MaglorV (5:22:50 PM): another "you know your in Valar when..."
VardaValar1 (5:22:52 PM): Erestor's birthday was Friday

ArPharazonV (5:23:17 PM): congrats... is he here?
VardaValar1 (5:23:19 PM): Sad news, Galdor's grandmother passed
away
VardaValar1 (5:23:30 PM): Don't see Erestor, probably at work
ArathornValar (5:23:38 PM): Xto maye novay Chlax?
GaldorV (5:23:46 PM): They are makeing arrangements now...
VardaValar1 (5:23:47 PM): Erestor is sick, should not have gone to

ArathornValar (5:24:21 PM): (Who has a new scarf... in

ArathornValar (5:24:36 PM): Erestor was on earlier in Bnet
VardaValar1 (5:25:04 PM): Friend list says not on now

VardaValar1 (5:25:27 PM): In channel matters:

VardaValar1 (5:25:48 PM): Some B.net block
top
VardaValar1 (5:26:18 PM): In Gaming news
VardaValar1 (5:26:40 PM): Gwaihir, aka Elrohir16 here, sent a tip on
doing WC3 clanmail
VardaValar1 (5:26:46 PM): Would you care to repeat it here?
Elrohir16 (5:27:51 PM): sure
GaldorV (5:27:57 PM): *looks around*
Elrohir16 (5:28:08 PM): Well, since Blizzard activated clanmail
Elrohir16 (5:29:01 PM): anyone IN the 'clan', our wc3 branch I mean,
can send a one line e-mail(as far as I know) to any/all, haven't quite
explored it enough to be sure, I think it might be only to all, other
members of the wc3 clan...
GaldorV (5:29:34 PM): i heard of that
GaldorV (5:29:39 PM): ..nvm
Elrohir16 (5:29:48 PM): easy way of getting messages to people
Elrohir16 (5:30:07 PM): However, you have to register an e-mail
address to your wc3 account in order for it to work
GaldorV (5:30:07 PM): (you can also send email to the registered
address of an account on b.net)
Elrohir16 (5:31:06 PM): I don't think you can just mail anyone... I think
you have to be mutual friend or within clan...
Elrohir16 (5:31:11 PM): but I'm not sure about that
VardaValar1 (5:31:41 PM): Or you can use our Member page or
Activity page and email anyone in the guild : )
top
VardaValar1 (5:32:42 PM): Any other business?
rhaated (5:32:47 PM): i have a question
GaldorV (5:32:47 PM): gamewise ?
TurgonjustTurgon (5:32:54 PM): webwise?
rhaated (5:32:57 PM): but it can wait till the end of the meeting
VardaValar1 (5:33:09 PM): In order, rhaated?
VardaValar1 (5:33:23 PM): aka Ulfang
rhaated (5:33:26 PM): well i'm trying to use the MEmod for the first time
rhaated (5:33:38 PM): and i can't get it to work. just wondering if i can
get a little help.
VardaValar1 (5:33:52 PM): who all here has installed the new ME mod
after the patch?
GaldorV (5:34:00 PM): i have not
VardaValar1 (5:34:01 PM): You can pm with rhaated if you like
VardaValar1 (5:34:08 PM): Have, have! ; )
ArPharazonV (5:34:20 PM): still haven't got DB2 :'(
rhaated (5:34:21 PM): arathorn said he can help me out
VardaValar1 (5:34:28 PM): Thanks, Arathorn!
GaldorV (5:34:29 PM): Aye i just saw that
ArPharazonV (5:34:39 PM): sorry
TurgonjustTurgon (5:34:43 PM): what I had when I had it installed
(some time ago) it had something to do with a new diablo2.exe file or
sumthin
top
VardaValar1 (5:34:46 PM): Galdor, your turn
GaldorV (5:34:55 PM): As to D2x ladder,
GaldorV (5:35:07 PM): i have 2 mules full of mathoms
GaldorV (5:35:15 PM): good stuff too
GaldorV (5:35:33 PM): Also,
VardaValar1 (5:35:34 PM): Are you having trouble finding a place for it
in the bank?
GaldorV (5:35:54 PM): I have added some useful links about the game
onto our forum
TurgonjustTurgon (5:35:55 PM): refresh my oblivious mind, mathoms?
GaldorV (5:36:00 PM): no not really
VardaValar1 (5:36:13 PM): spares, as the hobbits term them. White
elephants
GaldorV (5:36:20 PM): i was offering if anyone here wanted before i
toss it all to the bank
VardaValar1 (5:36:36 PM): pm Galdor, stuff hunters :-)
TurgonjustTurgon (5:36:47 PM): think I'll keep to my reg d2x
VardaValar1 (5:36:55 PM): Turgon, you had some web news?
TurgonjustTurgon (5:36:57 PM): die too often in there as it is :-)
GaldorV (5:36:58 PM): i will put up an arda so people can look
top
TurgonjustTurgon (5:37:19 PM): aye, not much though
TurgonjustTurgon (5:37:33 PM): Maglor and I have been working on
the WoW page last week
ArPharazonV (5:37:51 PM): link?
MaglorV (5:37:53 PM): http://www.geocities.com/maglorv/
TurgonjustTurgon (5:37:59 PM): and since he did most of the
webwork, he can have the honor of explaing what we did and what
needs to me done :-)
TurgonjustTurgon (5:38:06 PM): explaining*
TurgonjustTurgon (5:38:21 PM): be done*
MaglorV (5:38:23 PM): ok, we've got the main setup done, we have no
content as of yet.
VardaValar1 (5:38:24 PM): I will link to it from the index when Eonwe
declares it ready : )
rhaated (5:38:32 PM): wow. looks cool.
MaglorV (5:38:35 PM): thanx
ArPharazonV (5:38:48 PM): blah blah :D
TurgonjustTurgon (5:38:56 PM): we have one question about it tho
MaglorV (5:39:02 PM): lol, need to know what goes there
MaglorV (5:39:04 PM): yeah
TurgonjustTurgon (5:39:13 PM): ok, make that 2 :-)
MaglorV (5:39:30 PM): should we move it to the valar main site once its
finished?
TurgonjustTurgon (5:39:31 PM): we need some info on what to put
there :-)
MaglorV (5:39:44 PM): host it there, or keep it on geocities?
(5:39:47 PM) Shaggyjoe has entered the room.
