lady'(ie. 'noble maiden'
gwaihirvalar (6:20:20 PM): )
gwaihirvalar (6:20:57 PM): which makes people saying 'Lady Arwen' rather
redundant ;-)
FallenGlory (6:21:03 PM): hehe
ArathornValar (6:21:04 PM): hmmm... one of the Silmarils was the airs taken into
the airs by Eärendel.... wonder how high up? (heh)
ArathornValar (6:21:22 PM): oops... mis type there
(6:21:35 PM) Eonwe Valar has left the room.
(6:22:34 PM) Eonwe Valar has entered the room.
VardaValar1 (6:22:39 PM): The Outer Sea or "Ekkaia" encircled the kingdom of
Arda andbeyond it are the Walls of Night. Only the Valar know how wide theOuter
Sea is.

VardaValar1 (6:22:43 PM): Aiyata, Eonwe : )
Eonwe Valar (6:22:52 PM): thanks, crashed
VardaValar1 (6:22:57 PM): Looked like it
Eonwe Valar (6:22:59 PM): hmm this is a really touch one
Eonwe Valar (6:23:03 PM): touch=tough
VardaValar1 (6:23:08 PM): Held my typing until you returned
Eonwe Valar (6:23:42 PM): Ekkaia is the Outer Ocean, but specifically around
Arda, so Ilmen is beyond Ekkaia
VardaValar1 (6:23:46 PM): But this description is while Arda was properly "flat"
VardaValar1 (6:26:32 PM): ahh, here is a bit about the gift to men, not just
death
VardaValar1 (6:26:39 PM): connected though
VardaValar1 (6:27:04 PM): The Music is as Fate to everyone else, but Men could
shape their own lives

(6:27:07 PM) musics4me2 has left the room.
VardaValar1 (6:27:24 PM): They seek beyond the world, and will go beyond the
world

VardaValar1 (6:28:17 PM): but since men are set within the turmoils of the
world, they stray often

VardaValar1 (6:29:17 PM): Of their operation, everything should be completed,
unto the smallest
top

After Tolkien:
(6:29:43 PM) MeneldilValar has entered the room.
VardaValar1 (6:29:48 PM): Aiya : )
MeneldilValar (6:29:49 PM): Aiya.
gwaihirvalar (6:29:51 PM): hey
VardaValar1 (6:30:02 PM): I don't think I want to repeat all that : )
Eonwe Valar (6:30:17 PM): heya :}
(6:30:28 PM) raukojag has entered the room.
VardaValar1 (6:30:33 PM): Aiya
raukojag (6:30:37 PM): hail
raukojag (6:30:42 PM): playing d2x right now :-)
VardaValar1 (6:30:45 PM): Welcome back, Lungorthin
MeneldilValar (6:31:03 PM): How was the meeting today? :-)
raukojag (6:31:10 PM): I'll be right back as soon as this run is done
VardaValar1 (6:31:15 PM): We were still in Tolkien chat
MeneldilValar (6:31:23 PM): Ah, okay.
MeneldilValar (6:31:26 PM): What's the topic?
gwaihirvalar (6:32:06 PM): what type of run rauk?
VardaValar1 (6:32:50 PM): A guy is im'ing me about joining
VardaValar1 (6:33:02 PM): Guess chat just died?
gwaihirvalar (6:33:19 PM): chat sorta died
Eonwe Valar (6:33:53 PM): Pardon, trying the find the other names for the airs
in the back of the Sil
Eonwe Valar (6:34:10 PM): I knwo I can easily get them from Lost Tales, but
wanted the newer version
raukojag (6:35:45 PM): All right, back
raukojag (6:35:57 PM): it was a nightmare baal run, sorry
Eonwe Valar (6:36:31 PM): bah, no luck,..
Eonwe Valar (6:36:33 PM): sfk for a sec
Eonwe Valar (6:36:38 PM): afk trhat is
VardaValar1 (6:37:02 PM): I am being im'd by two guys who want to join
VardaValar1 (6:37:05 PM): man
raukojag (6:37:20 PM): :-)
raukojag (6:37:50 PM): so this AIM page and section on the webpage is really
boosting recruitment?
Eonwe Valar (6:38:08 PM): back
MeneldilValar (6:38:13 PM): Any of them happen to play WC3, Varda?
VardaValar1 (6:38:14 PM): They can grab me on AIM as well as Bnet
VardaValar1 (6:38:20 PM): One is a D2 guy
MeneldilValar (6:38:21 PM): Had an interested person -- 'Feanor'.
VardaValar1 (6:38:55 PM): On now?
MeneldilValar (6:39:16 PM): No.
VardaValar1 (6:39:26 PM): Pardon if I sigh with relief ; )
MeneldilValar (6:39:31 PM): :P
MeneldilValar (6:39:58 PM): Started playing D2 recently -- can't really say that
I liked it though. :/
MeneldilValar (6:40:12 PM): It seems so.. slow.. -,-
VardaValar1 (6:40:15 PM): Is that the expansion?
MeneldilValar (6:40:20 PM): Yes.
ArathornValar (6:40:34 PM): Well, I'm off to eat, then back to D2X mod! Closing
in on level 60.
Eonwe Valar (6:40:52 PM): congrats
ArathornValar (6:40:56 PM): AFK, for a bit.
MeneldilValar (6:41:01 PM): Howdy Arathorn -- that the mod with the female
Rohirrim and the Dunedain?
Eonwe Valar (6:41:01 PM): hf
gwaihirvalar (6:41:12 PM): among others
Eonwe Valar (6:41:32 PM): based on the drawing in Lost Tales Vol 1, the airs do
extend around Arda Flat
VardaValar1 (6:41:34 PM): Faster and more fun with friends
ArathornValar (6:41:39 PM): Yes, Meneldil... I play a Dark Elf. :-D
ArathornValar (6:42:03 PM): heh.. if any of us were on at the same time
<chuckle>
Eonwe Valar (6:42:09 PM): too true
ArathornValar (6:42:20 PM): What level are you at again Eonwe?
MeneldilValar (6:42:42 PM): I'm addicted to WC3.. -,- There are a few fun EQ

