The Hunter's Way

by Hoegard Harfoot
August 27, 2010

At break of dawn they do start the day
Swift bow drawn they take their chosen prey
This is the hunter’s way

Natures passage in the silvered dew
Marking every twig and leaf askew
This is the hunter’s way

The strengthy stance and the focused aim
With concentration each shot they claim
This is the hunter’s way

Green and Golden is the leaf crowned wood
Where the snared trap is set as it should
This is the hunter’s way

Under nature’s guise do they prowl by
With trusted bow and predator's cry
This is the hunter's way

Camouflaged in day or dark of night
Beneath notice a stalker's delight
This is the hunter’s way

Find the path to desperate flight
A traveler’s guide by the campfire's light
This is the hunter’s way

The heart-seeking shot for one last try
Raining thorns can run the quiver dry
This is the hunter’s way

When prey like the dusky colors run
Every hunter knows their day is done
This is the hunter’s way

So it’s back to woodland lodge or camp
To unburden pack and dry the damp
This is the hunter’s way
