The mushrooms he grew were a great temptation to
other
hobbits, including Frodo in his boyhood..
He was another hobbit with an interest in adventure,
a
friend of Tom Bombadil's who nick-named him "Muddy Feet".
He aided bravely as a decoy in the Scouring of the
Shire.