Eonwe Valar (6:42:55 PM): 84 Dark Elf and 87 Dunadan are my highest,.. got a lvl
62 Summoner in Valar Act 1`
VardaValar1 (6:43:04 PM): I'm going to need testers to help
VardaValar1 (6:43:11 PM): and I may have to leave
Eonwe Valar (6:43:15 PM): along with others from 45 Dunadan to 17 Beorning
VardaValar1 (6:43:18 PM): Any testers available?
MeneldilValar (6:43:22 PM): Can you guys give me a link to the ME mod?
Eonwe Valar (6:43:31 PM): I'm afraid not,.. was nearing my departure time as

ArathornValar (6:43:40 PM): yowza... only teh dark elf myself (lost most of the
old chars).
Eonwe Valar (6:43:41 PM): www.planetdiablo.com/vkmods
Eonwe Valar (6:43:51 PM): should be the right one
Eonwe Valar (6:43:58 PM): if not just follow the links from the Games page
ArathornValar (6:43:59 PM): AFK
VardaValar1 (6:44:06 PM): Gwaihir?
VardaValar1 (6:44:15 PM): Lungorthin?

raukojag (6:44:38 PM): I'm afraid that's at home

gwaihirvalar (6:46:31 PM): err
gwaihirvalar (6:46:42 PM): I'm too busy to do a full test on my own... but I
could help :-)
raukojag (6:47:10 PM): okay
VardaValar1 (6:47:48 PM): Gwaihir and Lungorthin could take one
VardaValar1 (6:47:54 PM): and I could take the other
raukojag (6:48:00 PM): all right
VardaValar1 (6:48:00 PM): Remember to get email!

FallenGlory (6:48:40 PM): hmm...and I passed one of these tests? :-D
VardaValar1 (6:48:43 PM): This question stuff lets us get to know them
VardaValar1 (6:48:53 PM): You must have had a good day : )
FallenGlory (6:48:59 PM): hehe
VardaValar1 (6:49:54 PM): You two want AIM?

VardaValar1 (6:50:01 PM): ok
raukojag (6:50:04 PM): sounds good
(6:50:45 PM) GaldorV has left the room.
VardaValar1 (6:53:35 PM): MaritimeMan5
VardaValar1 (6:53:40 PM): He's yours
VardaValar1 (6:53:45 PM): Pellenor Fields chat room
raukojag (6:53:54 PM): all right, although I'm in and not seeing anyone

gwaihirvalar (7:02:55 PM): you can be in two chats at once
VardaValar1 (7:08:48 PM): in three
Eonwe Valar (7:12:08 PM): I closed one to keep down lag :}
MeneldilValar (7:13:03 PM): So.. what was the Tolkien topic for today?
raukojag (7:13:15 PM): I missed it
raukojag (7:13:20 PM): had to eat dinner
raukojag (7:13:31 PM): caught them at the end saying that the chat sorta died
down :-)
gwaihirvalar (7:13:50 PM): hehe
VardaValar1 (7:16:31 PM): Eonwe's topic came from a chat we're having in the
Council for fun:
VardaValar1 (7:16:33 PM): Eonwe Valar(4:57:29 PM): Essentially, Ea is not a
geocentric universe as I once believed. Arda is a planet within Ea and is not
synonomous with Ea.
VardaValar1 (7:16:50 PM): We also got into the airs
gwaihirvalar (7:17:11 PM): oh ya
