Second of the sons of Finarfin (Quenya. Artanáro).
Guardian at Tol Sirion, where he had to leave after the attack of Sauron. He succeeded Finrod to the throne of Nargothrond after his brother’s departure with Beren. His leadership was undermined by the works of Celegorm and Curufin, but he held the throne.
His daughter Finduilas was loved by Gwindor, but she fell in love with Turin Turambar. Orodreth afterwards left the organization of the defence of Nargothrond largely to Turin. When the warning of the coming onslaught was sent by Cirdan, Orodreth choose to listen to Turin instead of heeding the words of the Sealord, Ulmo. By Turin's brave foolhardiness the armies of Nargothrond were then defeated in the field of Tumhalad, where Orodreth then was slain.

Orodreth

Extended Family of Orodreth:
Brother of Finrod, Angrod, Aegnor, and Galadriel.
 Brother-in-Law to Celeborn.
 Father to Findulas.
 Son of Finarfin and Eärwen.
Grandson of Olwë, Finwë and Indis.
 Nephew to Fingolfin.
 Half-Nephew to Fëanor.
Cousin to Fingon, Turgon, and Aredhel.
Half-Cousin to Maedhros, Maglor, Celegorm, Caranthir, Curufin, Amrod, and Amras.
 Cousin-in-Law to Eol.
 Uncle to Celebrían.
 Uncle-in-Law to Elrond and Elros.

Orodreth was the second son of Finarfin. After Finrod finished the tower of Minas Tirth on Tol Sirion in the early first age, Orodreth was made warden until 457 F.A., when Sauron took it. Orodreth fled to Nargothrond, where he was recieved by his brother Finrod. Orodreth held little power though, because when Celegorm and Curufin came to Nargothrond in F.A. 455, they grew in influence. When Finrod left to help Beren, Orodreth was in effect a puppet King.

In F.A. 467 when Lúthien set free the captives and thralls from Tol Sirion, many came to Nargothrond and reported the fate of Finrod. The lies of the Sons of Fëanor were exposed, and Orodreth was returned to power. Many wished to slay them, but Orodreth stayed their hands, as killing them would bind the curse of Mandos more tightly upon them all.
