Amandil was the last Lord of Andunie and a Dunadan. His son was Elendil the Tall.

Amandil was the leader of the Faithful, and resisted the seductions of Sauron.

In the days of his youth he was good friends with Pharazon and, though being one of the Faithful, he remained in his counsel until the coming of Sauron. When Amandil heard of the plans to cut down the White Tree, Nimloth the Fair, he told his son, and the sons of his son. When Isildur, son of Elendil heard of this, he went into the courts of the King and stole a fruit of the Tree. He then delivered it to Amandil.

A few years after, Amandil, hearing of the plans to assail the Valar, told his followers he was going to follow in the footsteps of Earendil and sail to Valinor to beg for mercy. He then sailed off in a small ship at night, and was never heard from again. Elendil took up the leadership of the Faithful from then on.
