 I had a sketch of Legolas that I'd started a decade ago
(literally ) and it was
fantastically awful. In that version he looked like a constipated horse

(Pencils and gouache over acrylic, 21x29 cms) Until now I've avoided doing Tolkien's better-known characters (book versions I mean) because they've already been drawn so often and so well by such terrifyingly talented people. And of course with the films, those versions of the characters have become predominant. *However* just cos something's scary, doesn't mean it shouldn't be done, but (ugh) probably the opposite. My Legolas isn't as blond as the films, nor dark-haired either (despite the line about his 'dark head' being silhouetted against stars near the end of FotR); but rather I imagined a dark blond or even light brown, though I realise it's probably a different colour for every reader. :] The idea for this actually came a few weeks ago after the loss of one of my dearest friends, and possibly one of the nicest people I ever did / will know, and who loved Tolkien's even more than I do. The world is a bit of a bastard and it will take away the nice people, so go hug a friend today; and consider yourselves all super squeezy-hugged as well.