VardaValar1 (5:39:51 PM): That would give you a free site
VardaValar1 (5:40:03 PM): Aiya Gelmir!
Shaggyjoe (5:40:05 PM): Hail and well met friends!
ArPharazonV (5:40:07 PM): Aiya
ArPharazonV (5:40:10 PM): 28
GaldorV (5:40:10 PM): Hail
VardaValar1 (5:40:25 PM): No pop-ups
Shaggyjoe (5:40:28 PM): Im sorry im late, im sorta busy,
getting ready to go to a club. : )
VardaValar1 (5:40:40 PM): You can move it there when ready, email
Alatar to get it set up
MaglorV (5:40:45 PM): ok
VardaValar1 (5:40:51 PM): Then we'll have the permanent URL
TurgonjustTurgon (5:40:55 PM): Geocities is indeed free, but it can
only host up to 15 MB of storage, and perhaps with the
Screenshots we're going t put up, that might nt be enough
Shaggyjoe (5:41:12 PM): you can link to different pages
VardaValar1 (5:41:15 PM): Might check with Alatar and consider if
you need the screenshots
Shaggyjoe (5:41:28 PM): IE, three or four of us could host the
said pages.
VardaValar1 (5:41:30 PM): Aye, that's how we can have such a huge
Valar site, many servers
MaglorV (5:41:36 PM): yeah, good idea
Shaggyjoe (5:41:46 PM): <grins> thanks
MaglorV (5:41:51 PM): we could keep screenys on a diff account
TurgonjustTurgon (5:42:46 PM): I guess we'll have to wait until WoW
hits the stores before we make a decision about this :-)
MaglorV (5:42:58 PM): i think thats all about that, other than what to
put on it as far as content.
TurgonjustTurgon (5:43:23 PM): we're rather early with making the
site, as the Beta has not even been released yet, and knowing Blizz,
it will prolly take until 2005 before they release WoW to the public
:-)
(5:43:26 PM) ErestorV has entered the room.
ErestorV (5:43:31 PM): thank you
ArPharazonV (5:43:31 PM): Aiya
ErestorV (5:43:33 PM): Aiya
GaldorV (5:43:35 PM): Mae Govannen!
VardaValar1 (5:43:36 PM): Aiya Birthday Boy : )
ErestorV (5:43:42 PM): blush
Elrohir16 (5:43:44 PM): well... GMR, a gaming magazine... has it slated
for this year...
GaldorV (5:43:50 PM): *lights candles *
Elrohir16 (5:43:51 PM): Happy belated Birthday Erestor
ArPharazonV (5:43:53 PM): congrats
ErestorV (5:43:58 PM): thank you all.
top
VardaValar1 (5:44:00 PM): We also have a site for Middle--earth
Online for Valar
ArPharazonV (5:44:03 PM): (nr 29)
Elrohir16 (5:44:06 PM): but they also have SC Ghost in that slating
too... so ya never know....
GaldorV (5:44:08 PM): *offers a slice of cake all around*
VardaValar1 (5:44:12 PM): Elatan, Eonwe, and I are messing around
with it
ErestorV (5:44:12 PM): blowing out candles
ErestorV (5:44:22 PM): hands out mugs of milk
TurgonjustTurgon (5:44:25 PM): I've learned one thing about Blizzard,
you can never slate a new game too late
GaldorV (5:44:27 PM): *glug*
VardaValar1 (5:44:28 PM): It won't be out until the last quarter of this
year
VardaValar1 (5:44:29 PM): hehe
VardaValar1 (5:44:34 PM): Aye, Turgon
Elrohir16 (5:44:35 PM): the thing with
VardaValar1 (5:44:41 PM): Vivendi puts out MeO too
ErestorV (5:44:45 PM): 8-)
Elrohir16 (5:44:47 PM): WoW is that they're ALMOST reading to beta
Elrohir16 (5:44:54 PM): they're just doing a few extra touchups
Elrohir16 (5:45:03 PM): beforehand, finishing off the Alpha, as it were
TurgonjustTurgon (5:45:06 PM): as they are doing with ALL their
games
ArPharazonV (5:45:12 PM): knowing blizzard, beta won't start until may
MaglorV (5:45:19 PM): lol, true
Elrohir16 (5:45:21 PM): I'd say end of march
GaldorV (5:45:23 PM): ot october
TurgonjustTurgon (5:45:28 PM): last time they said something like in
the last quarter of this year....
GaldorV (5:45:29 PM): *or
Elrohir16 (5:45:30 PM): that's my guess, March/April
TurgonjustTurgon (5:45:56 PM): and if I remember correctly, WC3
was put off for like a year and a half
Elrohir16 (5:46:04 PM): they remade wc3 3 times though
Elrohir16 (5:46:08 PM): that's an unusual case
GaldorV (5:46:17 PM): Some patch or another on another game...:-D
Elrohir16 (5:46:26 PM): I'd say they did a pretty fast job on wc3 all
things considered
ArPharazonV (5:46:28 PM): Earlier on, Dreadlord had Charm... I
remember
VardaValar1 (5:46:30 PM): Those of us in MeO are about to start an
rp thread there. If anyof you are interested, let me know, or post in
our Valar Guild forum
Elrohir16 (5:46:35 PM): I mean, they technically made THREE games in
that time Turgon
GaldorV (5:46:46 PM): ill look there
VardaValar1 (5:46:59 PM): About D2X or D2X Ladder, has anyone
seen the Diablo Clone in a guild game yet?
TurgonjustTurgon (5:47:16 PM): well, they are making 3 games now as
well
Elrohir16 (5:47:22 PM): no, I mean, the one division
Elrohir16 (5:47:23 PM): made 3 games
Elrohir16 (5:47:29 PM): because they had to remake wc3 so many
times
GaldorV (5:47:32 PM): No not yet
Elrohir16 (5:47:43 PM): They're actually making FIVE games right now
Elrohir16 (5:47:49 PM): 2 of which unofficially confirmed
Elrohir16 (5:47:55 PM): by people who have contacts in Blizzard
TurgonjustTurgon (5:47:57 PM): not to be offensive, but WoW is at
such a large scale, that it could hardly be called 1 game
Elrohir16 (5:48:08 PM): umm
VardaValar1 (5:48:16 PM): I would call it one MMORPG : )
Elrohir16 (5:48:17 PM): Turg... mmorpg's are no harder to code than
strategy games
Elrohir16 (5:48:24 PM): or rpgs
Elrohir16 (5:48:26 PM): or anything else
Elrohir16 (5:48:29 PM): it's just different
GaldorV (5:48:43 PM): As far as DC, it seems to depend on what ip
server your game is on, noticable by the apparent fast running of the
SOJ counter
Elrohir16 (5:48:59 PM): however, D3 and SC2 are definitely in the
works at the moment, from contacts I've indirectly got... which is a
definite fun thought to think about
ArPharazonV (5:49:09 PM): really? cool
Elrohir16 (5:49:11 PM): I mean, D3 makes sense, since Blizz North has
no project now
ArPharazonV (5:49:15 PM): SC2 is mine..
