TurgonjustTurgon: that IS why :-)
TurgonjustTurgon: at least, it was before I had to go offline for 3 friggin months because of a dead comp :-(

VardaValar1: See any others online?
VardaValar1: We're everywhere : )
ArPharazonV: orodreth is online
GaldorV: Where do you live steve ?
STEvilaim: Raymond, but i'm about an hour south of there right now
ArPharazonV: who's gonna invite him?
STEvilaim: (alberta)
GaldorV: chicago
VardaValar1: I invited Orodreth
ArPharazonV: ok
Eonwe Valar: so did I :}
STEvilaim: aragan85@hotmail.com is his email addy
VardaValar1: He's thoroughly invited then :-)
Elrohir16: I live in Manitoba... ie. best place in the world to live :-)
STEvilaim: heh
VardaValar1: Tulkas just came onto Bnet
Elrohir16: especially Winnipeg
VardaValar1: Check friend lists there too
TurgonjustTurgon: apart from Ravenswood WV, no comments on that here :-)
STEvilaim: farthest easy i've been is regina I think
anarion TV: i have an exam tomorrow :-(
Eonwe Valar: could be worse :}
VardaValar1: Tulkas is trying to reach us
Eonwe Valar: cool :}
VardaValar1: Elatan on
ElatanValar has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya! : )
ElatanValar: Heyas
TurgonjustTurgon: Aiya
ArPharazonV: Aiya
Eonwe Valar: Heya Elatan :}
Elrohir16: hiya :-)
ElatanValar: Sorry I am late and gotta go right away too :-( but wanted to say Hello first
STEvilaim: 'lo
VardaValar1: Thanks for dropping by !
Elrohir16: have a great night! take care! :-)
ArPharazonV: Namarie!
GaldorV: Nam
VardaValar1: Anyone know Tulkas's AIM name?
ArPharazonV: what does Namarie literally mean anyway?
VardaValar1: Farewell
STEvilaim: yeah, that
Eonwe Valar: Hello mellon and thanks for coming by :}
TurgonjustTurgon: although in the movies it is pronounced as Namarië
ArPharazonV: isn't farewell technically speaking goodbye forever?
TurgonjustTurgon: no
Elrohir16: no, it's saying fare well
ElatanValar: Nighty night all, take care Valar
TurgonjustTurgon: fare well is more like "goede reis"
VardaValar1: Fare, as in how you do or travel
ArPharazonV: ah yes... of course
VardaValar1: Good night!
Elrohir16: it's wishing someone well until you see them
Elrohir16: next
VardaValar1: Lost Tulkas
ArPharazonV: the dutch word, vaarwel, is something I originally learned as forever
ElatanValar has left the room.
Elrohir16: I was thinking something while discussing the Scouring of the Shire with a friend of mine yesterday at work
VardaValar1: Something for Tolkien discussion? Cool
Elrohir16: aye :-)
VardaValar1: That's at least two already : )
VardaValar1: I'm going to need a helper to try to work with astaldo
Elrohir16: hehe, this one is probably going to fairly quick, but it's just something I was curious about whether anyone else saw lol...
just gotta wait for the discussion :-)
TurgonjustTurgon: for?
VardaValar1: He disappeared on me, was in B.net, trying to find his way here. Comp probs
VardaValar1: Then we'll start the business meeting, also should be quick : )
VardaValar1: Membership:
Eonwe Valar: if he appears in Clan Vala I'll see what I can do ;}
VardaValar1: We had the inactivity sweep
VardaValar1: Thanks, Eonwe!
VardaValar1: We dropped from around 156 to 116
Elrohir16: so about the same as last year?
VardaValar1: That's a lot of active members to have, 116
VardaValar1: We'll probably have a similar number of rejoins : :-)
Elrohir16: hehe :-)
Elrohir16: aye :-)
VardaValar1: At least we get updated info that way
Elrohir16: definitely :-)
VardaValar1: Now that the sweep is done, we will be changing the pass soon
VardaValar1: Make sure your email is updated, as that is how we give it out
TurgonjustTurgon: might I ask who is making up the pass?
