All stories below are by the talented Jay
of Lasgalen over a period of years. These all went online today,
although not all are yet properly placed on Jay's Author's Page and
Quick List where they will be placed among all the other stories in the
order they would have happened in Tolkien's Middle-earth. The drabbles
below are already in that order. A few more drabbles will be placed in
this list in black to aid in placement, with links put up on the days
they go online.
"Nine
Lives" 1 chapter. "A short, complete story. Pure fluff,
featuring the twins and adult Arwen (because I've put them through so
much angst lately!)"
Drabbles:
short stories of 100 words, and a few double drabbles of 200 words.
This is a highly disciplined story form very close to poetry in impact.
Quoted comments are directly from Jay, while others are the editor's
fault. The editor finally caught up with about half of Jay's drabbles
just in time as she made a new one July 24:
"The Music of the Ainur". The
Ainur create Arda with music. "Written for the Tolkien Weekly 'Music'
challenge. Based, of course, on The Silmarillion."
"Astronomy" Tuor discusses
astronomy with young Earendil. "For the ‘Astronomy’ challenge on
Tolkien Weekly"
"Battle Beneath the Trees II"
Thranduil leads one of his first battles. "Written for the Tolkien
Weekly 'Snow' challenge."

birthday, mellon nin! Daw, this is how hide and seek should be played!"
"Arwen's Birth Day" Elladan and
Elrohir at the celebration of their new sister's birth.
"Part of the HASA birthday
challenge, to write a drabble in 111 words in recognition of Frodo and
Bilbo’s birthdays. It had to include three of the following: a
bottle of wine, a birthday cake, fireworks, pipeweed and the number
111. Four out of five isn’t bad. When I remembered that a certain
pair of elven twins were 111 when their sister was born, the rest was
easy! "
"The Gift Horse" Elladan, Elrohir
and the gift horse.
"This one is for JastaElf’s
birthday – a little late, I’m afraid. Happy Birthday, Jasta!"
"Brotherly Love" Elladan
and Elrohir arrive for Arwen's birthday at Rivendell. "A HASA birthday
drabble for Forodwaith, who wanted Arwen with someone other than
Aragorn."
"Mid-Winter's Magic" Mid-Winter's
treats in Mirkwood.
"We Are Not the Same" Elladan and
Elrohir.
"Great Minds Think Alike"