(5:49:26 PM) TheodenValar has left the room.
TurgonjustTurgon (5:49:28 PM): 1400 quests and more added every
day....?
Elrohir16 (5:49:32 PM): SC Ghost and WoW are the two primary
projects, at the moment
VardaValar1 (5:49:46 PM): Ok, are we ready to switch to Tolkien?
ArPharazonV (5:49:49 PM): 1400, yes, that's said in the Gamespy
article
GaldorV (5:49:58 PM): Well I have to run (buisness calling):-\
ArPharazonV (5:50:02 PM): Namarie
TurgonjustTurgon (5:50:03 PM): I'd say that's just a teensy wheensy
little bit more than done in WC3 and TFT and SC and BW and the
rest of Blizz's games combined
Elrohir16 (5:50:03 PM): take care Galdor
VardaValar1 (5:50:04 PM): Namarie
GaldorV (5:50:06 PM): Namarie
MaglorV (5:50:06 PM): namarie
(5:50:09 PM) GaldorV has left the room.
rhaated (5:50:11 PM): namarie
Xseanzee disco (5:50:14 PM): I actually have to go also
ErestorV (5:50:16 PM): namarie
Xseanzee disco (5:50:17 PM): Later
ArPharazonV (5:50:18 PM): Namarie
(5:50:19 PM) Xseanzee disco has left the room.
Elrohir16 (5:50:21 PM): Turgon, no it's not. But I can't stay to argue...
although I will be back shortly
ErestorV (5:50:23 PM): Namarie
top
VardaValar1 (5:50:45 PM): Say Tolkien, watch them run ; )
VardaValar1 (5:50:47 PM): j/k
ArPharazonV (5:50:53 PM): :-D
ErestorV (5:50:53 PM): hehe
ErestorV (5:50:59 PM): tolkien
ErestorV (5:51:00 PM): tolkien
ErestorV (5:51:02 PM): tolkien
VardaValar1 (5:51:07 PM): Anyone have a Tolkien topic before I bring
one up?
ErestorV (5:51:07 PM): starting a stampeed
ArPharazonV (5:51:10 PM): no spamming
VardaValar1 (5:51:11 PM): Too late, they already ran
ErestorV (5:51:16 PM): hehe
Elrohir16 (5:51:23 PM): Every game has a different quota of elements
with which to deal. MMORPGs just seem more glaring. They
however don't have worries in other areas, such as strategic balancing,
etc. However, as I said, I must run... be back in...
Elrohir16 (5:51:26 PM): about a half hour I hope
VardaValar1 (5:51:28 PM): It also is a division in the meeting
VardaValar1 (5:51:30 PM): Namarie
ArPharazonV (5:51:37 PM): Namarie
Elrohir16 (5:51:50 PM): I'm gonna leave this open though... when I get
back I'll prolly scroll and then rejoin the chat :-)
ErestorV (5:51:50 PM): namarie
VardaValar1 (5:52:16 PM): Good plan
VardaValar1 (5:52:31 PM): Erestor had better be getting his Gatorade :
)
ErestorV (5:52:40 PM): heya
ErestorV (5:52:43 PM): yeah
VardaValar1 (5:52:44 PM): heya
ErestorV (5:52:58 PM): cough cough. shiffle
ErestorV (5:53:06 PM): its snowing out
VardaValar1 (5:53:10 PM): No sneezing on the cake!
ErestorV (5:53:19 PM): just trying to blow out the cake
ArPharazonV (5:53:29 PM): yech...
ErestorV (5:53:35 PM): :-(
(5:53:49 PM) TheodenValar has entered the room.
TurgonjustTurgon (5:53:50 PM): *eats the cake before blowout
happens*
ArPharazonV (5:53:56 PM): wb
VardaValar1 (5:54:04 PM): Aiyata! (Welcome back)
VardaValar1 (5:54:16 PM): Folks, so you'll know
ArPharazonV (5:54:18 PM): Aiyata? gonna remember that
VardaValar1 (5:54:24 PM): you don't have to wait for an invitation
VardaValar1 (5:54:34 PM): You can invite yourself to Valar Guild
Meetingplace
ErestorV (5:54:45 PM): how so?
VardaValar1 (5:54:49 PM): Then say No when it asks if you want to
accept your own invitation
TheodenValar (5:55:03 PM): Hi again (anyone know an exorsist, I
belive my computer got demons or something) ;-)
VardaValar1 (5:55:26 PM): On mine, the menu at the top says "People"
TurgonjustTurgon (5:55:31 PM): sorry, but my comp had the same
thing, and did not live to see them removed
ArPharazonV (5:55:47 PM): bad sign then...
VardaValar1 (5:55:49 PM): In it, click Send chat invitation
VardaValar1 (5:56:11 PM): Be sure to type in the name of this
chatroom
VardaValar1 (5:56:20 PM): It will make up a name otherwise
ArPharazonV (5:56:30 PM): you can read the name on top of this
window :-)
VardaValar1 (5:56:43 PM): Aye, and it's on the News page and the
Quick AIM page
VardaValar1 (5:56:54 PM): Valar Guild Meetingplace
VardaValar1 (5:57:04 PM): Name courtesy of our very own Windlord
top
VardaValar1 (5:58:00 PM): Finrod was earlier noticing that we don't
have articles on the Palantir in the Encyc
VardaValar1 (5:58:09 PM): Surprised me, as much as we talk about
them
ArPharazonV (5:58:21 PM): perhaps a bit too much then
ArPharazonV (5:58:29 PM): considered written already
VardaValar1 (5:58:44 PM): Looking forward to any and all on them.