VardaValar1: It goes to games, banks, message boards, anything we need a guild pass for
VardaValar1: Council always does it
Eonwe Valar: the COuncil :}
Eonwe Valar: Council even :}
VardaValar1: Council of Mahanaxar
TurgonjustTurgon: just asking because I thought of a pass already lol
VardaValar1: We meet by email, only way to handle time zone
Elrohir16: Aye, they're always the ones... even us lesser Maiar aren't trusted with that special job :-)
VardaValar1: Then we don't want it, too quick to think of : )
VardaValar1: But you can all make suggestions
TurgonjustTurgon: heh
TurgonjustTurgon: no one knows the word except me
VardaValar1: Email them in, we toss it around and see what happens
TurgonjustTurgon: I invented it myself :-)
VardaValar1: Be sure your emails are correct on the Member page
TurgonjustTurgon: although the translation from Quenya won't be correct :-)
VardaValar1: If not, email either Elatan or me or both (best way)
VardaValar1: Turgon, feel free to email your suggestion for Council discussion
TurgonjustTurgon: I will :-)
VardaValar1: And anyone else who would like to
TurgonjustTurgon: too much of a "other man's business poker" to let this go quietly :-)
VardaValar1: Web News:
VardaValar1: Peace, Turgon : )
VardaValar1: The meeting transcript is overwritten each time we have a new meeting and a transcript is saved
VardaValar1: A summary is kept on the News, but not the whole transcript
TurgonjustTurgon: *wags tail, lies down and purrs contentedly* :-P
VardaValar1: So if you want to read one, need to do it before the next meetings
VardaValar1: D2X Ladder page
VardaValar1: Please be sure to update now and then, even if just to say no change
TurgonjustTurgon: can't we put up meeting transcripts on page?
VardaValar1: Hardcore ladder is now coming along
VardaValar1: I do that for a while, they are very long
VardaValar1: Why?
TurgonjustTurgon: might come in handy
VardaValar1: The transcript has its own page, linked to the News
TurgonjustTurgon: ah
ArathornValar: could zip them up ..
VardaValar1: A summary is made for later, as they are very long and jumbled
Elrohir16: aye
TurgonjustTurgon: didn't know that, which was going to be my next suggestion :-)
VardaValar1: Try checking out the News page, gives you an idea
STEvilaim: its all text, wont take up much in actual disk size arathorn
TurgonjustTurgon: I try to check it about 2-3 times a day, but even I miss something at time
anarion TV: Sorry to interrupt but i'd probably best get an early(ish) night so I can be up bright and early to scrawl illegibly about
Bolshevik economic policy for an hour!
TurgonjustTurgon: +s
VardaValar1: It just seems unnecessary
VardaValar1: Good night, Anarion!
Elrohir16: gnight anarion :-)
anarion TV: Namarie
STEvilaim: bye
ArPharazonV: Farewell
anarion TV has left the room.
VardaValar1: Then you know all the News you can stand, Turgon ; )
Elrohir16: lol
VardaValar1: Any further Web news, o weavers?
TurgonjustTurgon: some sort of
VardaValar1: Tulkas says his AIM name is astaldov, I can't seem to reach him
VardaValar1: He's on Bnet
TurgonjustTurgon: I am working at reviving my online AD&D game, and looking for players again.
STEvilaim: Turgon - IRC based?
TurgonjustTurgon: this time it's gonna be fundamentally different than before, with changes posted on my site asap
TurgonjustTurgon: MSN based
ArPharazonV: explain...
TurgonjustTurgon: last time it seemed most of us had MSN
Elrohir16: AIM would be better
TurgonjustTurgon: so we picked MSN for our messenger
Elrohir16: for one simple reason
*OnlineHost*: Elrohir16 rolled 5 20-sided dice: 5 8 9 14 19
TurgonjustTurgon: yeah yeah :-)
Elrohir16: since everyone's getting AIM
TurgonjustTurgon: we will figure that once it get's finalized again
STEvilaim: irc is best, but getting people onto each IM/server is kind of annoying..
Elrohir16: I don't trust IRC
STEvilaim: whats not to trust?
Elrohir16: it's too unstable and too easy to send viruses over
TurgonjustTurgon: with due reason
TurgonjustTurgon: IRC is known for it's back doors
Elrohir16: If you don't have a firewall you can get viruses WITHOUT any confirmation message
Elrohir16: I know, it happened to me
STEvilaim: who did you make mad?
Elrohir16: nobody
VardaValar1: We now have AIM for meetings, so we are all available there, less to have to make names for, etc
STEvilaim: I've been on IRC and never had that happen..
