Aravir, son of Aranuir, was the fourth Chieftain of the Dunedain, and was chief at the time of The Watchful Peace.
It was he who made up the name "Aragorn", the name given to the King of the Reunited Kingdom. His own son, Aragorn I, was given the name.
Aragorn I succeeded his father as Chieftain.
