Elrond Half-Elven's wife was the beautiful Celebrian, daughter of Galadriel and Celeborn.  They were married in TA 109.
They had three children: twin sons Elladan, and Elrohir in TA 130, then 111 years later in TA 241, their daughter Arwen.
During the time the Kings had become the Ranger Chieftains, but 422 years before Aragorn II's birth, disaster struck Celebrian. In TA 2509 while she was traveling from her home in Rivendell to visit her parents in Lothlorien, Celebrian's party was ambushed by Orcs at the Redhorn Pass in the Misty Mountains. The Orcs had been massing in secret in the area in order to bar the passes of Eriador. This was their first attack, so no one was ready for it. Celebrian's escort was scattered. She was tormented and received a poisoned wound. Her sons, Elladan and Elrohir, rescued her. Elrond healed her body, but she lost her joy in living. For this reason, she went to the Grey Havens the next year in TA 2510, and sailed across the sea to the West.
