Tolkien-only Names:
    For a primary name used in articles and emails, pick any name not being used by another TV member, adding the TV guild mark at the end. (TV for Tolkien-only member of the Valar Guild). Thus: Durin-TV or DurinTV where a dash is not allowed.
    In AIM, you may use any name you already have, preferably clean, and let Varda know what it is so it can be put on the above table where others can add you. To be more recognizable, please make a screen name like your guild name, such as Arien TV

Forum / Message Board:
    The Forum , also sometimes called the Message Board, is designed partly to make sure you can join in. It includes Tolkien, other authors, and general chat that you can dive right into. Register whenever you're ready, and post away! Please use your guild name for your display name.

You can sign up on the Forum (also called Message Board or MB) without an invitation, no waiting! Eonwe-(Valar), an admin for the MB, suggests:

They can use a non-Tolkien login name (perhaps the name they are best known by) then leave it at that and the "Tolkien member" can be noted in the little text space we can use to describe ourselves (not the signature,.. different spot, under avatar/ranking) or they can put the ~ in front and use the Tolkien name they like. [Old message. We now use TV which works in all mediums. -Varda] I would prefer "straight" Tolkien names be used for full membership as we have been doing already.

AIM:
    Meeting time is 5pm EST, (GMT-5), for the all-guild meeting.
    The chat room name is currently: Valar Guild Meetingplace.
    AIM may be downloaded free.
    For AOL Instant Messenger (AIM), we found we can't sign up using names with ~ such as ~Gandalf, as we used for the Tolkien Encyclopedia credits. No space, no punctuation mark allowed. Something always has to mess up a system. :) You can use your usual non-Tolkien AIM screen name. You can use your ~ name as a screen name, if you add TV at the end, for Tolkien Valar. Ex: Gandalf-TV.
    The chat room can be put up at other times for fun, some to chat, some going back and forth between games, finding people to switch suits to their game, and some just to keep it open. Inside the chat room, your name can be made to display with punctuation and even spaces, such as ~Tar-Palantir. You can invite yourself into the chat, then click "No" when the dialogue box asks if you accept, then you will be in the chat room. It is case-sensitive.