Plenty to cover : )
VardaValar1 (5:58:51 PM): Thanks

VardaValar1 (5:59:42 PM): He sent one on Belthronding, which I just

ArPharazonV (5:59:57 PM): Anduril, Sting, Glamdring and stuff?
sidviscious01858 (6:00:11 PM): They're all covered
VardaValar1 (6:00:18 PM): We have a few zillion named weapons to
write on
ArPharazonV (6:00:21 PM): and of course the 1 ring, that's a weapon
too
sidviscious01858 (6:00:56 PM): Vardas wrote a lot on the rings of
power
ArPharazonV (6:01:03 PM): oh all right
VardaValar1 (6:01:06 PM): aww, someone noticed : )
top
ErestorV (6:01:12 PM): brb
(6:01:20 PM) Eonwe Valar has left the room.
VardaValar1 (6:01:27 PM): For a general topic to watch you guys go
nuts with,
ArPharazonV (6:01:31 PM): one says brb, the other leaves...
VardaValar1 (6:01:42 PM): how about the action scenes in the book
ArathornValar (6:01:46 PM): You can also SAVE a link to this
room from the file menu (since you're all here now)...
"File; Create Shortcut" you can then use that shortcut
in the future to get here.. much simpler
VardaValar1 (6:02:01 PM): They are not just physical, some are almost
violent mental action
ErestorV (6:02:06 PM): back

(6:03:26 PM) Eonwe Valar has entered the room.
ArPharazonV (6:03:31 PM): Aiyata
ArPharazonV (6:03:34 PM): :-)
VardaValar1 (6:03:35 PM): Welcome back : )
sidviscious01858 (6:03:39 PM): I've got 1 thing on my desktop
VardaValar1 (6:03:44 PM): The meme grows...
Eonwe Valar (6:03:51 PM): thanks :} something crashed it it froze my
comp :}
VardaValar1 (6:04:28 PM): ouch
ArathornValar (6:04:28 PM): There should be a 'Create
shortcut' somewhere in you menu options... I DO have a
newer version on AIM right now, btu I did create the
shortcut a while back with an older version
(6:05:12 PM) rhaated has left the room.
ArPharazonV (6:05:13 PM): shortcut is now 1st icon of the 8th column
on my desktop
sidviscious01858 (6:05:22 PM): Heh
ErestorV (6:05:34 PM): only eight?
ArPharazonV (6:05:38 PM): Map of Azeroth on the background getting
less and less visible
TheodenValar (6:06:14 PM): wow that's the exact same spot my
shortcut got
VardaValar1 (6:06:22 PM): Still can't find it
VardaValar1 (6:06:29 PM): Ok, we're losing people badly
ArPharazonV (6:06:46 PM): 9 icons in every column
VardaValar1 (6:06:47 PM): Can we go to Tolkien now? :-)
ArPharazonV (6:06:55 PM): means: 64th Icon!
ArPharazonV (6:07:16 PM): man that's a lot
ArPharazonV (6:07:20 PM): ok, Tolkien
sidviscious01858 (6:07:28 PM): An hour in an we still havn't got to
Tolkein
VardaValar1 (6:07:41 PM): I mentioned above that there's a lot of
mental action going on in the books
VardaValar1 (6:07:55 PM): Can anyone think of any of it?
VardaValar1 (6:08:23 PM): Come on, Sauron and Frodo and Gandalf
ArPharazonV (6:08:27 PM): Frodo with the ring, obviously
VardaValar1 (6:08:33 PM): Aye
ErestorV (6:08:38 PM): gandalf with the quest
Eonwe Valar (6:08:42 PM): The Palantiri
ArPharazonV (6:08:48 PM): Frodo with Nazgul
TurgonjustTurgon (6:08:59 PM): Sauron with the Nazgûl
MaglorV (6:09:00 PM): The mirror of Galadriel
ErestorV (6:09:03 PM): Sauron with everything
ArPharazonV (6:09:11 PM): Nazgul with everything
ErestorV (6:09:17 PM): gollum with fish
TurgonjustTurgon (6:09:18 PM): Gandalf when he died
MaglorV (6:09:28 PM): lol, Eestor
MaglorV (6:09:34 PM): Erestor*
ArPharazonV (6:09:52 PM): and of course Frodo with everything
sidviscious01858 (6:09:53 PM): Faramir and Boromir with the ring
VardaValar1 (6:09:56 PM): Gandalf, Saruman, and Denethor
VardaValar1 (6:10:00 PM): Visions
ArPharazonV (6:10:03 PM): and the Ring with everything
(6:10:04 PM) Shaggyjoe has left the room.
TurgonjustTurgon (6:10:05 PM): Gandalf vs Theoden / Saruman
ErestorV (6:10:05 PM): farmer maggot with tresspassers
VardaValar1 (6:10:07 PM): Faramir's visions
VardaValar1 (6:10:19 PM): Foresight
VardaValar1 (6:10:26 PM): Prophecy
ErestorV (6:10:36 PM): all present at the meeting of Elrond
VardaValar1 (6:10:38 PM): Olorin sending visions, Lorien sending
visions
TurgonjustTurgon (6:10:39 PM): this specifically about LotR?
ArPharazonV (6:11:07 PM): if we start talking of Mandos's visions, this
could take a loooong time
ErestorV (6:11:20 PM): Bombadill with Goldbery
TurgonjustTurgon (6:11:35 PM): just want to say that in the first Era,
the Elves were far more adept at using mental powers
ArPharazonV (6:11:46 PM): long live the powers of the Fea!
TurgonjustTurgon (6:11:55 PM): like Luthien taking the guise of
Turingwethil
(6:12:02 PM) rhaated has entered the room.
ArathornValar (6:12:03 PM): afk for a bit...
ArPharazonV (6:12:09 PM): Aiyata
TurgonjustTurgon (6:12:16 PM): and somehow she could change into a
bat's form and fool the entire guard of Morgoth
VardaValar1 (6:12:18 PM): Welcome back : )
ErestorV (6:12:20 PM): Galadrial and Frodo
TurgonjustTurgon (6:12:34 PM): as well as Tuor taking the guise of
Draugluin
ArPharazonV (6:12:38 PM): yeah, she could fly, couldn't she?
TurgonjustTurgon (6:12:41 PM): and Beren sorry
TurgonjustTurgon (6:12:55 PM): not Tuor, but Beren
TurgonjustTurgon (6:13:23 PM): and then when those 2 got to
Morgoth's throne room, Luthien sang him to sleep
TurgonjustTurgon (6:13:38 PM): what better example of mental power
is there?