Elrohir16: I logged in once a week to talk to a few people I knew
STEvilaim: anyways, better be quiet.. news 8-)
Elrohir16: ya
Elrohir16: sry
VardaValar1: We also have our AIM names listed, more convenient
TurgonjustTurgon: anyways
TurgonjustTurgon: details are not up yet
TurgonjustTurgon: and it is yet remained to be seen if I can keep internet due to my financial situation
TurgonjustTurgon: but I will be reporting that asap as well
VardaValar1: Eonwe and Tulkas are in channel Valar, trying to handle problem
VardaValar1: Any further web news?
TurgonjustTurgon: aye
TurgonjustTurgon: the Message Board
VardaValar1: Go ahead
*OnlineHost*: GaldorV rolled 5 75-sided dice: 10 73 48 37 45
TurgonjustTurgon: just wanted to point out that only a few months into existence it's a huge succes :-)
TurgonjustTurgon: with 43 members, we've amounted to over 700 posts already :-)
VardaValar1: Anyone not signed up for it needs to do so
TurgonjustTurgon: doesn't need to, but it would be appreciated
ArathornValar: 300 are mine
VardaValar1: Huge help, especially if you can't reach Bnet
VardaValar1: hehe
TurgonjustTurgon: besides, you can find a LOT of info there
Elrohir16: aye
TurgonjustTurgon: discussions, gaming stuff
ArPharazonV: 1 is mine, I think..
TurgonjustTurgon: and you can always ask for help from one of the admins if you're stuck
TurgonjustTurgon: just PM and you'll be helped asap
STEvilaim: just a note on the web stuff - A forum could be created in the forums called news and with some
formatting would work as a good news page allowing for updating without having to format an entire HTML page
every time
Eonwe Valar: We're trying to make the Message Board a place where we all can meet and chat across games, so yes, if you
haven't signed up you need to :}
Eonwe Valar: News is Varda's domain :}
STEvilaim: yes, but would make it easier
TurgonjustTurgon: not only games, but it's also intended to bring all members together, both gaming and Tolkien only members
ArathornValar: have a Q about the forum actually..
VardaValar1: Tulkas now downloading AIM
TurgonjustTurgon: go ahead :-)
VardaValar1: Go ahead, Arathorn
TurgonjustTurgon: me and Eonwe both present :-)
TurgonjustTurgon: we be the leading sages on the board :-)
ArathornValar: Is ther a way to tag a message area just like you do a specific message....
ArathornValar: so that you get emailed if anything is added>
TurgonjustTurgon: I think there is
VardaValar1: I just add the latest news and upload, no particular effort to it
TurgonjustTurgon: let me check
STEvilaim: turn on email replies, its usually a check box at the bottom of your reply window thing
ArathornValar: but that's only for specific threads, STEvil
TurgonjustTurgon: you want a whole area tagged....
GaldorV: I know D2.net has that ( I've amassed 1500+ posts there alraedy..) just over 70 in our forums
STEvilaim: subscribe to forum
ArathornValar: I'd like to tag a certain area.. like say D2x
TurgonjustTurgon: I'll post that in the proboards admin help area
GaldorV: good ides
GaldorV: *idea
STEvilaim: i'll get a screenshot
ArathornValar: Maybe you can subscribe to the area?
ArathornValar: Because there are some areas that don't interest me and others that do
VardaValar1: I scroll down, heh
TurgonjustTurgon: well, as much as I am an expert on the Board, there are still some things I don't know yet
STEvilaim: some forums support specific area "Subscription"
wolverinepcrew has entered the room.
TurgonjustTurgon: so I'll have to ask for help in the proboards support forums
Elrohir16: hullo
wolverinepcrew: hey hey
ArathornValar: yeah, but why have to go into every area if there are no new messages... lot easier to be
notified
Eonwe Valar: subcription as in you can't post in other parts of the board?
STEvilaim: no
Eonwe Valar: that would defeat the purpose of having a Valar Guild Message Board
Eonwe Valar: ok
Good Times695 has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya!
STEvilaim: subscription as in you will be notified if htere is a new thread or post in the D2X section for example
Eonwe Valar: don't have to go into every area
STEvilaim: It doesnt look like proboards does that to me, im digging around on it now..
Eonwe Valar: there's a most recent post section on the far right
Eonwe Valar: if it doesn't say today's date, just pass it by :}
VardaValar1: One at the bottom too
Eonwe Valar: I mean for the specific boards,.. give the date of the last post to that board
STEvilaim: yeah, that works but is finicky if there are a lot of people posting in an area and you dont want to have to
check every thread for new stuff
Good Times695 has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: if I understand it, you would have to do that anyway if it's only notifying you of a post to a particular board
Eonwe Valar: with the thread post you are notified for the particular thread of interest
STEvilaim: it usually lists what thread and gives a direct link.. usually.
