hard! I leave that all to Cassia, she is the expert
in that area. She's even been taking classes to get better at it

was really cool. Who knew you could actually get a job doing something

made, the sculpted skeletal heads of two Orcs who may have been victims
of his archery, the process of his making a bust of Aragorn, busts he
made of Arwen, adn two castles which don't look as if they were made of
paper but were.
More new art! See the Cave

These were first sent Dec. 13, 2005 in a format unreadable by the
webmaster. Then Turgon's internet connection and computer had woes. He
returned and sent the files as .jpg's, so Turgon has conquered all and
you may enjoy his work. The art will also be linked in the future as
illustrations for the Valar Guild's Tolkien Encyclopedia plus.
Feb. 20, 2006

Turgon-(TV)'s cave is now Turgon-(V),
as he has
become a Full Member. Congrats! His file names have also changed. He
has more art coming, but the current file is not readable by me, as it
is in a compressed .rar which I cannot open.
Everyone!
Please send files as jpg. I prefer them on separate emails but together
can be handled at need. If they must be compressed, please use WinZip
as I have that program.
Dec. 11, 2005

July 23, 2005
Vinicius is now the illustrious Dwalin-(TV).
File and link names have been changed and are now working.
July 21, 2005
Opening page/index: Trying to find the best links to
put in, plus arranging them in the most helpful way while retaining
aesthetics, if any.
Collected Orc heads for Ronnie Hansen's Cave. Tried
to locate if he had a special guild name in TV archives, need to check
Forum.
Trying to locate Arathorn's funnies. Two of our
current picture
servers changed to other uses with no warning.
The entire Valar and Varda
sections were wiped from Farmer Maggot's server. Dug through Forum and
emails, no success yet. Contacted him in-game about the problem in
case he still has any files.
July 20, 2005
Completed caves:
Menelvagor-(Valar)-ex, Tuvo-(V)-ex. Might put the sculptures on html,
as the paintings are, later on. Let's get the caves operational!
Started cave: Arathorn-(Valar)
Completed name figuring, except for Vinicius' Cave
since he hasn't picked a name yet.
Pictures loaded into all current cave areas except
Arathorn's, Book, TwoRings.
Uncaved: Book, TwoRings
Text files on
the valarguild.org server, images on
the game-host server. Links changing.
July 19, 2005
Building new front page, which goes on Alatar's
server.
The other parts are better served if they all sit on the same
server, using AuSteinM's.
Figuring out the current guild names of people who
have been listed for years in the caves.
Adding caves for old and new folk, some from this
week, as
the names straighten out.
Eowyn-(V) agreed to make a graphic for the
Glittering Caves title, to match the ones she did for the Valar
Guild index and Tolkien Encyclopedia.
Considered using frames, but they seem to distract
from the pictures. Sticking with Elatan's system for the most part.
Caverns being kept: Elatan-(Valar)'s many original
works, Menelvagor's are all original
Caves being made new: Arthorn-(Valar),
Elatan-(Valar), Eowyn-(V), Vinicius (became Dwalin-TV).
Caves being dropped: Ghan-buri-ghan-(V)'s (page was
named Turin) as it contained no original work, although some beautiful
links, and he is no longer active in the guild. Durin's, same comments.
As this art gallery is part of the Valar Guild
Tolkien Encyclopedia, we already have sections there for articles,
poetry, stories, book reviews, etc. They will have links to relevant
parts of this art page. Link backs to the articles may be provided from
the art's page.
July 18, 2005
Tried using Elatan's old set-up, but I don't have
the same software. Re-building, but still going with a number of
Elatan's great ideas, such as the name, the idea of caves, and the
thumbnails for each cave that lead to the full-sized versions. I have a
collection of pictures sent directly to me that never made it into the
original caves, since GeoCities could not let Elatan back in to work on
it after their merger with Yahoo.
top
July
17, 2005: AuSteinM, creator of DoorMan Bot, donated space for the
images. The starting page and text portion server space was donated by
Alatar-(Valar). Varda (me) tried out the new server and it's ftp and
was
pleased. It also has no ads!
Glittering Cave management passed from Amillo-(Valar) aka
Elatan-(Valar) to Varda-(Valar). The site now takes only original
work for that person's cave, and is therefore sure to give credit.
Contact information is also intended.
GeoCities, which hosted Amillo's Glittering Caves, merged with Yahoo
and, despite much
email, could not help Amillo reach the page anymore as they could not
recover the password. He was therefore
unable to put the proper credits on the page, or do anything else with
it. He has since become
very interested in making his own bows and other hobbies, with a little
World of WarCraft gaming.
Dec. 9, 1998: Amillo-(Valar) created the original Glittering Caves of
Aglarond
for Valar Guild members to post favorite links and original work on
GeoCities.
Already available due to over seven years of existence:
Server space: Alatar-(Valar) donated space heavily
used by the
various Valar Guild pages including the Tolkien Encyclopedia text,
Gaming pages, and guild business pages. Farmer Maggot-(V) has also
donated server space and very helpful programs that he made himself,
including channel greeter/info/botmail bots and bridges between our
meeting areas so that all can be heard and be heard at the same time
from AIM, IRC, SigmaChat, and Battle.net. He created a search program
for the Encyc, but it had problems, including requiring each article to
be entered into the program.
Forum: to discuss Tolkien, other authors, gaming,
business, to greet, to type our LotR
role-play text game, and to generally
chit-chat.
Meetings: every Sunday AIM meeting at 5pm EST for
business and then Tolkien chat, often breaking afterwards into gaming.
Gaming: where a lot of our discussions also occur.
Currently World of WarCraft is the most popular, with an official
branch in the Alliance, Lothar server, Americas run by Eonwe-(Valar)
and an unofficial
shadow guild on Argent Dawn, Europe in a more general guild run by
Menelvagor-(Valar).