ArPharazonV (6:13:47 PM): until Beren hurt him with a knife-splinter...
good job man
VardaValar1 (6:13:53 PM): hehe
TurgonjustTurgon (6:14:00 PM): nah
VardaValar1 (6:14:02 PM): Beren was only supposed to take one
ErestorV (6:14:09 PM): how bout the Girdle of Melian
TurgonjustTurgon (6:14:09 PM): that just made Morgoth growl in his
sleep
TurgonjustTurgon (6:14:27 PM): he didn't wake until Beren and
Luthien were near the gates of Thangorodrim
ArPharazonV (6:14:29 PM): couldn't he just have taken the entire
crown with him? or was it that heavy?
sidviscious01858 (6:14:46 PM): It was iron
TurgonjustTurgon (6:14:47 PM): Morgoth's guise was like that of a
mountain
ErestorV (6:14:49 PM): the crown of a Valar would be weighty indeed
VardaValar1 (6:14:52 PM): Beren was allowed to take one. He tried to
overstep
TurgonjustTurgon (6:15:04 PM): there is a pic of Fingolfin vs Morgoth
somewhere on the site
MaglorV (6:15:12 PM): awsome pic
ErestorV (6:15:20 PM): aye and a good pic it is indeed
VardaValar1 (6:15:21 PM): I think it's on the bottom of the index
ArPharazonV (6:15:22 PM): so... morgoth wore a huge crown, and on
that crown there were 3 silmarils of a very small size
TurgonjustTurgon (6:15:23 PM): if you see that one, you know for
certain Beren could not have taken it :-)
sidviscious01858 (6:15:23 PM): And on the front of The lays of
beleriand
TurgonjustTurgon (6:15:37 PM): yes
ArPharazonV (6:15:44 PM): a bit out of proportion, I'd say
TurgonjustTurgon (6:15:49 PM): Morgoth always liked to think and act
big :-)
ErestorV (6:16:05 PM): and just think.... the light of the phil of Galadrial
holds that light still
sidviscious01858 (6:16:12 PM): Morgoth is twice the size of
Fingolfin
ErestorV (6:16:22 PM): size matters not
ErestorV (6:16:33 PM): sam was smaller than that nasty spider
sidviscious01858 (6:16:33 PM): It helps though
ArPharazonV (6:16:35 PM): twice? in that picture at least 3.5 times
ArPharazonV (6:16:42 PM): as big as Fingolfin
ErestorV (6:16:56 PM): aaaaaa the loss of Fingolfin....
ErestorV (6:17:01 PM): bows head
TurgonjustTurgon (6:17:05 PM): when you're a hobbit and get
squeezed to death by a troll falling dead upon you, you definitely think
size matters
ArPharazonV (6:17:16 PM): poor pippin
ErestorV (6:17:38 PM): mery was to small to be of notic to the naz.
ErestorV (6:17:42 PM): hehe
MaglorV (6:17:43 PM): anyone heard of Blind Guardian, they have a
very good song about the loss of Fingolfin
ArPharazonV (6:17:57 PM): never heard of it
TurgonjustTurgon (6:17:57 PM): or when you're as large as a troll and
have to squeeze through a hole a hobbit could scant get into
ErestorV (6:18:01 PM): nor i
TurgonjustTurgon (6:18:01 PM): size matters too
VardaValar1 (6:18:04 PM): Aye, may have a link to it
MaglorV (6:18:08 PM): Time Stands Still at the Iron Hill
Eonwe Valar (6:18:11 PM): I have that cd :}
MaglorV (6:18:17 PM): yeah, great cd
MaglorV (6:18:27 PM): Nightfall in Middle-Earth
TurgonjustTurgon (6:18:30 PM): dang europeans :-(
ArPharazonV (6:18:38 PM): :-)
Eonwe Valar (6:19:10 PM): you can find it in the US as well :}
MaglorV (6:19:16 PM): yeah, or Canada
VardaValar1 (6:19:47 PM): Turgon's England : )
Eonwe Valar (6:19:53 PM): but I am not so willing to call Luthien
singing Moroght to sleep a "mental power" :}
ErestorV (6:20:10 PM): what then would you call it?
ArPharazonV (6:20:16 PM): a magic spell
ArPharazonV (6:20:20 PM): enchanted robe
ErestorV (6:20:23 PM): sicence
VardaValar1 (6:20:26 PM): Songs were a special type
Eonwe Valar (6:20:32 PM): It's related to her inherited Maiaric/Elven
spiritual power
VardaValar1 (6:20:39 PM): Finrod vs Sauron
VardaValar1 (6:20:48 PM): Creation of Arda
TurgonjustTurgon (6:20:52 PM): then why did Finrod have the same
power of Song?
TurgonjustTurgon (6:21:07 PM): although not as powerful as Luthien's
of course :-)
ArPharazonV (6:21:09 PM): just a mentally very powerful elf
ErestorV (6:21:13 PM): Galadrial did not understand the the meaning of
Magic or was confused by it
Eonwe Valar (6:21:34 PM): Finrod was also an Elf :}
VardaValar1 (6:21:40 PM): Human term of magic seemed to her to
mean the deceits of the Enemy
ArPharazonV (6:21:47 PM): Finrod was one of the mentally most gifted
'normal' elves
TurgonjustTurgon (6:22:10 PM): well, if an ability is innate to a people,
and other people don't possess that ability, the first one with the
ability would think it as normal, while the second without that ability
could very well regard that as magic
Eonwe Valar (6:22:32 PM): mental powers mostly focus on the ability
not to physically do anything. SInging involves a vocal act and
therefore is not really mental,.. Pippin or Aragorn facing Suaron in
the palantir is however a mental act
VardaValar1 (6:22:33 PM): Might have been a semantics problem
VardaValar1 (6:22:45 PM): Aye, Eonwe
VardaValar1 (6:23:06 PM): although they did hold a palantir doing it
ArPharazonV (6:23:12 PM): hobbits didn't use magic, just enough to be
able to disappear quickly when the Big People come stamping by
VardaValar1 (6:23:26 PM): Quiet and small, aye
ErestorV (6:23:37 PM): the everyday and ordinary kind of magic
Eonwe Valar (6:24:06 PM): touchë :} but the act of holding is not
required, only the looking into, but everything after that is done by
the user's mind
TurgonjustTurgon (6:24:19 PM): in the Sword of Truth series it is said
that a child being born is magic itself
VardaValar1 (6:24:39 PM): We're on Tolkien though : )
ArPharazonV (6:24:42 PM): is Death some sort of magic as well?