ArathornValar: Still, being notified reminds you, in case, i dunno, you had a head injury or ate too much salty
food and were absent minded...
STEvilaim: heh
Eonwe Valar: :}
VardaValar1: Easy enough to scroll to the section you want and check just that
GaldorV: lol
VardaValar1: Are we all set on forum news now?
Eonwe Valar: It can be looked into, but don't think proboards offers notification of posts to an entire category
VardaValar1: Since it's quiet, I assume done : )
VardaValar1: Games News:
VardaValar1: Turgon just said he's planning on restarting D&D
VardaValar1: What version?
STEvilaim has left the room.
TurgonjustTurgon: unknown
STEvilaim has entered the room.
STEvilaim: darn internet..
TurgonjustTurgon: I'm going to base it on what I know of AD&D and adapt it to what I think is ok to do
Elrohir16: I see
ArPharazonV: what is AD&D?
VardaValar1: Welcome back
TurgonjustTurgon: so basically I'm gonna have an AD&D spinoff
VardaValar1: Very old version of Dungeons and Dragons
Elrohir16: Advanced Dungeons and Dragons
TurgonjustTurgon: Advanced Dungeons and Dragons
Elrohir16: it's second edition
VardaValar1: 3.5 is latest I know of
Elrohir16: aye
ArPharazonV: ah, thank you
TurgonjustTurgon: nad yes, it's going to be most like 2nd edition
Elrohir16: Second edition is the best though :-)
TurgonjustTurgon: but
VardaValar1: okie dokie, that should let people know if they want to contact you about it
TurgonjustTurgon: the major drawback is going to be for most of the guild members is that the gaming time is going to be adapted
to European time
TurgonjustTurgon: so it's going to be either friday afternoon or saturday afternoon
VardaValar1: Good luck
ArPharazonV: good news for me then ;-)
VardaValar1: Let me know if you decide anything for News page, and maybe it could go in the Forum when set
VardaValar1: Other Games news:
VardaValar1: D2X Ladder is moving right along
GaldorV: Go ladder!
VardaValar1: We have more on the hardcore ladder now
VardaValar1: Galdor is collecting runes, trying to make very high level while ladder allows
Elrohir16: I'm gonna dive back into d2x when they reset the ladder... but prolly not before then
VardaValar1: How goes that project, Galdor?
GaldorV: working...
VardaValar1: We have our own guild ladder, ignore the Blizzard one
GaldorV: well i need more runes i have several at 2 each
Elrohir16: not that, I want to restart when it's all fresh
VardaValar1: Dive into ours : )
Elrohir16: With EVERYTHING fresh :-)
VardaValar1: Ours is fresh, always starting new characters : )
Elrohir16: hehe
VardaValar1: Then you may have a long wait
Elrohir16: I know
Elrohir16: I can live with a wait
GaldorV: i also found the spire of lazarus staff for any sorc on ladder that wants it
AstaldoV has entered the room.
VardaValar1: We have ladder banks, regular banks
Elrohir16: I might be able to help you with the ladder hehe
VardaValar1: Aiya!
Elrohir16: ladder runing I mean
ArPharazonV: Aiya
AstaldoV: Yeah made it!!
Elrohir16: I have a number of runes if they're still around
Elrohir16: hey Tulk :-)
VardaValar1: Congratulations!
GaldorV: Hail
VardaValar1: In Gaming news now
Eonwe Valar: lookylooky :}
GaldorV: Nae Govannen!
VardaValar1: Any other gaming news?
GaldorV: * Mae=-O
STEvilaim: anyone play Gunbound?
GaldorV: I play Paintball...
VardaValar1: So jotted down : )
VardaValar1: Any further News?
AstaldoV: Are we all guild members here?
VardaValar1: Aye, we are :-)
Elrohir16: I do believe so :-)
VardaValar1: We have a few odd names, translations on our Quick AIM page
VardaValar1: or just ask!
GaldorV: hmmm...
ArPharazonV: good, cause I'm putting any new incomers in my buddy list :-)
GaldorV: ok who are STE & Astaldo ?