Celebrian. "For the 'History of Violence' challenge on Tolkien Weekly."
"I Remember" A twin remembers
what happened to their mother, Celebrian.
"To See the Sea". Isengar Took
reaches the Sea. "For the ‘Life Aquatic’ challenge on Tolkien Weekly.
Isengar Took (Pippin’s great-uncle) is said to have ‘gone to sea’ in
his youth."
"Celebration" Thranduil's
folk celebrate.
"The Battle of Five Armies"
Overview.
"Laketown Romeo" A man in
Laketown makes a mistake. "This
was written for the Tolkien Weekly ‘Mistakes’ Challenge."
"The White Tree". "Remember when
Aragorn and Gandalf found the sapling of the White Tree?
I began to wonder just how it got there in the first place..."
"First Love" Estel (Aragorn)
tries to write a love letter and Elladan catches him.
"Love" Legolas tells Aragorn
about the relationship between Arwen and himself.
"Blame HASA for this
one. The Birthday Drabbles thread had three
requests for June - Legolas, Legolas/Aragorn friendship, no
slash. I
combined all three, and this is the result. The speaker is
Legolas."
"Glorfindel's Revenge".
Glorfindel confronts the horse-thief Arwen. "For Arandil, who wanted to
see Arwen get her come-uppance for horse theft!"
"Down in the Valley" Boromir
arrives in Rivendell. "A HASA birthday drabble, featuring Boromir and
music as requested. Italics are Tolkien's own words, of course."
"Important Business" Important
business as defined by a cat during the Council of Elrond.
"Why?" Thranduil learns that
Legolas is going with the Fellowship."Written for the Wrath
Challenge on Tolkien Weekly."
"Words". Legolas writes to
Thranduil about joining the Fellowship and Thranduil writes back.
"Written for the 'Words' challenge on Tolkien Weekly."
"Temptation". The One Ring tempts
Legolas. "Written for
a HASA Birthday challenge to show a member of the Fellowship tempted by
the Ring."
"Dark Elf". If Legolas had gone
to the side of Sauron... "Written for AU challenges on Tolkien Weekly
and HASA." (AU means "Alternate Universe")
"Hannon Le".
"A friendship drabble with
Legolas and Aragorn, written for Cassia and
Sio at the Mellon Chronicles, to say ‘thank you’ for a Christmas gift
they sent."
According to review notes
by Jay, this is all written from Legolas' point of view.
"For Rohan". The riders of Rohan
go out with Eomer, told by Arod's rider. Garulf is the rider of
Hasufel, the horse later used by Aragorn. "This one is for Elvenesse
(Kate) who requested the Rohirrim."
"The Longing" What Legolas really
wants.
"The Wood of Greenleaves". "From
Appendix B: ‘On the day of the New Year of the Elves, Celeborn
and Thranduil met in the midst of the forest, and they renamed Mirkwood
Eryn Lasgalen.’ (The Elves’ New Year was 6th April, I know.) Happy New
Year to you all! "
"Battle Beneath the Trees"
Reaction to a sight left after the battle in Mirkwood, probably
Thranduil's point of view.
"Scorched Earth" Thranduil
tries to repair Mirkwood after the burning of the final war with Dol
Guldur. "This is from Thranduil’s POV, and was written for the ‘Earth’
challenge at Tolkien Weekly."
"Aftermath". Thranduil's point of
view after the terrible battle to destroy Dol Guldur that has burned
much of Mirkwood.
"'Elvellon'" Legolas introduces
Gimli to Thranduil.
"The Houseless Ones". Legolas,
Gimli, and the houseless ones.
"The Politics of Gardening".
Elrond visits Sam at Bag End. This could have happened after Elrond no
longer had to guard Vilya and to visit Frodo. "A birthday drabble for
paranoidangel (Nic), who is a fellow Review
Admin at HASA. She requested Elrond and Sam, so I’ve pretended
that
Elrond visited the Hobbits at some point."
"Destiny" Elladan and Elrohir
consider the choice of the half-elven.
"I do not know the twins’
choice, but I tend to think that they chose immortality. Whatever
the
decision, I think they chose the same fate – I cannot imagine
them
being sundered as Elrond and Elros were. "
(V): According to the books, the twins
did not go with Elrond on the ship to Valinor as was required, but
remained together in lordship at Rivendell. Celeborn later came to stay
with them there before going on to Valinor himself, but it is not
recorded that the twins made any attempt to go with him or at any later
time. I tend to think they chose to remain on Middle-earth, but
apparently they did indeed refuse to be sundered.
"Choices" Elladan and Elrohir
don't go to Valinor on their father's ship.
"Leaving" Elladan and Elrohir
make their final choice whether to go to Aman or stay in Middle-earth.
"Time to Depart". Elladan and
Elrohir leave for Valinor.
"Arrival" Celebrian in Valinor
watches for those she has long-awaited.

and Siobhan. PG-13, 10 chapters.
A dark elf with a burning hatred
for men is
terrorizing the countryside around Rivendell. Unfortunately, that elf

designs become focused on Aragorn, everyone is in danger.

Return
by Cassia and Siobhan. Formatting completed, online. PG-13, 12
chapters.
"Sequel to Exile. Legolas and
Aragorn
venture into the Mines of Moria to
help Balin, only to get more than they bargained for. Meanwhile,
Mirkwood is falling into darkness. Her only hope ends up resting in the
hands of the two people she has scorned, and Legolas & Aragorn will
risk more than their lives to save her."
"Part of this story is slightly
un-canon because we
place the events of the dwarves’ attempted return to Moria some years
prior to when I think it would actually have happened if one tries to
follow a strict Tolkien time-line. For the sake of the story it could
not be helped. Please consider this a use of artistic license and do
not feel inclined to roast, boil or squash us into jelly over this
inaccuracy. :o) Thanks!"

The links should now be corrected for "The
Battle of the Crossing of Poros". A rascally letter "u" is now on
leash, we hope.
Link colors now match the rest of the Encyclopedia.
Headings for sections such as Titles,
Characters, and Authors now match other pages' centering and font size.
Nov. 5, 2004
To improve finding files, all new stories will
go into a special folder just for stories, no What's New lists, author
pages, title lists, character lists etc included, and groups of
chapters will have folders inside that if they didn't already. Older
stories will move into it over time, probably by author; this will take
a while as they have so many links and my time is limited, but it
will happen. When in the future you can't find a story at your old
bookmark, don't panic; check for it under it's cross-index to the
author, title, or characters. Nothing will be taken down at any time,
just moved.
Alasse's
stories are now moved, links on Nov 4 below changed.
The
Battle of the Crossing of Poros by Barahir-(V) has been moved,
links below changed. Chapter Six edited and all links changed on all
previous chapters.