ErestorV (6:24:48 PM): could the mirror of Galadiral be a kind of
palantir?
TurgonjustTurgon (6:24:54 PM): same could apply to Tolkien though
ErestorV (6:25:10 PM): after all she lived durring the time when Feanor
made them
TurgonjustTurgon (6:25:17 PM): why do we always think that magic
has to be something mysterious and elusive
TurgonjustTurgon (6:25:25 PM): something that we ourselves cannot
do?
ErestorV (6:25:34 PM): because then it wouldn't be magic.
ArPharazonV (6:25:38 PM): what can we do that we still call magic?
VardaValar1 (6:25:39 PM): It doesn't have to be mysterious or elusive,
just trying to stick to Tolkien
VardaValar1 (6:25:49 PM): cell phones!
TurgonjustTurgon (6:25:50 PM): what if true magic isn't what we
cannot do, but what we can do?
ArPharazonV (6:26:08 PM): then the concept of magic is globally
misunderstood
ErestorV (6:26:15 PM): spoken like a true Vala
TurgonjustTurgon (6:26:22 PM): perhaps the most magically concept
ever is free will
VardaValar1 (6:27:24 PM): Free will, a magical gift from Eru : )
VardaValar1 (6:27:31 PM): The Flame Imperishable
TurgonjustTurgon (6:27:35 PM): for example on the magic thing in the
history of earth:
VardaValar1 (6:27:36 PM): Life
ArPharazonV (6:27:41 PM): Everything Eru did could be called magic
ErestorV (6:27:53 PM): except by Eru
ArPharazonV (6:27:57 PM): yet to him it probably seemed/seems
normal
Eonwe Valar (6:27:58 PM): or miraculous :}
TurgonjustTurgon (6:27:59 PM): the Inca's referred to the Spanish
rifles as "magic fire sticks"
ErestorV (6:28:21 PM): now magic fire sticks mean something all
together differant.
ArPharazonV (6:28:34 PM): Gandalf's fireworks!
TurgonjustTurgon (6:28:36 PM): Magic as we know and describe is
simply that which we do not know or understand
TurgonjustTurgon (6:28:59 PM): the same thing Tolkien uses in his
works
TurgonjustTurgon (6:29:20 PM): as is best described when Frodo
asked Galadriel about her mirror as "magic" and she was confused
ArPharazonV (6:29:21 PM): what do I know of alchemy? not much, yet
I do not call it magic
ErestorV (6:29:31 PM): right
TurgonjustTurgon (6:29:51 PM): there is a difference between the
unknown and the accepted unknown
TurgonjustTurgon (6:30:05 PM): we know alchemy exists, and we
know most of it effects
TurgonjustTurgon (6:30:12 PM): even though we ourselves don't
VardaValar1 (6:30:25 PM): I know a practicing alchemist
TurgonjustTurgon (6:30:29 PM): but there are others who do and who
have passed part of their knowledge onto us
ErestorV (6:30:34 PM): wow
ErestorV (6:30:47 PM): what does an alchemist do?
ArPharazonV (6:30:51 PM): alchemy
TurgonjustTurgon (6:30:53 PM): others tell us what they know and we
accept those things if we consider them truthfull
TurgonjustTurgon (6:31:10 PM): once we accept such things, it no
longer is magic
VardaValar1 (6:31:11 PM): and if they go along with what we can
confirm in other way
TurgonjustTurgon (6:31:34 PM): in the middle-ages, alchemists were
often thought off as mages
VardaValar1 (6:31:35 PM): Everyone has his own definition of magic : )
That one is good too
VardaValar1 (6:31:44 PM): So were blacksmiths
TurgonjustTurgon (6:32:00 PM): yes, well, blacksmiths is another thing
:-)
TurgonjustTurgon (6:32:15 PM): same as barbers :-)
ArPharazonV (6:32:15 PM): If I saw someone shoot a fireball out of his
hand and I believed it to be the truth, I'd still call it magic
TurgonjustTurgon (6:32:25 PM): the looks they create are sometimes
simply magical!
TurgonjustTurgon (6:32:54 PM): you have to look at it in the context of
the words Pharazon
ArPharazonV (6:32:59 PM): :-) sorry
TurgonjustTurgon (6:33:13 PM): alchemy everyone can do, if studies
enough
TurgonjustTurgon (6:33:31 PM): shooting a fireball out of one's hand is
altogether another thing, for no one knows how to do that
ArPharazonV (6:33:41 PM): except the one who can
TurgonjustTurgon (6:34:18 PM): perhaps once someone learns how to
and passes it on, and we all start shooting fireballs out of our hands,
we won't call it magic anymore, but the way it is
ArPharazonV (6:34:30 PM): that's true
Eonwe Valar (6:34:39 PM): pyrokenesis? :}
TurgonjustTurgon (6:34:41 PM): I should say that this "acceptance" of
facts generally takes a generation or 2
TurgonjustTurgon (6:34:56 PM): something is easier accepted by a
younger generation
ArPharazonV (6:35:05 PM): who do not know better
TurgonjustTurgon (6:35:07 PM): and while the elder generation would
still call something magic
TurgonjustTurgon (6:35:16 PM): the younger might call the elder
outdated
ErestorV (6:36:01 PM): i find this a very magical conversation. but all
good things must come to an end and so must my time here tonight
with you wonderful people. Untill next time.
ErestorV (6:36:03 PM): Namarie
ArPharazonV (6:36:05 PM): Namarie
TurgonjustTurgon (6:36:08 PM): just like our elderly could think of
computers and us talking to each other from so many different parts
of the world as huge magic
VardaValar1 (6:36:11 PM): Namarie
TurgonjustTurgon (6:36:18 PM): Namarie
(6:36:26 PM) ErestorV has left the room.
Eonwe Valar (6:36:46 PM): I would say magic is essentially what the
Nazgul did before they became undead slaves... So that they could
weild supernatural powers not natural to their fea, they swore fealty
to Sauron and paid the price.