VardaValar1: Elrohir is really Gwaihir
ArathornValar: If I don't join anyone playing it's cause I'm still on my old pc... I die with anyone else in a
game <lag>
GaldorV: ok
VardaValar1: Astaldo is Tulkas
Elrohir16: aye, I be Gwaihir :-)
ArathornValar: d2x that is
GaldorV: Well met then
VardaValar1: Ste is Scatha
AstaldoV: Im new to this but not the guild:-D
GaldorV: Aiya all
STEvilaim: I am Scatha
TurgonjustTurgon: I be Turgon :-D
VardaValar1: Wolverine is Elladan
GaldorV: :-)
STEvilaim: little lagged too, at that
GaldorV: I be me
VardaValar1: Astaldo is Tulkas of the Council of Mahanaxar we just mentioned
AstaldoV: :-[
VardaValar1: Eonwe, Elatan, and I are too
VardaValar1: aww, cute blush!
Eonwe Valar: never saw a wrestler blush before :}
Elrohir16: hehe
VardaValar1: Hey, we have D2X guys in Clan Vala, and WC3 in Valar
Elrohir16: just gotta catch them at the wrong time :-)
VardaValar1: Backwards, we are
VardaValar1: Ready for Tolkien?
VardaValar1: Gwaihir gets to start us off : )
VardaValar1: *nudges Windlord*
Eonwe Valar: That's my cue I'm afraid :}
Elrohir16: heh
Elrohir16: lol
VardaValar1: awww
Elrohir16: What I was thinking...
VardaValar1: See you in the emails
Eonwe Valar: I must head out :}
Eonwe Valar: take care all :}
VardaValar1: Namarie, Meldo!
Elrohir16: did anybody else notice how similar the Ents are to Hobbits?
Elrohir16: Take care!
ArPharazonV: Namarie
VardaValar1: In what way?
Eonwe Valar: will do Tintallë :}
Elrohir16: they're both very strongly introverted races, both deadly when roused but hard to rouse.
Elrohir16: They're both generally unknown of by the world
Elrohir16: both are spoken of in legends of the Rohirrim
VardaValar1: World of Men?
Eonwe Valar has left the room.
ArPharazonV: and the world is generally unknown to them
Elrohir16: honestly, they're rarely thought of by most species
Elrohir16: outside their 'borders', neither concern themselves
Elrohir16: Ents borders are the forests they live within
Elrohir16: Hobbits are more established
Xseanzee disco has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Isolation did seem to be a common problem. Elves stayed mostly inside their borders too
ArPharazonV: Aiya
VardaValar1: Aiya Gil-galad!
Elrohir16: yes, but they knew a lot more about the world outside their borders
Elrohir16: than the Hobbits did
Xseanzee disco: Eol made lots of trips to Belegost
Xseanzee disco: :-)
Xseanzee disco: Aiya everyone
Elrohir16: and they did care about what happened without
TurgonjustTurgon: so did the ents, but that did not keep from being uninterested
AstaldoV: When riled though, the Ents rose as one body to challenge their foes, whereas the hobbits, with a few exceptions just
succumbed to Saruman.
STEvilaim: could be coincidence.
STEvilaim: Making a world, then populating it isnt an easy task.. 8-)
Elrohir16: no, the Ents needed to be roused
Elrohir16: and when they DID get roused
Elrohir16: by Merry
Elrohir16: and Pippin
ArPharazonV: hobbits needed to be roused too
Elrohir16: they fought back with wrath
Elrohir16: same with the Hobbits
TurgonjustTurgon: the Elves did not even leave their forests in the War of the Ring
VardaValar1: That little group of hobbits was the match for both groups, another similarity
Elrohir16: the Scouring of the Shire proves that
ArPharazonV: and they were, by the 4 most important hobbits of all time
TurgonjustTurgon: apart from some side-help, they didn't do much but keep Sauron's mind kinda busy
Elrohir16: the Hobbits DID play the last role in ridding Sauron's corruption though
VardaValar1: They had to defend their homes too
Elrohir16: or his main corruption
Xseanzee disco: Eol the Dark Elf, was very friendly witht he dwarves of Ered Luin, mostly Belegost, i remember reading a lot
about how he went there a lot
Elrohir16: the removal of Saruman
ArPharazonV: 3 hobbits together accomplished the destruction of the ring
Xseanzee disco: and learned much knowledge about masonry and steel works
TurgonjustTurgon: that was of before the 2nd age Xseanzee, we're talking about the 3rd now :-)
TurgonjustTurgon: Hobbits did not exist in the 1t
Xseanzee disco: o
TurgonjustTurgon: 1st*
TurgonjustTurgon: but you are right, there were Ents in the 1st
TurgonjustTurgon: and they were just the same as in the 3rd
TurgonjustTurgon: but for 1 minor exception
Xseanzee disco: i didnt know we were talking about the third
ArPharazonV: no entwives
VardaValar1: More broken up, the Brown Lands had happened
Elrohir16: aye, we're comparing Ents to Hobbits
TurgonjustTurgon: They came to the aid of Luthien and Beren without needing to be aroused
Elrohir16: at that point the Valar and Valier still acted a little more directly though
TurgonjustTurgon: but back then, the Ents were more numerous
Elrohir16: and I *believe* Yavanna still visited Middle Earth at that point
Elrohir16: so perhaps she HERSELF roused them
Elrohir16: that time
VardaValar1: Ents and hobbits both like to socialize about their own doings for a lonnnnng time
TurgonjustTurgon: if I remember correctly, there were only 3 "real" Ents in the WotR
Elrohir16: no, there were more
VardaValar1: Aye, more
Elrohir16: there were 3 of the ORIGINAL Ents left
TurgonjustTurgon: my bad :-)
Elrohir16: but there were many true Ents
TurgonjustTurgon: anyways
VardaValar1: Interesting to consider comparing ents and hobbits, maybe they aren't apples and oranges
Elrohir16: can somebody confirm whether Yavanna still occasionally ventured to Middle Earth during the War of the Jewels?