TurgonjustTurgon (6:37:04 PM): perhaps
TurgonjustTurgon (6:37:20 PM): but what is not natural could be taught
Eonwe Valar (6:37:37 PM): I think elders would just call it progress, or
technology, and say we're losing something by not writing letters (an
almost lost art :})
TurgonjustTurgon (6:37:40 PM): and such an adaptation would be
called evolution
TurgonjustTurgon (6:37:52 PM): I still can write letters :-)
TurgonjustTurgon (6:38:00 PM): just not regularly do
ArPharazonV (6:38:08 PM): that's it! shooting fireballs is a form of
evolution!
TurgonjustTurgon (6:38:13 PM): my letters take 2 weeks to arrive
anyways :-)
Elrohir16 (6:38:18 PM): and I am back!
ArPharazonV (6:38:19 PM): we're just not there yet
ArPharazonV (6:38:24 PM): Aiyata
TurgonjustTurgon (6:38:28 PM): what else would you call it Pharazon?
ArPharazonV (6:38:50 PM): magic ;-)
TurgonjustTurgon (6:39:07 PM): would you call us magical if you were
a neanderthall and saw us making light with a switch?
ArPharazonV (6:39:24 PM): I would not know the word 'magic', I think
Elrohir16 (6:39:30 PM): no, neanderthall's would bow down and call us
deities
TurgonjustTurgon (6:39:31 PM): bah
TurgonjustTurgon (6:39:39 PM): contextual doh
ArPharazonV (6:39:48 PM): yes, I would worship you, I think
TurgonjustTurgon (6:39:48 PM): what do deities do?
Elrohir16 (6:39:54 PM): miracle
TurgonjustTurgon (6:39:55 PM): magical stuff
Elrohir16 (6:39:55 PM): s
Eonwe Valar (6:40:07 PM): well, not really :}
TurgonjustTurgon (6:40:11 PM): miracles nearly is the same as magic
Eonwe Valar (6:40:16 PM): we get into god-powers there :}
ArPharazonV (6:40:20 PM): deities watch and interfere
(6:40:23 PM) TheodenValar has left the room.
Elrohir16 (6:40:23 PM): except magic is considered unnatural
Elrohir16 (6:40:27 PM): miracles aren't
TurgonjustTurgon (6:40:42 PM): what is natural about miracles when
caused by a deity?
(6:40:44 PM) VardaValar1 has left the room.
ArPharazonV (6:40:49 PM): miracles are often seen to have an
unnatural source
Elrohir16 (6:40:50 PM): I didn't say they were natural
Elrohir16 (6:40:52 PM): just not UNnatural
TurgonjustTurgon (6:40:56 PM): they are still unnatural to those who
the miracles are bestowed upon
Elrohir16 (6:41:04 PM): not by those who worship the deity anywways
Eonwe Valar (6:41:12 PM): supernatural is not the same as unnatural
TurgonjustTurgon (6:41:25 PM): then why call them miracles if they are
semi-natural?
Eonwe Valar (6:41:35 PM): not semi-natural, supernatural :}
Elrohir16 (6:41:40 PM): they're not SEMI-natural either... I think
Eonwe has the perfect term there
Eonwe Valar (6:41:40 PM): super=above the norm
TurgonjustTurgon (6:41:49 PM): supernatural = unnatural
ArPharazonV (6:41:50 PM): we don't know how to perform them, and
we know of none who can teach us
Elrohir16 (6:41:51 PM): they're NATURAL things, just enhanced
Elrohir16 (6:41:56 PM): they're not unnatural though
TurgonjustTurgon (6:42:06 PM): the Nazgul obtained SUPER natural
powers
TurgonjustTurgon (6:42:14 PM): and yet THEY are called UNnatural?
Elrohir16 (6:42:20 PM): no, they obtained UNnatural powers, I'd say
TurgonjustTurgon (6:42:21 PM): that's having a double standard
TurgonjustTurgon (6:42:32 PM): why unnatural?
Elrohir16 (6:42:35 PM): the ability to cause fear in a person by merely
being NEAR is not natural
ArPharazonV (6:42:44 PM): increased life is supernatural, eternal life is
unnatural
Eonwe Valar (6:42:46 PM): the Nazgul being wraiths is unnatural as it
defies the natural process of existence for their being, which is to
leave middle-earth
TurgonjustTurgon (6:42:51 PM): the only thing the power enhanced
was their ability to lead and their physical prowess
TurgonjustTurgon (6:43:09 PM): they being wraiths was a side effect
Elrohir16 (6:43:13 PM): no actually
Elrohir16 (6:43:18 PM): it was the actual intent of the power
TurgonjustTurgon (6:43:21 PM): but the original power bestowed upon
them was not
Elrohir16 (6:43:23 PM): they just didn't know that
TurgonjustTurgon (6:43:29 PM): ok, granted
Elrohir16 (6:43:38 PM): the enhancements were the side-effects
TurgonjustTurgon (6:43:40 PM): but to the nazgul it was a side effect
TurgonjustTurgon (6:43:52 PM): point of view is everything in matters
such as these
TurgonjustTurgon (6:44:05 PM): someone's point of view = truth
Elrohir16 (6:44:09 PM): no
Eonwe Valar (6:44:09 PM): well, I would argue it was a side-effect,
whether known and planned by Suaron while unexpected to the
Elves, or a pleasant surprise to Sauron, I don't think it was built in
anarion TV (6:44:12 PM): sorry ive been quiet. homework tends to
keep me pretty busy :S namarie peoples of Middle Earth (and
beyond)
ArPharazonV (6:44:14 PM): intent to one could be side-effect to
another
Elrohir16 (6:44:31 PM): I think Sauron's original intent was to destroy
the will and 'life' of the people given the rings
ArPharazonV (6:44:57 PM): Namarie
Elrohir16 (6:45:03 PM): it jsut didn't quite work out that way with the
other races because they were stronger in 'heart' than the race of
Men
(6:45:16 PM) anarion TV has left the room.
TurgonjustTurgon (6:45:25 PM): it is most likely that through the One
Ring, the wraith thing was imparted upon the Nine
Elrohir16 (6:45:41 PM): personally, I'd say that Sauron accomplished
closest to his original intent, whatever that was, with the Nine
(6:45:54 PM) sidviscious01858 has left the room.
Eonwe Valar (6:46:04 PM): I believe it's a part of the nature of the
Great Rings, because of the nature of their makers
TurgonjustTurgon (6:46:22 PM): then the question is why bind the Nine
to the One if they were to fall under his will anyways?
Elrohir16 (6:46:39 PM): just in case someone resisted
Elrohir16 (6:46:58 PM): and also, the Nine weren't designed to make
their will HIS
Elrohir16 (6:47:02 PM): only to destroy their free wil
Elrohir16 (6:47:03 PM): l
Eonwe Valar (6:47:13 PM): you mean his will theirs?
Elrohir16 (6:47:16 PM): binding them to the one ensured that only HIS
wishes werre followed
ArPharazonV (6:47:18 PM): question: why did the nine rings get
destroyed when the one ring went into the lava?
TurgonjustTurgon (6:47:41 PM): because they were bound to it
Elrohir16 (6:47:45 PM): because Sauron had actually physically tied
those rings TO the One ring...
TurgonjustTurgon (6:47:57 PM): the same as the Elven Rings lost their
power when the One was destroyed
Elrohir16 (6:47:59 PM): well, not physically...
Eonwe Valar (6:48:04 PM): whether or not they were physically
destroyed, their power was, just as the 3 Rings lost their power
Elrohir16 (6:48:07 PM): but he'd tied them AFTER creation
Elrohir16 (6:48:12 PM): I'd say they would've been
Elrohir16 (6:48:19 PM): just like those of the 7 that he had in his power
Elrohir16 (6:48:58 PM): the reason the 3 survived, even though without
power, is because Sauron could never get his hands on them at any
point to bond them to his will and to the One
TurgonjustTurgon (6:49:09 PM): the Nine were not destroyed, but they
were Wraiths through the power of their Rings, so the Nazgul would
be destroyed with the loss of the power at the destruction of the
One
Eonwe Valar (6:49:16 PM): the three were essentialy bound to his will
:}
Elrohir16 (6:49:18 PM): we don't know whether they were or not
TurgonjustTurgon (6:49:24 PM): they were
Elrohir16 (6:49:37 PM): referring to the Nine being destroyed with that
last statement
ArPharazonV (6:49:38 PM): so the nine rings are still out there
somewhere?
TurgonjustTurgon (6:49:42 PM): the elves did not use the Three as
long as Sauron had the One on his finger
Eonwe Valar (6:49:43 PM): Azh nazgh durbatuluk, Ash nazg gimbatul,..
Eonwe Valar (6:50:19 PM): they've probably been swallowed by the
earth and melted down by now
TurgonjustTurgon (6:50:20 PM): yes, the Nine are still out there, but
they are just the same as any ordinary gold ring
TurgonjustTurgon (6:50:32 PM): true Eonwe
Eonwe Valar (6:50:53 PM): so if you find a small chunk of gold don't
put it on your finger :}
TurgonjustTurgon (6:51:00 PM): but if some were to survive and find
their way to some travelling merchant or end up as plunder for
someone
ArPharazonV (6:51:01 PM): or they melted when they dropped in
Mordor when the Nazgul flew to the mountain
TurgonjustTurgon (6:51:11 PM): they would hold no more power than
any other ring
Eonwe Valar (6:51:21 PM): maybe less :}
TurgonjustTurgon (6:51:22 PM): not likely
Elrohir16 (6:51:30 PM): While the One ring did have POWER over the
Three...they weren't BONDED to his will I don't think
TurgonjustTurgon (6:51:31 PM): maybe less Eonwe :-)
TurgonjustTurgon (6:51:34 PM): oh btw
ArPharazonV (6:51:38 PM): only one remained, the one dropped when
the Witch King died
Elrohir16 (6:51:44 PM): otherwise he would've been able to do things
about them whether he had the One or not
TurgonjustTurgon (6:51:48 PM): does anyone here know about the
value of the Middle Earth TCG?
Elrohir16 (6:52:04 PM): TCG?
ArPharazonV (6:52:10 PM): trade card game?
TurgonjustTurgon (6:52:10 PM): Trading Card Game
Eonwe Valar (6:52:15 PM): no, but I have a box for it :}
Eonwe Valar (6:52:27 PM): the old one, not the new LotR one
TurgonjustTurgon (6:52:40 PM): ok
ArPharazonV (6:52:46 PM): is that the one with the nine nazgul names?
TurgonjustTurgon (6:52:48 PM): since I came across some cards lately
:-)
TurgonjustTurgon (6:52:54 PM): the old one
Eonwe Valar (6:52:55 PM): yes
TurgonjustTurgon (6:52:58 PM): limited version
TurgonjustTurgon (6:53:02 PM): black bordered
Eonwe Valar (6:53:14 PM): I've got "the dragons" booster box :} Tried
to get "the Wizards" one,.. never opened it of course :}
Eonwe Valar (6:53:33 PM): hmm that might belong to "the Wizards"
then,.. I'd keep them closed :}
TurgonjustTurgon (6:53:34 PM): want to know some of the cards I
got?
(6:53:52 PM) VardaValar1 has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar (6:53:56 PM): wb :}

TurgonjustTurgon (6:56:17 PM): Dwarven Ring of Thrar's tribe
TurgonjustTurgon (6:56:35 PM): Cards of Middle-Earth TCG I came
across a few weeks ago
VardaValar1 (6:56:49 PM): the new one, not Iron Crown?
Eonwe Valar (6:56:50 PM): the old one where the Nazgul names are
from :}
VardaValar1 (6:56:54 PM): ah ok
TurgonjustTurgon (6:57:05 PM): I got those for a mere 30 US bucks
or so (25 euro's)
VardaValar1 (6:57:08 PM): That's Iron Crown Enterprises, aka ICE
TurgonjustTurgon (6:57:21 PM): when the guy selling them said 25, I
nearly fainted lol
TurgonjustTurgon (6:57:49 PM): signed by 1995 Tolkien enterprises
TurgonjustTurgon (6:58:30 PM): and they being black bordered means
they be worth a whole lot
MaglorV (6:58:42 PM): Well, as riveting as this discussion is, I have to
go, namarie all.
ArPharazonV (6:58:45 PM): Namarie
VardaValar1 (6:58:46 PM): Namarie
TurgonjustTurgon (6:58:48 PM): prolly Aragorn and Boromir be worth
more than what I paid :-)
VardaValar1 (6:58:51 PM): Sounds like we're done
TurgonjustTurgon (6:58:53 PM): Namarie Maglor