VardaValar1: phone - -pardon
Elrohir16: I thought she was one of the two that did... but... not sure
Xseanzee disco: I think the valar stayed in Valinor, cept Ulmo
Xseanzee disco: he was everywhere
Elrohir16: I *know* Orome still occasionally ventured out of Valinor
ArPharazonV: at that time still as well?
AstaldoV: Sorry, my wife isnt feeling well and since it took me an hour and a half just to finally get on this place, I need to go look
after her a little, I'll be on time next week, buggy puter willing, namarie all.
Xseanzee disco: the last i remember of Orome in ME was when he saw the first elves out of cuivienen
VardaValar1: Namarie
Elrohir16: alright, take care Tulkas
Elrohir16: and take care of HER
Elrohir16: hehe
Xseanzee disco: Bye
STEvilaim: bye
Elrohir16: :-)
AstaldoV: How do I whisper here or can I?
ArPharazonV: Namarie
Xseanzee disco: private IM
Elrohir16: right click on a person's name and open a private IM window with them
Xseanzee disco: double cvlick a name
Elrohir16: or double clicking works too
TurgonjustTurgon has left the room.
Elrohir16: Orome never abandoned Middle EArth, not completely at any point
TurgonjustTurgon has entered the room.
TurgonjustTurgon: sorry, comp got stuck
Xseanzee disco: Well, if you think about it, none of the valar abandoned ME
ArPharazonV: wb
TurgonjustTurgon: as I was going to say:
Elrohir16: for a while, the rest ACTED like they had though
Xseanzee disco: Well
VardaValar1: Aiyata
ArPharazonV: not until the removal of the Undying Lands from the Circles of the World
Elrohir16: I believe that Orome and Yavanna still did occasionally venture out there
Xseanzee disco: they all helped in suttle ways
TurgonjustTurgon: perhaps the Ents sticked more to the woods because of their numbers dwindling, while the Huorns needed to
be kept more in check, because of their congragation at one point
AstaldoV has left the room.
ArPharazonV: I think I hear Orome riding outside...
Elrohir16: Ents were never much for leaving the woods
wolverinepcrew has left the room.
Elrohir16: Pharazon, if your character had heard that
Elrohir16: he'd be scared to deatah
Elrohir16: lol
ArPharazonV: very far away
Xseanzee disco: I'm sure Manwe had influence on Thorondor and the eagles, while Ulmo helped with council through the water
Xseanzee disco: they may not have made actual apearances
TurgonjustTurgon: indeed, but they would more likely come to the borders of the forests to meet with the Elves and hear of the
tales of the world
Elrohir16: Well, of course, my people were in contact with Manwe :-)
TurgonjustTurgon: while in the 3rd age, they would do that less
Elrohir16: no they didn't go to the borders more often
Xseanzee disco: the Noldor werent on good terms with the Valar
Elrohir16: the Elves just didn't venture into their woods as often :-)
Xseanzee disco: how could they have kept in contactr
TurgonjustTurgon: same thing :-)
GaldorV: *reads over backlog* ... *goes back to work on cooking stew*
Elrohir16: but I still think that Yavanna may have been the reason that the Ents went to the aid of Beren and Luthien
Elrohir16: I think she directly acted there
Elrohir16: using her 'underlings' ,much like Manwe used the Eagles
Xseanzee disco: I don't remember the ents helping Beren and Luthien, when did that happen?
ArPharazonV: they helped slay the dwarves
VardaValar1 has left the room.
TurgonjustTurgon: after the dwarves hd killed Thingol and ransacked Menegroth
Elrohir16: they caught them as they were fleeing
Xseanzee disco: Oh
ArPharazonV: the specific reason the ents were created...
ArPharazonV: to counter-act the dwarves, created by Aule
Elrohir16: no... not counter-act the Dwarves only...
TurgonjustTurgon: then the Nauglamir with the Silmaril was given to Luthien, who was Thingol's only heir, and she passed it down
to Dior Eluchil, who passed it down to Elwing before he was killed and she to Earendil
Elrohir16: they were created to protect forests
ArPharazonV: they were created by Yavanna in direct response to the creation of the Dwarves
TurgonjustTurgon: against the dwarves ^^
Elrohir16: against all the Children
Elrohir16: and Eru
Xseanzee disco: Not necessarily against the dwarves
Xseanzee disco: exactly
Elrohir16: err
ArPharazonV: especially against the dwarves
Elrohir16: lol
Elrohir16: blech, tired :-)
Elrohir16: Eru's adopteD*
VardaValar1 has entered the room.
ArPharazonV: wb
VardaValar1: Thanks, crashed
VardaValar1: I hope someone else is making the transcript? : )
STEvilaim: I have it all if you want it
TurgonjustTurgon: crashed a bit ago as well
ArPharazonV: I could copy everything and email it, I was the first one in the channel
VardaValar1: Might save as we go, just in case?
VardaValar1: I had a topic, hoped could hear from everyone on
STEvilaim: I have most of it, that is.
ArPharazonV: so I've got every word since the opening of the channel today
VardaValar1: Maybe we could save it for another time
ArathornValar: heh saved a part just as you left
VardaValar1: Bless you both : )
ArathornValar: that's best then Pharazon
VardaValar1: Were you still working on the previous topic?
Elrohir16: sorta heh
Elrohir16: we've rather drifted :-)
Xseanzee disco: a little side tracked
TurgonjustTurgon: anyways, Gwaihir, as the Ents were created in protection of the forests against all the children of Iluvatar, it was
the creation of the dwarves that triggered Yavanna into making them
VardaValar1: I'll mention it, then you guys can think about it for the next time
Elrohir16: no, it was a convirsation with Manwe that triggered it lol
VardaValar1: Visions, foresight, prophecy, where they came from and how they affected the story line. For next meeting
TurgonjustTurgon: which was a driect result of the creation of the dwarves
ArPharazonV: how do you save?
ArPharazonV: oh allright
VardaValar1: Menu button at the top
VardaValar1: Sil, of Aule and Yavanna
Elrohir16: however Varda, can you confirm that Yavanna and Orome still occasionally ventured into Middle Earth up to and
including the War of the Jewels?
ArathornValar: default is html but you can sav as text too
ArPharazonV: then I'll save now, I will have everything, and the rest of the meeting is up to any of you
VardaValar1: I would have to dig to say so conclusively
ArathornValar: even if you save as html by mistake then you can save the html as text from any browser so..
no biggie
VardaValar1: The Valar did not forget Middle-earth
VardaValar1: How do you save as text?
ArathornValar: from a browser?
VardaValar1: The Valar had to keep a more or less hands-off policy until Earendil
VardaValar1: No
STEvilaim: can drag-select it all.
VardaValar1: Here
STEvilaim: then paste into notepad or something
ArathornValar: save as,
VardaValar1: It was required, but they kept an eye on things
ArathornValar: actually no...
STEvilaim: i'm using trillian, so my stuffs a bit different
ArathornValar: save, then change teh type to text
Xseanzee disco: Ulmo took more direct action
VardaValar1: Ulmo was acting "unofficially" but the other Valar were glad of it
ArathornValar: there's a 'save as type' drop down box at teh bottom of teh 'save' window

(Here ends the save by ArPharazon and begins the save by Scatha, who also had a good part of the above)

ArathornValar: just choose 'text only'
ArPharazonV: all right, got it to this point
VardaValar1: Maybe I need to update this old version
ArPharazonV: where should I send the file?
ArathornValar: well, I have to skedaddle all... Namarie!
TurgonjustTurgon: easier
ArPharazonV: Namarie
VardaValar1: Namarie!
Elrohir16: farewell
Xseanzee disco: Bye
VardaValar1: Email it to me
TurgonjustTurgon: view source
ArPharazonV: ok, I will
VardaValar1: varda@sbcglobal.net
VardaValar1: Thanks!
*** ArathornValar has left the chat.
TurgonjustTurgon: opens it automatically into wordpad or sumthin
*** TurgonjustTurgon has left the chat.
Xseanzee disco: I know Tulkas was the Vala of Strength and Might, but, did
he really do a whole lot to shape Arda?
VardaValar1: If you ever wonder where to send anything, send it to me as
your general contact, and I pass it on
Xseanzee disco: i dont recall too much on him
Elrohir16: most of what Tulkas did was help to keep Morgoth in check while
the OTHER Valar shaped Middle Earth, I think
VardaValar1: Tulkas bound Melkor, that changed history
VardaValar1: He also gave an attitude
VardaValar1: Laughing warrior, not cruel
Xseanzee disco: lol true, but iw as looking more ways of physically shaping
VardaValar1: There are many ways to shape
Xseanzee disco: like Aule made mountains, Ulmo Rivers and waters...
VardaValar1: Much is not told, also
Xseanzee disco: true
VardaValar1: Aule made the earth, but Yavanna made the life on it
Xseanzee disco: i was just wondering if Tulkas had any more specific role
*** TurgonjustTurgon has joined the chat.
TurgonjustTurgon: seems I pressed a wrong button :)
ArPharazonV: wb
VardaValar1: He came when help was needed, so that the sub-creation could
proceed
VardaValar1: Happens  : )
TurgonjustTurgon: who is he in the previous sentence?
VardaValar1: Tulkas
TurgonjustTurgon: aha :)
Xseanzee disco: I always thought it was funny how Melkor thought he was all
big and bad, and then Orome and Tulkas come walking down the street and
Melkor runs to Utumno
VardaValar1: Melkor had a physicality, the other Valar did not. Thus only
Melkor knew fear
VardaValar1: Irritation at having a hole poked in an item of "clothing"
maybe, but not fear
Xseanzee disco: Well, he had all of eternity to find a way of marring Arda
Xseanzee disco: so he couldn't fear too much
VardaValar1: He continued, even in the Void, to influence
Xseanzee disco: in what ways?
VardaValar1: But he was the only Vala to know fear
Xseanzee disco: Sauron still did his will, but thats the only way i can
think of.
VardaValar1: He reaches out with his influence, sends out his own thoughts
Elrohir16: I haven't yet read Morgoth's Ring, yet it's explained well in
there I've heard
Xseanzee disco: Morgoth's Ring?????
VardaValar1: In the Histories of Middle-earth
Elrohir16: book 9(?) of the History of Middle Earth
ArPharazonV: 10
VardaValar1: It is even said that Melkor's influence is in the very earth of
Arda
Xseanzee disco: hmmm
Elrohir16: 10, pardon
VardaValar1: I need to be leaving, unfortunately
Elrohir16: farewell Varda!
VardaValar1: Would also like sometime to discuss some words and phrases we
can use in role-play
ArPharazonV: yes, he spread his power and essence through the earth, and had
too few power left in himself to keep himself non-corporeal
VardaValar1: Check out the Languages Research, Irmo's
VardaValar1: Namarie
*** VardaValar1 has left the chat.
Xseanzee disco: I gotta get out of here too
Xseanzee disco: sorry all
ArPharazonV: Namarie
Xseanzee disco: Byue
*** Xseanzee disco has left the chat.
ArPharazonV: request for anyone from ArathornValar: there's a 'save as type'
drop down box at teh bottom of teh 'save' window to save the rest of the
file
GaldorV: Im out too, going imn game
GaldorV: Namarie all
ArPharazonV: Namarie
*** GaldorV has left the chat.
ArPharazonV: until that point I had saved everything, but I won't be saving
anymore, as I'll be leaving shortly
ArPharazonV: as far as I know, all of us have all from that point in the
window, except Turgon, since nobody went out of the channel
ArPharazonV: except Turgon
ArPharazonV: so... any interest?
stevilaim: I have from just before the irc conversation to here
stevilaim: ok, never mind
ArPharazonV: that's good, the first saved part, by me, lasts beyond that
point
stevilaim: I have the entire log
ArPharazonV: so if you would be the last one in the channel, and you save
everything, all is saved from the opening to the closing of the channel
ArPharazonV: for I was the first
